What to Know

Critics Consensus

Bearing little resemblance to the beloved procedural it presumes to reboot, Young Wallander is dispiritingly unenlightening as a prequel and merely functional as a drama in its own right.

Watchable, if a bit conventional. Go to Full Review

All of this could be forgiven if Young Wallander worked as a drama in its own right, but it's so inept that one can only assume these decisions form some sort of elaborate marketing strategy by Netflix. Go to Full Review

Young Wallander ticks off its lead's familiar attributes in checklist fashion, rarely pausing to offer more developed hints at psychological cause and correlation. Go to Full Review

With a meaty budget and solid Scandi-noir foundation to build upon, Young Wallander proves a slickly-executed thriller. Go to Full Review

The series is fine, formally functional, without ever reaching the degree of excellence achieved by the splendid Kenneth Branagh's excellent British Wallander. [Full Review in Spanish] Go to Full Review

05/20/2022 Good series. Great plot, well written. See more Shawn C @WickedXian 03/06/2022 I dont know why people are rating this down just because it isn't what they expected or they are disappointed because of their love for the original series. This is not that, but it is a great show in it's own right. I love the everything about it and I consider it a better show. The cinematography is far more interesting. The show has an edge that the original did not. Adam Palsson is riveting. It is hard to take your eyes off him. He creates such depth to the character, but does it in very subtle ways. The character development is slow, but methodical. It gives you just enough to care, but holds enough back to make you want to find out more. I thoroughly enjoy the show and hope for more seasons. See more 02/26/2022 After the excellent Money Heist I tried Young Wallander being a fan of The Original series with Kristen Henriksson….and it's OK. Slightly bluntly patronising and ultimately annoying is the inherent lefty virtue signalling and woke issue agenda outbursts that pervades the show and most cop dramas nowadays wether in Swedish or English at any cost and usually to the detrimental plausibility/flow of the script/storyline. See more 02/21/2022 I didn't see the original Wallander but this is an unexpected surprise! Style is methodical and unvarnished and the story almost never went where I expected. This is an excellent show please renew. See more 10/17/2020 I have always been a fan of gritty crime dramas, especially international shows. I appreciated the moments that surprised me. I often find this genre (at least here in the US) to be predictable and trite. I am a fan of the original series Wallander, so hopefully this prequel will get renewed for a second season. See more 09/29/2020 Absolutely loved this new series. I understand those who are pure to the lore of Kurt Wallander and did not like this at all. But the spirit of the character was done brilliantly. The methodology of how Wallander goes about solving cases shines through in this new series. The storyline was good and believable. I can't wait for another season. See more Read all reviews
