In this reality competition, contestants try to navigate an extreme obstacle course that has been designed to provoke an unprecedented number of crashes, face plants and wipeouts, with one competitor taking home a $50,000 prize each week. We're guessing you're not going to see this show among next year's crop of Humanitas Prize nominees. Hosts John Anderson and John Henson call the play-by-play while a sideline reporter interviews contestants on the course, as well as getting a word or two from the winner at the end of the show.

"Wipeout" comes closer than almost any other show to justifying the comment made decades ago by former FCC commissioner Newton Minow in which he described TV as "a vast wasteland." Go to Full Review

I can't see ever wanting or needing to watch it again; I'm hopeful (but not optimistic) that the novelty will wear off quickly. Go to Full Review
Brian Lowry Variety 10/05/2019
The exercise has a nasty, repetitive tone, frequently touting the show as one where "people risk bodily harm so you can point and laugh." Go to Full Review

Wipeout highlights the extremes to which some people will go to win money, even if it means getting humiliated in the process. Go to Full Review

It is sublimely moronic, an Al Pacino Hoo-HA of crap. Go to Full Review
