Melinda and Melinda
½

V. good...I'd love to see this as a play! I like the sequence where the two girls try and jump out of the window...

But it was kinda confusing at the beginning with the two-opposite stories...

The Little Shop of Horrors

Nope, i like the 1980's version so much better!

Chicago
Chicago(2002)
½

No -

...after watching the Westend musical i couldn't watch this -

Rain Man
Rain Man(1988)
½

Sweet story...

Hoffman is wonderful...

The Deep Blue Sea
½

Adore it, even though it took me a good year to find.
I do not like the blonde's husband!-awful actor...

Kenneth More is surprisingly good - very fun to watch, yet his character is truly awful in this play.

Vivien Leigh shines as always...

Camille
Camille(1936)

Beautiful, originally i thought Garbo would not suit the role, but after watching it she was heart-breakingly good! I love how she delivers - he could have the been the love of my life, line!~superb! Inviation to waltz is haunting now - if anyone loved the book ~ this is the next best!

Waterloo Bridge

I love this film...
The first 40 mins are nice, fun and joyful and then Myra's life is completly turned upside down and her life is destroyed...

A tragic ending...

If u liked this you should definately watch Vivien Leigh in 'Anna Karenina'...

Dame Edna Everidge mentioned that when Vivien Leigh is on the bridge walking to her own death she has the look of the famous picture 'The Scream'! ~ watch it again and see what you think...

Ship of Fools

What can i say - superb, except i am a bit confused, on my dvd it stated the film was in colour (i was shocked and excited as i had thought it was in B/W), yet when i came to watch the film it was in b/w ~ tut!

It was a bit sad, as this is the last Vivien Leigh i shall watch (since i have watched all of the available others).

I have read the book, and enjoyed that significantly and the film just polished my view.

Vivien Leigh was devastatingly good - i love her drunken scenes!

The dwarf concluded the tale superbly!

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix

Extrordinarily good! Of course the book has so much more, BUT a damn good adaptation...

The Simpsons Movie

Well, i am just going to state it is more like an overlong mediocre episode than a movie with deservedly rave reviews...

The Little Foxes

Very cold and uncomfortable to watch. I didn't enjoy this film due to it's constant depressiveness. I felt very sympathetic towards Birdy! Leo annoyed me-his voice...

I agree with 'fourflower'-where were the Southern accents?

Bette Davis was wonderful as the evil little fox...

Another Thin Man

Once again Loy and Powell were a wonder to watch!Oh and there's a baby now too.

The actual story was of vague interest, carefully constructed around the one liners of Powell and devasting glares of Loy.
The plot outcome was genius and once again was a complete surprise to me!

The Ghost and Mrs. Muir
½

At first glance i thought of abandoning this film, yet i soon wrmd to it when the captain arrived.

The ending when the old widow Mrs Muir dies and is revisted by the Captain (who she thought was a dream) was beautiful, even thought soundingly sickeningly sentimental.
Rex Harrison was a blighter to watch and Gene Tierney is enchantingly hansome. Once again Sanders was a triumph as the o-so-in-love-whoops-i'm-married Uncle Neddy.
One to watch if you're in the mood for an old-fashioned farce!

Monsieur Verdoux
½

It is always strange to see the star of the silent era talking. The film was dream to watch ~ sometimes b/w makes the film.
The story itself, an idea of Orson Welles, was very fresh and fun; i was almost deceived into accepting Verdoux's immorality as moral. Verdoux seems, underneath, to be a true saint who is only forced into vice to protect his disabled wife and young son. His moral sense is shown when he lets his young victim escape the fate he had doomed her too after listening to her tragic story.

My favourite scene is the boast trip when he tries to kill his 'lucky' mistress but insteads almosts ends up poisoning himself.
Overall a beautifully 'moral' enjoyment!

Kim
Kim(1951)
½

I usually find EF a bloody bore to watch, yet i have to say i enjoyed watching him as Red Beard!
Young Kim was v. precise. Overall Victor Saville directed a faithful adaptation to Rudyard Kipling's fine adventure tale.

The Picture of Dorian Gray

Saunders, what more can i say but, a Dod amongst mortals -> he was the perfect embodment of Sir Henry.

Dorian didn't look as i had expected him to, yet the act itself was enchanting~his emotionless face was unnaturally terrifying and it suited Dorian perfectly.

I liked the technicolour moment and it really showed how wonderful the whole film could have been. I thought something had gone wrong with my TV! It showed the comparison between b/w and colour films.

Perfect story, i never exspected Wilde to write such a dark tale but it is still intertangled with his observations and cutting remarks ~ mainly in the form of Sir Henry.

The Kid
The Kid(1921)

The opening title for the film was perfect!
"A comedy with a smile--and perhaps a tear"

Chaplin and Coogan are most endearing. Coogan looked so small and his reactions were ostentaciously heartening. Some of the film seems rather dated (understandable) - humour-wise, yet it still stands strong with me pleasure-wise.

The story is darling and i sighed with joy when the poor ducky was reunited with his tramp!

After the Thin Man

A nice sequel, the Charles' are back and are as fun, as ever!

James Stewart has such a strange accent, i did not expect him to pop up in the Thin Man series!

General Comment:

Enjoyable detecting...

Mary Poppins
Mary Poppins(1964)
½

I loved it, it's a v. strange film however, i've started remembering bits in it, did it at one point turn-into cartoon? did they have a tea-party on the ceiling? I'm not sure...

½

It just brings the cartoon to life...

½

Fahrenheit 9/11

Unignorable yet i chaven't quite finished watching it. Great propaganda film.

Heathers
Heathers(1988)

I liked it~in my Winona Ryder phase.

My Big Fat Greek Wedding

Didn't really enjoy it that much at all; infact i was quite annoyed after watching it. It didn't make me laugh all that much and to the most part it was too loud-for no logical reason.

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs

One of my most fav disney films!

Sliding Doors
½

I've never seen a film quite like this before. Awfully sad, yet full of potential.

Planes, Trains and Automobiles
½

Monty Python's And Now for Something Completely Different

I adore this film, especially the Liver donor bit (i adore Eric Idle)...ooh the 'camp it up' privates...

Team America: World Police
½

So very awfully hilarious.

I mean what the hell is going on in this film? It is really quite amazing.

I just sat watching in silent awe as the puppet puked until it collasped.

Wallace and Gromit in A Close Shave
½

I really like Shaun. Fun little movie.

Hot Fuzz
Hot Fuzz(2007)

Rather good! As per usual this team is spot on!!! I love the fact i recognise the village (Sanford = Wells ( my local city)...

Timothy Dalton is hot and surprisingly rather funny...

Ooh hehe ~ Bill Bailey twins...

Saving Private Ryan

Seemed a bit unrealistic, but then it's not really my kind of movie...

A Streetcar Named Desire

Before this film came on the air, the announcer said this is probably one of the most powerful films you will ever see...

However when i first watched this i could hardly understand what Brando was saying as he speaks kinda slurred all the time and i wasn't too sure if Brando's performance was good or not. However after i read the play it was clear Brando played his part amazingly and Vivien Leigh took Blanche to the limits and was fantastic ~ she really was spot on!

Great tragic Tennesse Williams play/film...

High Fidelity
½

Fun to watch film...

Ginger Snaps
Ginger Snaps(2001)

Laughable at most.

Interview with the Vampire
½

I liked it, but i like all dark Victorian-esque movies. I may read Anne Rice.

The Great Dictator
½

Wow he speaks once again...

Lovely little concussion dance. I think it was a bit too immature in bits, especially where Hynkel was involved.

A in-bits-hard-to-watch satire BUT v. intellegent and somewhat amsuing too. The speech at the end is v. moving and you really feel the if-only emotion. The Jewish Barber is the voice of every fair-minded person who was alive during WW2 and he really brings history down to earth and imaginable~the sheer unfairness of the situation in Germany is brought to home!

I like Goddard as Hannah, also.

Shaun of the Dead
½

Hahaha

Xcellent love how comic book some of it is! Simon Pegg is hilarious! Most fav bit is where the gang blugeons the landlord of the pub to 'death' whilst Queen's 'Don't stop me now' is playing! I love that song...

If u like this movie u should try out da TV series 'Spaced'

It actually has most of the cast in it, also i like on the estras when Simon Pegg kisses the lead of Coldplay's head.

The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy

Definately not as good as it should have been...

Zaphod still rocks my world (Freddie Mercury inspiration!)

Monty Python's The Meaning of Life
½

Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind

Strange, v. original, and slightly creepy. Not the kind of film you'd imagine Jim Carrey to be in. I love Kate Winslet as Clementine - she'd be a terror to meet though. Overall enjoyable...

All About Eve
½

V. familiar, i feel like i have already watched it, yet i am sure i haven't....

Great, obvious, twist...

The Majestic(2001)

Anna Karenina

So terribly sad, like 'The Roman Spring of Mrs Stone' you just know there is no hope for her...

I've read the book, aswell, it helps you understand the characters a lot more.

I wanted to know if Anna was just paranoid about Vronsky going away to marry that other princess or if she was correct...turns out shes one paranoid person. You really feel for her (especially about her relationship with her son).

The Garbo version is meant to be the best, however i adore this version, and i've never watched any other version, but i will soon.

BUT one thing, Vronsky is so stiff in this film, he's not as passionate as i'd exspect him to be, for Anna to like him that much. Other than that the film is wonderful...

Grosse Pointe Blank

V. good! Slightly strange...but enjoyable!

Léon: The Professional

Claude Rains is superb and plays Caesar very playfully!

My next step is to watch Elizabeth Taylor as Cleopatra'...

V. V.gd! I'm not sure why but i exspected it to be slightly bad!

Scarlett

V.gd adaptation, includes diff. storylines from the original book which were great...

I have to say i am a huge 'GWTW' fan and that's the real reason i wathced it, so it was really strange to see different actors portraying the roles which feature in 'GWTW' BUT they did v. well!

Timothy Dalton looked v. gd as Rhett however he did play him as a bit of a bastard!

Joanne Whalley looks sooo dif. from Vivien Leigh, so that was strange, BUT she plays the 'new' Scarlett v. well!

Overall v. gd! N i love Colm Meaney as Colum...

Gothika(2003)
½

Strange, yes, but not amazing...

I liked Penelope Cruz's character.

Identity
Identity(2003)

A very imaginative story! I did not spot the twist atall in the end!

I thought the twist was that the 'police man' had swapped with the convict BUT o no thats not all...

Ooh and right at the end...OMG another twist i did not even imagine! I mean i thought maybe something would happen to her, but definately not that, maybe i'm just so unimaginative BUT i do think he had some great twists...

I love Meryll Streep ~ she's fabulous in it and her character's premonitions work out perfectly!

Okay i've just noticed that Jude Law is meant to be in it WOW i dind't even notice him...

Johnny English
½

Everyone said it was hilarious HOWEVER when i sat down and watched it, it seemed pretty predictable and definately not as gd as it could have been...

Maybe i'm just used to Rowan Atkinson's older material (as i did basically grow up on MR. Bean and i love Not the 9 O'clock news), either way the laughs weren't that clever...

Great cast though...

The Bourne Identity

I didn't really get it...but then again i wasn't really paying much attention.

21 Days
21 Days(1940)
½

I loved it...it isn't as good as what it could have been, but tis amazing either way.

Basil Dean it a great director, i like the scene where they are at the fairgorund, ennoying the last few days they will share together and you see them riding a rollercoaster through it all.

I think i would hate to be filmed whilst riding one, and it looks like Vivien Leigh is pretty scared! lol

Doctor Zhivago
½

Definately good, sooo sad in the end...

If only she turned around...

½

Quite good actually, i love how neorotic she makes herself seem...

The Emperor's New Groove
½

Very funny, and strange...it's very fast paced so it did confuse me a bit, as i'm used to the older disney films which are more narrative and maybe a bit more normal...(even with the crazy scene, like the whole of 'Alice in Wonderland' and the 'Drunk' scene from Dumbo which is still pretty crazy for me)...

Gone With the Wind

Indescribable...my favourite film ever, and my favourite story ever too!

If you love this film, read the book! I've done just that and the book makes you understand the characters soo much more, i've got to say i now adore Melly (not that i didn't before)...

But one thing, why does Scarlett like Ashley so much, he is so weak compared to Rhett, even in the book he's not that much better. However he is a bit more forward, with Scarlett, in the book.

The 'stairs' scene (if you can guess which that one is) was what caught my eyes, i cannot believe how cold Rhett can be! tut

...well one hell of a film, everyone must watch it!

Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan

I'd love to meet that family (of course no the Kirby's) but i think being in that house would seriously freak me out ~~~ especially with the constant fireworks!

However i did think this film was a bit slow to start, but that is the only critism i can offer and even that one is without much weight.
