Critics Consensus

A bittersweet farewell that's entirely too short, Vida's final season is as messy, beautiful, and inspirational as life itself.

Critic Reviews for Vida Season 3

The third season, while enjoyable, feels like a bookend on a story that wasn't ready to end. Even though it ends with a slightly forced button, "Vida" is never buttoned up.

What I love about Vida-the reason that I hope people will keep discovering it even after its deeply satisfying series finale-is how close it comes, especially in its second and third seasons, to capturing the rhythms of real, embodied life.

Vida's six-part farewell season also feels gangly, its ambitions outstripping its execution. I'm only being as hard on the show as I am because, for most of its run, it's been a triumph of personal vision and uncompromising complexity.

It was so fun to see Mari vlogging and organizing during the first two seasons. But, for me, there is something deeply powerful in seeing a fully chingona woman being a mature, empathetic, and sometimes shy advocate for change.

Vida succeeds where others fail not just because the characters are richly developed, and not just because its masterfully written, but because it is both - all the time.

To watch Vida in the age of Corona is to see a glimmer of hope in the horizon, a symbol of a queer nation still being imagined in spite of all the chaos around it.

Amongst all the other queer shows currently streaming, Vida shines the brightest.

The feelings we are left with in each episode, including the finale, are the same as those we've lived through in past seasons: love, sincerity, hope.

I'm sorry we won't get a fourth season to watch Emma and Lyn solidify Vida's vital place in the neighborhood; it feels like a miracle, though, that this little gem of a show even got the three seasons it did.

Vida reflects life in all of its messiness,..In the series we see both good and the bad, but more importantly, we see how we can grow, learn, and ultimately transform ourselves.

Season was way too short, and the final episode made it feel like a dropped telephone call. I hope it gets picked up at another network.

A very courageous series with complex people and relationships. The lesbian emphasis was a breath of fresh air.

Not my style! Kind of strange

I grew up in East L.A. and found an uncomfortable exaggeration of the characters. Too many long, graphic and gratuitous sex scenes that are not needed and seem to satisfy the motives of the writers and directors of this series. They certainly take away from the plot and integrity or the series. As a Latina, I am embarrassed at the Spanglish dialogue that some of their actors have a hard time pronouncing properly. Yes, you can mispronounce words in Spanglish. I liked the plot, but even the gay Latino characters are rediculous. How did the critics give this 100%? They must not have ever been to East L.A.

Vida artsy story telling continue with the familiar characters imperfections that you learn to accept it and enjoy the journey into a world you'll never be part of.

Absolutely amazing show, great writing and talented actors. The show just keeps getting so much better! Sad this is the last season
