JD's Review of Safe Haven
I might have given this movie a higher rating, if it wasn't so cliched and uninteresting. I think out all the, Nicholas Sparks movies this one is probably the more tolerable movie to watch becuase it does have some good things in it and there's an actual twist in the movie, which was actually pretty shocking. The movie also had some dark stuff in it, but unfortunately when the cheesy romance between the two leads start happening the movie starts getting more and more cliched and really cheesy. The lead actors, Josh Duhamel and Julianne Hough didn't really have the greatest chemistry, which is no surprise there because every time I watch a, Nicholas Sparks movie I never feel any chemistry from any of the lead characters. So yeah, Josh Duhamel and Julianne Hough didn't do a terrible job acting wise, but when the romance started happening, I didn't feel like they had good chemistry whatsoever, it's pretty bad that the two leads from, Beautiful Creatures had better chemistry then them. Now, for the supporting cast, which there wasn't much of, but all supporting cast members weren't that great in this movie, none of them supplied any good jokes and or even good drama. As for the writing and direction I can see that they were trying to make this movie a little different, then your typical cheesy romance, but they kind of failed at that, yes there were some dark moments in the film and yes the first act of this movie is kind of interesting, but like I said when the romance starts happening the movie starts going down hill. So, the writing wasn't horrible, I just think they should have made the movie more exciting. The movie was directed by, Lasse Hallstrom who has directed great movies in the past like, What's Eating Gilbert Grape, The Cider House Rules and Chocolat, so I don't understand why he couldn't make this movie more interesting. Well, anyways this movie is what it is, it's not an awful movie, but it sure isn't a good one, so I suggest that people should skip this flick.
