Superman Returns

Wow! This is the best superhero movie of all! Which is appropriate, because it is about the best superhero of all: Earth's greatest hero, Superman! I had high hopes for this movie, never dreaming that my expectations would be met, but they were! Singer nailed it; he brought Superman to life exactly as I had him in my mind. Routh totally pulled off both sides of the Man of Steel magnificently, and Kate Bosworth is a better Lois Lane than the old one. And, of course, I can't imagine a more perfet Lex Luthor. Spacey was the perfect blend of comic relief and extremely cruel sadism.
This movie is more spiritual than you might expect, and although the main character is a being whom none of us can truly relate to, the film has a lot of heart.

The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe

This was an entertaining movie. It doesn't really have any brilliant thought behind it, so it's a good kids' movie.

The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King

This is film making at its finest. Of course, one day The Lord of the Rings will probably be outdone, but it is a milestone; and currently stands, judged by the qualities we look for in movies as art, as the best of the best. The visual effects in this movie reached new heights, the acting is top caliber, the music is among the best musical scores ever written for movies, and the poetic writing gives it a sensational emotional pull. Its strongest quality is the story itself, which even Tolkein would be proud to call his own. You could examine this movie for years and still find something new in it every time you watch it; and its central theme is hope. I find this to be a refreshing change from the general cynicism of our culture.

Titanic (1997)

I'm not afraid to say this is a great movie. It deserves its place among the classics. This movie is a good story well told. It has a good script, and the actors/director/everyone else involved brought it to life very effectively. And, of course, it was all the more powerful because of its amazing musical score.

Hellboy (2004)

As comic movies go, not the best. As action movies go, not the best. But not the worst of either category.
