Cath's Review of Argo
Excellent political thriller telling the real story of how 6 Americans were rescued from Iran after the uprising of 1979 as part of a bizzare plot that involved disguising them as a film crew scouting for locations for fictional sci-fi movie Argo. The main strength is Affleck's narrative skill. The story is a winner, and he avoids melodrama or emotional manipulation on the whole. Tense and gripping, but also funny with its look at Hollywood in quite a different way.
With Gone Baby Gone, The Town and Argo, Affleck is on a great run. Three excellent films and he is clearly a talented director.
