Very, very basic civil rights fare. Complete with plenty of grandstanding, righteous freakouts and soulless bad guys. Even agreeing with most of it however, won't stop me from commenting on how uninspired it seemed. Certainly no 7 Years A Slave, much less Hunger.
Workable exposés - expose people; good ones - expose systems; the best - bring a mirror. I'm no fan of the Soviet system and this is quite masterfully executed, but that mirror is nowhere to be found. While examples like this are just far too global and plentiful for trully objective fingers to point so still. A particularly conspicuous shortcoming given the resurgence in red-baiting culture of late on the corporate left (with 'Russia-gate' and the like).
