The Seventh Seal (Det Sjunde inseglet)

Was worried that this was going to be 2 hours of dated boredom after the first 5 minutes but my fears were unfounded since it actually is a really good movie.

The dialogue is way ahead of it's time and the light philosophical plot is interesting and, considering when it was released, quite daring.

A lot of scenic shots that look great too, one of very few movies that is visually impressive in black & white.

Close Encounters of the Third Kind

Another classic that I by all rights should have watched years ago.

Despite how long ago it was made, Close Encounters is still visually impressive for the most part (until the extremely dated looking aliens at the end) and has some of the most tense scenes that I've seen in a movie for years.

Even without having seen it before it's cultural significance was obvious but the extent to which it has influenced other Sci-Fi movies hadn't really occurred to me before.

Independence Day, Signs and the 4400 are the most evidently inspired works that I could see here but even future Spielberg projects like his T.V. series Taken draws heavily from the story of CEotTK.

A very enjoyable watch with such a grand concept and build up that the pay off was never going to be able satisfy me completely but it came close.

The Iron Giant
9 years ago via Flixster

A massive disappointment from Brad Bird, after watching The Incredibles and Ratatouille I was keen to see his early film and perhaps that's why I found it as unenjoyable.

The story is very linear and slow paced with the addition of annoying central characters and mediocre animation. The film does have a slightly better ending but it raises more questions than it answers and is poorly resolved.

What was the point of getting Vin Diesel as the voice of the giant? It barely said a word and could have been voiced by anyone without affecting the film in any way.

Not quite as good as I remembered but still really funny.

I want a pet Stitch.
