News & Interviews for Young Rock: Season 1
It's also unfortunately rare to see this many people of color on one broadcast TV show, and "Young Rock" benefits from the carefully chosen group filled with distinct, vibrant personalities.
When Young Rock stops long enough to focus on any one story, it's handled pretty well.
Young Rock is off to a solid start, and as a look into how The Rock became the baller he is today, it's must-see TV.
People struggling to wrap their arms around initial episodes of Young Rock may find a reason to stick around in the show's outstanding crew of actors impersonating such '80s-era wrestling legends as Ric Flair and Iron Sheik.
It's truth is its greatest strength, and creators Nahnatchka Khan and Jeff Chiang allows that truth to inform the comedy. One of the best sitcom premieres in ages. Cooking!
The flashbacks, which make up the bulk of each episode, tend to be gentle affairs, more interested in being sweet and teaching a lesson than in being funny.
The ingenuous part of the show is that it reveals these people to be "regular folk."
It's never truly irreverent enough to escape being more benign than groundbreaking, but it's still a good ol' time on the couch.
Despite being a glamorized version of Johnson's life, there is a lot to gain and feel connected to. Also, a highly-stylized and show-offy approach is very much his style so there really isn't any other way to tell his story.
Young Rock starts off well and it feels like it'll settle in to a nice family vibe once it gets into a groove with its format.
Luckily, the family sitcom material is endearing and enjoyable, if not exactly hilarious.
Audience Reviews for Young Rock: Season 1
3d agoThe best parts of the show are when they focus on the younger versions of Dwayne Johnson - don't care too much for the scenes with the real Dwayne Johnson talking to Randall Park.
3d agoLove it . Funny entertaining. Great cast
5d agohow the hell does this exist? Not funny, VERY surface level, meh acting, i dont get it.
Feb 24, 2021First 2 episodes were laugh out loud funny. They were also touching and felt realistic. As a wrestling fan since I was young, it was fun to "look behind the curtain" and watch the familial interaction. Actors cast as little Dewey and teenage/college Dwayne were both excellent choices.
Feb 24, 2021The greatest new series ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Feb 22, 2021WOW! This was a bad idea for a series. Empty, unfunny one-liners. Reminds me of the worst of 80's TV. Bad...Bad...Bad
Feb 20, 2021The pilot episode was heartwarming and hilarious. I was sad that it was only a half-hour show!
Feb 19, 2021This show was cringeworthy and the writing is forced
Feb 19, 2021👩🏼🦱the best show yet👍🏽
