Murphy's story, as told by the docuseries, still deeply resonates and entrances as we learn there are secrets about Monjack and her relationship that may still not have been discovered. Go to Full Review

The documentary itself is simply too little, too late to be of any consolation. Go to Full Review

Watching "What Happened, Brittany Murphy" does tell us something unintentionally. It looks at the legacy of complicity that still lives within Hollywood, and how the silence of women continues to be at their expense. Go to Full Review

Part of the cheapness of What Happened, Brittany Murphy? comes from the ways in which the opinions of the people who profited off gossiping about Murphy are given equal weight with those who seem to have genuinely loved her. Go to Full Review

Despite few tidbits of new information, What Happened, Brittany Murphy? mostly exploits the scandal, but without the glamorous mystique that commonly surrounds the deaths of young female actors. Go to Full Review

The mystery of what happened to Brittany Murphy is solved pretty early, but there are many roads in the documentary that don't mesh together Go to Full Review

s d 01/08/2023 This was initially advertised as a nuanced take on a Brittany Murphys story but it ended up being exploitative and tacky. And the fact that they'd even include a bottom feeder like Perez Hilton tells you something about the quality of this documentary. They could have at least blurred out his ugly face. See more 07/21/2022 I genuinely don't understand all the negative reviews. This documentary was made about as well as it could have been. Gripping, intelligent and insightful. RIP Brittany Murphy. See more Mister M 10/24/2021 This is an extensive insight into what ultimately amounted to a very sad and tragic demise of a promising and bright talent, who fell into the trap of putting her life and love into the full controlling hands of a manipulative sociopath. I think that despite the handful of very negative reviews, this documentary is in its own way a very realistic and loving treatment/remembrance of Murphy's life and abilities, cut all too short in a tragic, rapid decline. See more 10/19/2021 The best that can be said for this is that it made me remember a beautiful and special human with a unique effervescence and immense talent. Too often, this documentary dipped into the salacious, disrespectful, and exploitative. This could and should have been a more graceful, thoughtful portrait of a tragedy that befell a stunning star and sparkling soul. "What happened?" indeed. Just like in life, Brittany deserved so much better. See more 10/18/2021 A lot of good, in-depth coverage highlights Brittany's career along with the lowlights of Brittany's choices for her personal life. Tons of footage allows as close as possible to a firsthand look into Brittany's private life. Leading with her premature death gets the doom out of the way... we all knew that was coming, anyway. Alas, a sad end for someone who should have had a bright future. But, with a bit of irony, the story of someone who earned her fame with intense, shooting-star level talent is spoiled not by its many biopic tropes, but by peppering the story with the half-baked opinions of a Greek chorus of "influencers" who pontificate while testing out various make-up and skin care products. Who are these people, and what, if anything, qualifies them to issue their opinions on Brittany's marriage and the manner of Brittany's death? They're virtually zeroes outside of the shallow depths of some social media platform they seem to inhabit. I wouldn't trust their opinions on hair gel, much less on the complex interactions of a married celebrity couple. This would have been a vastly better doc had there not been so much vapid conjecture added as filler. See more Read all reviews
