Movie Ratings and Reviews

Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides

Entertaining enough, but the charm is starting to wear thin. Depp and Rush are awesome as usual. Just wish the story would have been more uniquely suited to the movie.

Winnie the Pooh

Good movie, but it could have had more substance and length to it.

Not as funny as "The Hangover", but very close. Wayyyyy better than I thought it would be. Melissa McCarthy is awesomely good here.

Horrible Bosses

Hilarious and very entertaining. Kevin Spacey is awesome! I've never liked Jennifer Aniston so much...her best role ever.

Cars 2
Cars 2(2011)

Much more focused on Mater this time and that's not necessarily a bad thing. Decent sequel, but not a great Pixar film.

X-Men: First Class

A great entry to the series. Cool to see the historical ideas from reality mixed with that of the superheros'.

Larger than life battles and interesting set-up, but not much chemistry between humans and gods.

The Thing
The Thing(2011)

Very creepy and effects that top the original. However, the original is still king as far as the overall feeling of paranoia generated.

Paranormal Activity 3

The tension builds to an all-too-quick finale that is creepy and relatively effective...but doesn't close the book on the story.

Puss in Boots

A good movie, but not as great as the Shrek movies. Lots of cat in-jokes including the dreaded litterbox dance!

Rambo (Rambo IV)

Great movie...but wow...tons of blood and body parts. Much more gore than the last few horror films I've seen. Take that as you will.

I Am Legend
I Am Legend(2007)

Solid performance by Will Smith. Only flaws are the CGI "vampires" with overextendable jaws. Go back to The Mummy where you belong!

Alvin and the Chipmunks

It's better than bad. Still...it's the Chipmunks. C'mon.

Not the greatest movie of all time, BUT...it's a movie experience that has to be seen, felt, and heard! Excellent work on a movie of this scale with $25M budget and almost TOTAL secrecy in this day and age...my hats off to you.

Clerks II
Clerks II(2006)

Another home run from Kevin Smith. It's got something for everyone including the animal lovers! hehe

A Beautiful Mind

Excellent portrayal of the thin line between genius and madness. Crowe is good, Connelly is great.

The Producers

A lot better than I thought it would be...pretty funny. Main drawback is the length.

Mr. Deeds
Mr. Deeds(2002)

Watchable and occasionally funny, but not Sandler's best.

Tenacious D in The Pick of Destiny

JB and KG kickin it and stickin it to the man...and the devil himself! Rawk!!! You must see Jack Black as a baby sasquatch!

V for Vendetta

Not as awesome as I had hoped it would be, but very thought-provoking, original, and powerful. The ending will knock ya out!

Curious George

Cutesy and fun. Pretty much what you'd expect but a tad better.

Night Watch
Night Watch(2006)

The beginning of this movie is very cool...as are several of the concepts and reworkings of "classic" monsters. The ending makes you want to see even more.

The Departed
The Departed(2006)

There's good...and then there's great. And this is great. An all-star ensemble at the top of their game, a violent yet compelling tale of good and evil and the shades in between. This movie is a joy to just watch unravel.

The Omen
The Omen(2006)

Don't waste your time and money on this pale imitation of the original. While I liked some of the new effects they were able to use, I really disliked the cheapening of the entire script. The acting was pretty vile considering the stars...Liev Schreiber and the boy who plays Damien stand out as the main stinkers. The last twenty minutes are almost worth it...but again, pretty disappointing. Mia Farrow is one of the few good things in this movie, but it's definitely no Rosemary's Baby!

I hate to have to remind you...but Samuel L. Jackson is just that damn good.

X-Men: The Last Stand

Thrilling and entertaining movie that nicely caps off the X-Men trilogy while still leaving room for more story. Yes, there's lots of special effects (even more so than in the others), and yes, there's plenty of mutant battling (especially in the last thirty minutes of the movie). Don't expect to be bowled over by Kelsey Grammer's Beast, though; I kept waiting for him to call someone Niles. Swapping out Nightcrawler for Kitty Pryde was a great move, though; she provides tension between Rogue and Iceman PLUS steals several scenes. I will also warn you that if you are a fan of the comic, you will NOT anticipate some of the events that happen...One major nitpick with this film that I can't help but mention is notice what time of day it is right before the final attack...and then what time of day it is during the final attack. Bleh. Anyways, great popcorn film, awesome fights, and most of the new mutants are interesting.

The Descent
The Descent(2006)

The only thing that could have really put this over the top and into the halls of infamy would have been to have made it slightly more realistic and less fantastic. That's where the fear comes in, Hollywood...not when something seamlessly runs on the ceiling like a spider defying gravity. I do love several things about this movie...but there are also a few other inconsistencies that make me not like it as much. Anyways, go see it yourself. I recommend this to anyone who appreciates fear of the unknown and the dark side...

Grandma's Boy

I'm very surprised that this film didn't do better in the theater. This generation's Cheech and Chong movies done with an American Pie/Road Trip/Eurotrip/Gamers Gone Wild mentality. Hilarious and centers around video games...that makes it good even without the rest.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest

This is a great picture, epic in scope...comes with an awesome CGI octopus to boot! You'd have to know me a little to appreciate why that means a lot to me, but that's OK. Anyways, lots of surprises, set-ups, and a few twists make this a great rip-roaring popcorn flick. I highly recommend this movie.

See No Evil
See No Evil(2006)

I went to see this movie primarily because of Kane. I've been a fan of his since I started watching wrestling again. He was actually pretty good in this movie, but not spectacular by any means. The level of gore in this movie was decent...a few scares as well. Again, however, nothing over the top. Kudos to the people who found that "All the Children of the World" song...it's creepy. Some of the deaths were very well executed. Just a couple of quick nitpicks (warning: minor spoilers): Why show close-ups of rats and cockroaches when something else interesting is going on? Who OK'ed the idea to have male and female prisoners leave the jail and clean a hotel guarded (chaparoned?) by a disabled police officer and a clueless, powerless guard? Still...fun stuff.
