Critics Consensus

Expanding on the saga while leaving plenty of room for callbacks to the original, this series-length sequel should satisfy fans who've been patiently waiting for more Willow.

The Disney+ Willow series was a breath of fresh air, harkening back to a bygone era of onscreen epic fantasy more focused on being delightful than profound. Go to Full Review

Sustained interest, however, will be stymied by a cast of largely bland new characters and, more pressing still, a dearth of sweeping excitement. Go to Full Review

It’s a fantasy series full of action, love, friendship, and beautiful landscapes. Like its predecessor, it doesn’t take itself too seriously, which helps balance the humor with the seriousness of the story. Go to Full Review

The series knows its capacity for greatness. It’s tapping into it that proves most difficult. In turn, its lessons, some carried over from the past, feel more timeless than ever. Go to Full Review

There is a kind of simplicity, a sense of comfort, and an air of whimsy to the show that puts it right in the middle of the Shakespearean self-seriousness of The Rings of Power and the edgy self-seriousness of House of the Dragon. Go to Full Review

See more Em C @RT91192180 Apr 30, 2026 Unwatchable. So extremely suburban USA that it is ridiculous. Unrealistic in represent anything "other" whatsoever, or anything of value... From 'writing to lighting' it was flat. See more David N. @Danab1970 Feb 7, 2026 A very underrated show. I wasn’t expecting to like it. Actually it was far better than the movie, but very much in the spirit of it. I’m still puzzled why we can’t watch it. It had the making of a cult classic. See more H v @RT27036555 Jan 4, 2026 Unbelievable bad in so many ways See more Jonathan T @JJBlade Jul 27, 2025 Horrible! Horrible music. Horrible acting. Horrible writing. Horrible dialogue. Great special effects. See more Hughe J @Hughe Jul 20, 2025 Willow was released on streaming in 2022 and ran for one season before it was not only cancelled but also completely removed from the Disney streaming service. Warwick Davis reprises his role As Willow, he played the same character in the 1988 theatrical release, but he is not the star of the show. This show is about the diverse, angsty, twenty something cast that meander about making snarky and very modern sounding comments while doing very little. Gone is the charm and fun of the original movie as every male is weak or evil and every female is a strong girl boss. The acting across the board is just awful as many times it feels like the cast is reading their lines for the first time in a rehearsal. The choreography is bad, the costumes are silly, and the writing is a war crime. I don't know who this show was intended for but clearly that group wasn't interested, and neither was I - this was just a really bad series. See more Read all reviews
