A beautifully rendered adventure fantasy film with strong, interesting characters. If you felt horribly burned by Crystal Skull (and who didn't?) check this out to see it done right. This is pretty much "Raiders of the Lost Ark" filtered through the "Pan's Labyrinth" lens. Guillermo Del Toro, a filmmaker of pure heart, continues his push towards the top of my directors list.
"Cinema Paradiso" for the film geek set. Not the strongest film in the world (the script is fairly simplistic), but it earns likability through sheer passion and gumption... and really isn't that what making movies is about?
Sorely, sorely disappointing: one of my favorite modern actors pretty much wasted on an entirely mediocre script. The only laughs this movie got out of me were out of pure nostalgia for one of my favorite TV shows of all time.
