What to Know

Critics Consensus

Young Sherlock doesn't aim to recreate Conan Doyle's work, rather, it takes pride in its liberal adaptation, delivering Guy Ritchie's signature blend of precise entertainment, sly style, and ingratiating characters.

This is a smooth-brained Sherlock. Anyone hoping for the puzzle-cracking pleasures of Benedict Cumberbatch’s BBC series, or any real character development, will be disappointed. Go to Full Review

While the other characters in the series talk a lot about how smart Sherlock is, Ritchie hasn’t got the patience or confidence to persuasively demonstrate this. Go to Full Review

Ritchie and Harness know exactly what kind of show they’re making -- and are having a hell of a time making it. Go to Full Review

Perhaps the excessive visual exuberance might feel like it "smothers" the narrative, especially when it comes to exploring human conflicts, but that's nitpicking. Overall, it works more than well. [Full review in Spanish] Go to Full Review

Smiling D @RT57046910 6h The writers definitely took creative liberties with this version. The plot takes a dark turn into a world void of trust, not to mention very little morality. Sherlock has very little to hope for in life other than solving mystery after mystery and the company of a naive mother. With a deep breath, I opt to accept the absurdities, such as presenting Donal Finn as a lady’s man. It could be me, but watching Moriarity masquerade as a Don Juan is equivalent to having Mr. Bean play 007. The Sherlock as we know him, with a dozen adaptations to broaden his beloved London adventures, has been hijacked to fit an alternate dark world that, to me, should bear a different name. See more Don S @RT31527174 7h Absolutely AWESOME Series! Highly Recommend for Family Binge Watching! Same Director of Sherlock Holmes Movies. Great Cast and Terrific Storylines. If you are a Sherlock Holmes fanatic you will NOT be disappointed. If you are New to Sherlock Holmes - go read them and you will be hooked. See more Sloth L @Sloth13 9h This spin on Mr Doyle’s classic is fresh. Characters are vibrant and some mysterious (Fiennes, J). Too bad Moriarty turns evil later. I am enjoying his character and friendship with Sherlock. I feel like too much of his genius is left to the flashbacks. It would be nice to see Sherlock’s brilliance pop up in other ways like the math professor problem. See more Angel B @capecitabine 13h Nooo Moriarty don't turn into a villain you're so sexy aha See more Connie L @RT10589228 13h Tired plotting that requires the hero to be virtual suspect is an early turn off. Neither of the two young leads are attractive or charismatic enough to bring any joy. Will watch for scenery, production values and a couple of the seasoned actors. Guy Ritchie, presenting the usual boring action sprees. It's all comic book. See more Craig B @Boundsy 1d I had high expectations of Young Sherlock. Sadly, I was bitterly disappointed. Some very wooden and generally unlikable performances from the main characters. I'm pretty sure Sir Arthur Conan Doyle didn't envisage his hero as a young criminal, defying the law at every chance he had. Young Holmes seems to be more of a criminal than his 'partner in crime' Moriarty, the real villain of the stories. I'm sure some viewers will find some enjoyment in the show (the lofty RT audience scores suggest this), but personally there are many far superior series to watch. See more Read all reviews
