Daybreakers (2010)

Three stars for uniqueness of premise and a half-star for the execution. The style and feel of the film is top-notch, but the plot meanders at points, and the runtime is about 30 minutes too short. The acting is great all-around, and the scares are spot-on. I suppose my main gripe is with the loose subplots and the vagueness of a couple of select characters. Overall, I appreciated this film a lot for taking the vampire genre and doing it right.

Zombieland (2009)

This movie just drools awesome. It's disgusting, hilarious, and even genuinely touching at times. The opening credits show people running from zombies in slow-motion to Metallica's "For Whom the Bell Tolls." So, it's an awesome film within the first ten minutes, basically. Woody Harrelson makes the film, along with one of the GREATEST celebrity cameos EVER. Not exaggerating. GREATEST. EVER.

Best movie I've seen all summer -- nay, all year. Better action than Transformers 2, and a kickass story to boot. This film works on so many levels and is one of the first in a long while that I can say is truly unique. No big names, meager budget, amazing movie. See it, and avoid spoilers at all costs!
