This isn't a regular spy drama, Whiskey Cavalier insists at every turn, but a fun spy drama that refuses to take itself too seriously. Yes, it's cheesy, but it's hard to hold that against the show too much when it's also half the point.

Unlike NBC's new and deadly serious The Enemy Within, you likely won't find this one a chore or headache to watch.

Whiskey Cavalier knows what it is - which is a compliment, since many shows don't. And what it is is a good-looking action dramedy with good-looking people; it's aiming for a Mr. & Mrs. Smith sort of vibe.

"Whiskey Cavalier" isn't a particularly stiff drink... Still, if there's room for a light-hearted spy procedural right now, the show feels like a pretty top-shelf version of one

After "Enemy Within," "Whiskey Cavalier" looks giddily enjoyable, if no less prefab in action and exposition.

Whiskey Cavalier also calls back to flirty, frothy blends of screwball comedy and cases of the week.

If you don't take anything away from Whiskey Cavalier Season 1 Episode 1, you should take away the fact that the series is unapologetic, cheesy, lovable, fun.

There is nothing ground-breaking here. The series is pure popcorn, with lots of spy games and spy toys, pantomime villains, preposterous action sequences and nonsensical storylines. But that is part of the appeal.

Aside from Foley and Cohan's natural chemistry, everything in Whiskey Cavalier feels too neatly put together.
February 28, 2019
It all makes for a charming new addition to ABC's lineup and one of the network's most immediately entertaining new shows in recent memory.
February 28, 2019
Will I keep watching Whiskey Cavalier after this week? 100,000 percent.
February 28, 2019
The show has strong lead-ins in fellow ABC comedies, but is a comedy disguised as a one-hour drama.

Whiskey Cavalier is more concerned with giving audiences a good time than a gritty, overly-complicated one.
February 27, 2019
This is peak filler ABC, a not-so-serious drama that just wants to, like, have a good time and stuff.
February 27, 2019
Viewers have seen all these elements before, but in Whiskey Cavalier they're deployed in a fun, fast-moving way that the show and the charm of its leads is hard to resist.

While Whiskey Cavalier has a few interesting moments, it's hard to take most of it seriously.

Whiskey Cavalier could turn into a solid procedural for ABC, as both [Scott] Foley and [Lauren] Cohan have enough charm to see it through its weaker moments.

Whiskey Cavalier can occasionally get by on the charms of its cast (Scott Foley, Lauren Cohan, Ana Ortiz, Tyler James Williams, Josh Hopkins), but the show continues to step all over the characters.
February 25, 2019
There's plenty of cause for a grin in Whiskey, as long as you put your mind on hold.
February 25, 2019
Yes, it's an outrageously silly take on the spy genre, but it's very self-aware, absolutely entertaining and funny.
February 25, 2019
Lots of people take bullets in the bobo... at the hands of incredibly telegenic people. That makes the violence plucky and entertaining, almost charming. Sexy, even.
February 25, 2019
I'm happy to overlook whatever is lacking or obvious or oversold or simplistic in its construction for the sake of the adventure, the scenery and the fun gang dynamics.
February 25, 2019
Whiskey Cavalier may not take you back to 1985, but it comes closer than some of the recent stabs at this genre.
February 25, 2019
I hope Whiskey Cavalier pulls it off. There's room for silly, fun stories on TV that are actually silly and fun, even if they feel comfortably familiar.
