What to Know

Critics Consensus

Yahya Abdul-Mateen II is Wonder Man, turning in a sly performance alongside an equally wonderful Ben Kingsley in this low-stakes superhero fare that boasts high-hearted personal drama as its winning factor.

Audience Says

Wonder Man finds alchemy in its leading men, who deliver a refreshingly human story with greater emotional power than straight up kicks -- and it’s all the stronger for it.

A satire about struggling actors and the ludicrous Hollywood inequality they’re trying to get around doesn’t sound like a particularly original idea, but when you plug it into the dour world of Marvel superheroes it’s actually a welcome change of pace. Go to Full Review

The actors’ chemistry and undeniable bromance is a great reason to watch, but this is also an entertaining and low-stakes story that doesn’t require mass MCU viewing or knowledge to fully enjoy. Go to Full Review

It’s a different kind of Marvel epic. Special effects take a backseat to laughs as Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and Sir Ben Kingsley spoof egomaniac actors who learn it’s better to stop chasing fame and be in it for the love of the game. Go to Full Review

‘Wonder Man’ is wonderful not because of his superpowers, but in the friends he meets along the way. Yahya and Ben Kingsley are Marvel Studios’ new dynamic duo, and you will have fun watching them navigate the trials of Hollywood together. Go to Full Review

Defying all self-imposed rules, Wonder Man is a genre series that puts superheroes in the background. A buddy comedy through and through. [Full review in Spanish] Go to Full Review

It's indefinitely delayed gratification, de-escalation, anti-climax. And you've got to get with that program if you're going to enjoy it. I mostly did. Go to Full Review

Derek G. @DWreck 4h Incredibly well done; a show everyone would enjoy. See more Johann D. M @Johann33 7h BRILLIANT AND ENJOYABLE!!!! A clever, charming, and unexpectedly moving entry in the MCU that is truly heartfelt and refreshing. The chemistry between the leads is electric, turning their bromance into something genuinely touching. Beneath the superhero gloss, it tells a grounded story about a so called normal man chasing artistic validation in the glittering, unforgiving circus of Hollywood. The humor lands beautifully, especially in scenes involving Joe Pantoliano, and the Doorman episode is a true standout, bold and inventive. Yet beyond the laughs and surprises, the show works because it stands confidently on its own. It does not depend on previous MCU entries to resonate, and its pacing keeps things engaging from start to finish. Sir Ben Kingsley is a delight, showcasing impeccable comedic timing. The finale delivers a satisfying surprise and leaves the door wide open for more. See more Nicholas R 19h Superbly written and acted covering topics like acting and whether it's an important thing. The fact that so many audience reviews miss the entire point of this show is saddening and indicative of why this genre is suffering. If you do the same stuff, they complain, if you change it, they complain. See more Danica D @leavemealone296 1d So boring Tried my best See more B S @Bill55555 1d Summary: A superhero show involving a superhero who doesn't do anything superhero-ish until the very end of the 8th and final episode. This show effectively was little more than a squishy emotional soap opera about neurotic actors, including the main character, which is why the leftist Tomato people allegedly love it. It's 7 3/4 episodes of the hero's backstory, which was WAYYYY too much. I appreciate the writers' desire to develop the main character's persona before launching into superpowers, but this was all appetizer and no entree. It was a monumental departure from standard Marvel programming, and it was not for me. That Marvel even allowed this show to happen is very disconcerting. See more Joe E. @Joseph594 2d Extremely entertaining! Plus, the show has a great mix of action and comedy. Nice to have an enjoyable show from Marvel back on Disney+. See more Read all reviews
