It works best when it’s simply being funny. The heavy plotting around a mysterious supernatural something or other? Very, very mid, but you need something to propel the story forward enough to stretch it out for eight episodes.

Wednesday is a good show once you get over the "Addams Family in a Harry Potter-inspired setting" premise, though I guess it helps that the then-recent animated duology set a low bar to clear. There's soap opera crap mostly related to two potential boyfriends (Xavier sucks, no wonder Wednesday had an "if the shoe fits" mentality regarding him) and some nonsensical moments but what it does well it excels at. Jenna Ortega's performance is great and even elevates some of the weaker material, the mystery is compelling, Ortega and Emma Myers have great chemistry and it's always fun to see the Addams, ESPECIALLY Uncle Fester, without overshadowing Wednesday herself. An enjoyable series with witty dialogue and a fun story that can be commended for helping Tim Burton get his groove back after spending the 2010's creatively frustrated (though I didn’t find myself as quick to jump on the bandwagon as everybody else regarding "everything sucks except Frankenweenie").

Season 1 of this show was great! I loved the chemistry between Enid and Wednesday and the dark mystery is fun and exciting. Jenna Ortega does creepy so well.

I love Wednesday, and season 1 was great, fencing match between Bianca was a highlight and the story was really good, An amazing first season to an amazing tv show

I loved season 1 of this show and thought the acting was very strong. The chemistry between Wednesday and Enid is brilliant. It's visually pleasing and atmospheric. The central mystery is dark and intriguing and keeps being suspenseful throughout the season. It's great to see Christina Ricci in a cameo.
