Westworld isn't your typical amusement park. Intended for rich vacationers, the futuristic park -- which is looked after by robotic "hosts" -- allows its visitors to live out their fantasies through artificial consciousness. No matter how illicit the fantasy may be, there are no consequences for the park's guests, allowing for any wish to be indulged. "Westworld" is based on the 1973 Michael Crichton movie of the same name and features an all-star cast.

What to Know

Critics Consensus

Westworld's continued reliance on mystery will frustrate just as much as it intrigues, but this fourth season still offers plenty of gleaming and menacing insight into a brave new world.

The truth is that the plotting on “Westworld” can still be playfully enjoyable, and the ensemble is undeniably talented. It’s that playfulness that was lost in season three, but the fourth season has some wonderful reminders of this show’s potential. Go to Full Review

I have no idea what is going on, but now in the good, excited way that reminds me of seasons one and two rather than the listless, can’t-be-arsed way of season three. Which, I would say, is déjà vu to be welcomed. Fingers crossed. Go to Full Review

It’s an absolute smorgasbord of thespian delights. Even at its most opaque, Westworld has always been worth watching just for those performances. Go to Full Review

There are so many great reasons to watch Westworld Season 4, and while the tone and narrative are undoubtedly heavy the payback is well worth your investment in time. Go to Full Review

Season four of Westworld starts off with a pretty good first half that sets up several intriguing storylines, but unfortunately an abrupt shift brings the second half crashing down, decimating the show's pacing and plot development. Go to Full Review

Season 4 sports great visuals, a great soundtrack and its usual plethora of amazing actors. Unfortunately, it fails to deliver on the promises of Season 3 and ends on an unsatisfying note. A huge disappointment and missed opportunity. Go to Full Review

Bill K @BDKowalski Feb 18 To call the cast of Westworld "stellar" is to understate how brilliantly the cast carry their roles. However, like "Lost" did decades ago, Westworld created a fantastical tale without having an end, or even a solid story, in mind, at least not one which could carry four seasons. It is entirely possible to do it right: I will cite the sheer excellence of "Mr. Robot" as Exhibit A. Season 4 is a rather incomprehensible mess. Plenty of great "moments" but there’s not enough storyline stitching to hold them together. The fans stuck with it but the ratings have gradually declined with each successive season. That tells you something about how the HBO audience in general sees this show. I’d call myself a dedicated fan, and yet I struggled to make it to the final episode. TBH I didn’t. Now that HBO dumped it, I guess I’ll never get to see it. See more atlas s @ravenatlas Nov 15 My disappointment in this show is unmeasurable. See more Pranav R. @bassklipsound Oct 18 I was disappointed that the momentum did not keep up with this season. The finale felt like a good bye and teased an epic next instalment, but, the show was cancelled. Unfortunate, proof that an epic story cannot continue forever… See more Brian R Aug 4 Season 1 might be one of my favourite seasons in all of TV. Unfortunately, that was not the case for Season 4. In fact, I couldn't await for it to end. I'm even happier there's no season 5. Season 3 and 4 ruined the Series. It was way too convoluted and frustrating. I don't care to say any more. See more Sam C Apr 25 Late to the game with this one. I recently decided to rewatch the first two seasons of Westworld, only to discover there was a third and fourth season. After struggling somewhat through season three, I finally reached the conclusion of this plot-twist-fueled, consciousness-obsessed show—only for season four to end up being a disappointment. I dragged myself through the ordeal that was Westworld season four. What was I greeted by, you may ask? Convoluted storylines that amounted to little more than endless exposition, along with plot twists that had no substance or shock value, as they had already been explored in previous seasons. Now for the finale… What the hell was that? Why do that? That’s all I can say. In summary, I wasted way too much time on this show, only to be left disappointed and shocked that a series like this could fall so far. Side note—characters staring off into the distance does not add depth to a scene. Visuals and soundtrack were great, though. See more Jarred D 06/14/2024 I couldn't be bothered to finish this show. I got to the last episode, started watching it, looked at my wife and asked her "do we care?" she said "no" we turned it off and never came back to it. It was so bad, we got to the last episode and said "you know what, I've punished myself enough, lets go do literally anything else". See more Read all reviews
