Critic Reviews for You're the Worst Season 4

All Critics (15) | Top Critics (6)

The caustically hilarious You're the Worst has always been a rom-com that zigged when others zagged, a show that mines loads of good humor from bad behavior.

It's a perfect pace for a series that's starting over.

Both Gretchen and Jimmy hurt each other like no other, and the series is one of the most emotional comedies on television.

Oct 10, 2018 | Rating: 3.5/4 | Full Review…

You're the Worst ends season four on a tender note, with a closing scene that makes all seem back on track for Gretchen and Jimmy.

Aug 29, 2018 | Full Review…

It's resulted in half-hours of television that are daring and singular, where nothing else on TV is able to hit such comedic ridiculousness in the same breath as human insights.

With an excellent team of writers helmed by the show's creator, each season could stand alone as a snapshot of the antics of a group of connected people who bounce back and forth from being each other's best friends to their worst enemies.

You're the Worst's hour-long season premiere [is a] a brilliant, brazen, funny, devastating tour de force.

Sep 8, 2017 | Rating: 9/10 | Full Review…

The early episodes of season four show promise. It seems some reckoning is on the way, but it could also signal the beginning of the end.

It's the little things that make it work.

You're the Worst is one of the best case studies in the sadcom, and it has leaned harder and harder into its dark side as the years have gone by.

Sep 11, 2017 | Rating: 3/5 | Full Review…

You're the Worst may feel like another example of snappy, snarky "new" sitcoms like Difficult People and Casual, but beneath its crisp dialogue beats the indefatigable heart of an old-fashioned romantic comedy.

Sep 11, 2017 | Rating: 4/4 | Full Review…

It's a nice one-two combo, with different locales and tones to represent how differently the two are dealing with the break-up.

Audience Reviews for You're the Worst: Season 4

Not as good as the last season.
  • Dec 21, 2017
Still good season. Insane how it came together.
  • Dec 20, 2017
The best comedy show right now. It's a shame no ones paying attention.
  • Nov 17, 2017
A witty, funny and great show that is one the one hand one of the funniest shows and one the other hand it's so true when it comes to real life struggles with relationships and friends
  • Nov 16, 2017
Probably the weakest overall season for You're the Worst, as it's not quite as well-rounded, and also because this year deals with the breakup, so we don't see Jimmy and Gretchen together as much (face it, amidst the show's many merits, it's strongest has always been the chemistry that Aya Cash and Chris Geere have). Still, the laughs are big all season long, and it also gets progressively better. There's nothing here as impressive as the character-studies of previous seasons (i.e. Gretchen's depression or Edgar's PTSD), but there are still complex episodes, including a great standalone episode that features Zosia Mamet and ranks as a series best. A strong ending too, and next season appears ready to tackle yet another meaty topic: Engagement!
  • Oct 13, 2017
It's lost its comedic edge and become just an odd drama.
  • Oct 01, 2017
Each season makes you both care and hate the very bad people in this show.
  • Sep 28, 2017
amazing performance by the actors and great writing!
  • Sep 20, 2017
Do not blame Jimmy, he will be a better man.
