What to Know

Critics Consensus

Yahya Abdul-Mateen II is Wonder Man, turning in a sly performance alongside an equally wonderful Ben Kingsley in this low-stakes superhero fare that boasts high-hearted personal drama as its winning factor.

Audience Says

Wonder Man finds alchemy in its leading men, who deliver a refreshingly human story with greater emotional power than straight up kicks -- and it’s all the stronger for it.

A satire about struggling actors and the ludicrous Hollywood inequality they’re trying to get around doesn’t sound like a particularly original idea, but when you plug it into the dour world of Marvel superheroes it’s actually a welcome change of pace. Go to Full Review

The actors’ chemistry and undeniable bromance is a great reason to watch, but this is also an entertaining and low-stakes story that doesn’t require mass MCU viewing or knowledge to fully enjoy. Go to Full Review

It’s a different kind of Marvel epic. Special effects take a backseat to laughs as Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and Sir Ben Kingsley spoof egomaniac actors who learn it’s better to stop chasing fame and be in it for the love of the game. Go to Full Review

This is more about an insecure loner with a chip on his shoulder discovering the benefits of opening up and being vulnerable. It’s about finding a friend and remembering what it means to trust someone implicitly no matter the consequences. Go to Full Review

This is a case of: I think this is good, I absolutely appreciate it existing at all, but it's not really for me... But I do think this is a positive thing both in and of itself and for the MCU overall. Go to Full Review

The chemistry between the two actors carries you along. They’re my second-favorite odd couple right now, after Dunk and Egg on HBO Max’s A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. Go to Full Review

Aaron K @RT46268319 6d I was deeply skeptical about this one based on the premise and the trailers (not to mention the long string of Marvel series misses). My main thought was: why and who is this for? Well, how wrong I was. Turns out this show was for me. It's up there with "Loki" as the best directed, written, and acted Marvel show. More of this in the Marvel world please. See more Jonathan L @RT76401142 6d I was honestly surprised by this one! Loved it from start to finish, the phenomenal chemistry between Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and Ben Kingsley was the heart of a grounded story about two unlikely friends as they change each other for the better. One just happens to be super. Can't recommend this highly enough. See more Donn A @RT58687407 Apr 3 strong leads. would have love more superpower sceans or other hero cameos but top writing on a couple of episodes See more Brandon C @officialbrandoncollins Apr 2 Wonder Man (2026) is the best MCU project to happen in years. I was genuinely surprised here and had to keep reminding myself that I was watching a Disney+ MCU show. You know, the same streaming platform/company that gave us "hits" like, She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, Moon Knight and Secret Invasion. But this show was freakin' good. This felt nothing like anything in the MCU. It didn't play on jokes, it was actually serious and entertaining. I'm not gonna say that this was my favorite MCU project to ever come out, but out of the Disney+ shows, I'd place it above them all. I highly recommend this show. You might be just as surprised as I was. See more Brett M @Brett42 Apr 2 If you enjoy face-paced superhero shows with a lot of action, this is not the show for you. *Spoilers* The storyline consists of a struggling actor Simon Williams (Abdul-Mateen), who befriends the delightful Trevor Slattery (Kingsley). The actors are trying to get a role in the new Wonder Man movie, while Slattery is secretly spying on Simon for the Department of Damage Control. The storyline is original, but it starts off very slow. It is really uneventful for the first few episodes. There is really no action besides Simon's outbursts indicating his power. It starts to pick up around episode 4. Overall, the show is entertaining and a little inspiring, but it is a show that I would not rewatch. With that said, there were some positive attributes. The acting was fantastic. The special effects were on point. Slattery and Simon are fun to watch, and Slattery is humorous. I also enjoyed Slattery's redemption arc. However, as a die-hard Marvel fan, I was disappointed. See more Read all reviews
