Horror of Dracula

The original Hammer Dracula seems more like a period melodrama drama than scary horror movie these days, but it's still plenty of fun. As Van Helsing and Dracula, Cushing and Lee are terrific in the roles they were born to play, and director Terence Fisher generates plenty of atmosphere.

Much-hyped and perhaps overrated, but nevertheless a witty and charming comedy with fine performances and sparkling script. Teen pregnancy has never been so much fun!

Training Day-writer David Ayer continues to dabble in the world of violent LA cops with this predictable thriller while Keanu Reeves squints a lot and tries to act tough.

Vampires lay siege to an isolated Alaskan town in David Slade's follow-up to Hard Candy. It certainly delivers the gore and action, and the vampires themselves are suitably scary creations. There are a few gaping plot holes and the film has no idea how to end, but this is still a lively, entertaining chiller.

Hitchcock's remake of his 1934 thriller is perhaps one of his weaker '50s pictures, but it's still a lot of fun. The first half is particularly tense, while the Albert Hall assassination sequence is one of Hitchcock's greatest ever set-pieces. It's too long and the pace slackens in the middle, but the masterful direction and sympathetic performances from James Stewart and Doris Day as the frantic parents hunting for their kidnapped son keep it sufficently gripping.
