Foster is so likable, she makes us care about Liza more than we would have expected.

Any success that Younger achieves is thanks to [Sutton] Foster-who, at 40, and despite the absurd situations she's placed in-is somehow more convincing at playing a twentysomething than the 27-year-old Hilary Duff.

Younger, with its fizzy sensibility and sexual frankness, is a not-so-veiled attempt to lure younger audiences to the network, but there's a caginess to the humor.

Once the viewer moves past whether or not a rather winsome Foster, who is 40 in real life, could pass for someone 14 years younger - she can, by the way - the real enjoyment is in watching what she learns about herself and others along the way.

It has the interesting quality of actually being about something that not many shows are about: the push-pull of aging as a tough thing in some moments and a really fortunate, glorious thing in others

The show's crisp, witty dialogue is mostly egalitarian among the ages, and everyone's great at working the words.

t's a concept that shouldn't work at all, but somehow, Foster and the rest of the cast - including Hilary Duff and Debi Mazar - elevate Younger into something both silly and special...

A really excellent freshman season, in which every episode passed the Bechdel test.

Jun 26, 2018 | Full Review…

Adorable comedy has sex jokes, drinking, stealth feminism.

Apr 1, 2015 | Rating: 4/5 | Full Review…

The bright, sparkly Younger zips right along, getting laughs from star Sutton Foster as a 40-year-old trying to pass as 26 to snag a job at a publishing company.

Mar 31, 2015 | Full Review…

Younger isn't groundbreaking or sensational, but its honest characters, solid premise and sporadic hints at a razor-sharp wit will no doubt hook fans of creator Darren Star's previous works and should net in a few converts as well.

Mar 31, 2015 | Rating: 3.5/5 | Full Review…

Foster is charismatic and likable, the supporting cast is strong, and the show's version of NYC is as magical (and unrealistic) as anything Carrie Bradshaw ever experienced.

Audience Reviews for Younger: Season 1

  • Dec 08, 2019
Entertaining but painfully ignorant, especially in reference to India. It is shocking that something being broadcast globally has not even had basic research done about what people do in India and portray it to this day as a place of 'poverty' and where they only eat 'curry'. Clearly researchers have never visited the country wholly and therefore have no right to portray it in this backward fashion. Utterly shocking.

Though is not the most believable story either the more original one, the charismatic cast and its interesting premise delivers more than what everyone was expecting. Sutton Foster was a great choice for the main role.

Instantly became my favourite show when it first aired and my love for it has only grown.
  • Dec 29, 2017
The series started out with promise, but each season is getting less and less believeable. Most of season 4 is filled with time wasters, like watching the actors makeout/kiss a dozen times or more per episode. Or have sex. Where’s the plot line? Where’s the depth? I want comedy, not softcare porn.
  • Dec 13, 2017
The plot moves along quickly which makes it easy to watch. Really like this show.
  • Oct 22, 2017
Absolutely Amazing, Amazing, Amazing, worth the watch. Honestly, the only reason I watched is that Hilary Duff is a main character, totally mesmerized by the whole setting, cast, and plot. FANTASTIC.

    This Show Is so... Awesome!
  • Mar 16, 2016
Just awful. The premise is ridiculous, Sutton Foster is a terrible actress who couldn't pull off being 36 let alone 26, but, Hillary Duff seems completely uninterested in acting on this so called comedy. (Really just more trash TVLAND is spewing out)
  • Mar 12, 2016
One of the best new shows of the year. It all feels very "now". With clever writing, good acting and likable characters all around, this is a show that shouldn't be missed.
