What to Know

Critics Consensus

Young Sherlock doesn't aim to recreate Conan Doyle's work, rather, it takes pride in its liberal adaptation, delivering Guy Ritchie's signature blend of precise entertainment, sly style, and ingratiating characters.

This is a smooth-brained Sherlock. Anyone hoping for the puzzle-cracking pleasures of Benedict Cumberbatch’s BBC series, or any real character development, will be disappointed. Go to Full Review

While the other characters in the series talk a lot about how smart Sherlock is, Ritchie hasn’t got the patience or confidence to persuasively demonstrate this. Go to Full Review

One of the best series of the year with an amazingly fresh take on Sherlock Holmes with a career defining performance from Hero Fiennes Tiffin. Go to Full Review

Young Sherlock succeeds because it treats youth not as novelty but as a crucible. It explores the making of a mind, not just the solving of a mystery. The overall trajectory of season 1 is confident and engaging. Go to Full Review

Amusing but shallow, Young Sherlock passes time without displaying the magic that turned Old Sherlock into a memorable icon. Go to Full Review

Teagan W @RT07867249 18h def needs to be renewed i can’t wait to see it grow!! has so much potential See more Rebecca O @RT89863706 1d Loved watching this. I found the style loveably similar to the films starring Robert Downey Junior, obviously with some big differences but the joy it brought me to watch was on par. It brings about a fascinating start to Sherlocks climb to the private detective we are all familiar with. I found the casting wonderfully apt for the ages of the characters as they are supposed to be. Absolutely cannot wait for more series' in the future. See more Nestor L @Ness-E-tain 2d It reminds me of that one episode in Rick and Morty "Rixty Minutes" where the crime is solved, perpetrator is convicted and put in prison in under a minute except it wasn't funny. It doesn't take us through the crime nor does it care. Sherlock & Moriaty have all the answers. I want to be lead thru a story see the logic first time. The show will go on but without me thank you. Elementary is fast paced but this is off its rocker. See more Bryan S @Mr_Mou 2d It's not amazing, but not bad. Definitely enjoyable. If you think of it as it's own work and not a Sherlock Holmes story, it's overall a good show. But, knowing that the main character is supposed to he "Sherlock Holmes," it's kind of disappointing. Mostly because of the choice of making him a regular guy who's smart, instead of the eccentric, cold and logical genius the original Sherlock Holmes is. Sherlock feels dull, simple, and not as Sherlock as he could be. Taking all of that away, the plot, setting and pacing is pretty good. There's some plot twists that actually surprised me. And the decision to make Moriarty a main character who's not the antagonist was good to me. Now, the main issue are some characters. Besides Sherlock, Mycroft is a regular british guy with regular intellect, when he should be smarter than Sherlock himself. But those are details, and the show it's actually not bad. See more B F. @bfrank_duh 4d Didn’t love the ending unfortunately. But enjoyed the show, fast and expectedly quick witted. See more Penny S @PennySoph00 5d Would have been okay if the actor who played Sherlock put on a good performance, unfortunately jn my opinion he did not. See more Read all reviews
