Movie Ratings and Reviews

Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery

The film that launched a thousand 'Oh Behaaayve's. Highly funny, hence, quotable.

The Matrix Revolutions

Was never going to top the original, but it was ok.

Ocean's Thirteen

As everyone's been saying; better than 12, worse than 11. Still looks cool though, as you'd expect.

Men in Black II

First one's better, but yeah ok.

The Nutty Professor

I couldn't find the off switch.

Ice Age
Ice Age(2002)

I thought it was jolly spiffing.

American Wedding

The Finch & Stiffler Show. Only watchable because of their antics.

Scream 2
Scream 2(1997)

Is this the one that decends into farce with Billy Loumis's mother? What's it worth, about a 2?

Mrs. Doubtfire

Decent kids movie. I was a kid myself when I saw it.

If it's the one with Robin Williams voicing the Genie, full marks.

Die Hard
Die Hard(1988)

A highly unoriginal yippee-ki-yay from me for this. An action movie I like, unsurpassed by its sequels.

Back to the Future

Brilliant, even if I did see Back to the Future II before it...don't ask!

Lara Croft Tomb Raider - The Cradle of Life

I think I might've seen this, obviously that speaks volumes.

Miami Vice
Miami Vice(2006)

Enjoyable, some cool moments, Foxx did well.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest

I know I liked it, but I can't remember if I liked it more than the first.

Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas

Some of the weirdest and funniest comedy ever seen. Highly original I think.

Full Metal Jacket

Gunnery Seargent Hartman and Gomer Pyle: A love story. Not so much. Great film.

Ahead of its time. Yul Brynner is like that guy in nightmares you can never run away from, despite the fact he's going at walking pace.

Always enjoy Rocky (in moderation - no Rocky V).

The Running Man

Someday soon, all gameshows will be like this.

25th Hour
25th Hour(2003)

Surprisingly good and weighty film, 9/11 also dealt with well.

Lost In Translation

Great film, love the cast, scenery and location.

Blazing Saddles

Harrrumph! Mel Brooks sure can write 'em. Second only to Airplane!

We all know it beats Alien, which is some feat.

Requiem for a Dream

Like falling down a staircase into a cesspit of hopeless despair, you feel every step they hit in this movie.

Ferris Bueller's Day Off

Watched about 25 times, loved it.

Just beats Blazing Saddles in "funniest spoof ever" stakes. RIP Lloyd Bridges, how I laughed...

American History X

Brutal lessons learned in this! Really hit a note with me, it was brilliant.

Y Tu Mama Tambien

Cool road film, very well executed.

Fight Club
Fight Club(1999)

I think a lot of people wanted to be Tyler Durden. Great movie (even if Meatloaf's in it).

The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King

Amazing film, only missing out on five stars as the ending drags on.

Total Recall
Total Recall(1990)

Futuristic interplanetary mindfuckings ahoy!

Great, great film, unforgettable.

Quintessential Gangsterness.

In the Name of the Father

Still the best film I've ever seen.

8 Mile
8 Mile(2002)

Or The Eminem Story. The battle scenes were worth watching but

Donnie Darko
Donnie Darko(2001)

Fantastic film. Saw it at an open-air screening too and it was even better the second time.

The Incredibles

Very good. Looked great.

Finding Nemo
Finding Nemo(2003)

Excellent, enjoyed it a lot.

Scary Movie
Scary Movie(2000)

One of the funnier spoofs in that flooded market these days. Funny, but not quite Airplane.

Ocean's Eleven

Loved this. Haven't seen the original but this was great.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

A tad more sinister than the original, but wasn't as good.

About a Boy
About a Boy(2002)

Visually very similar to Love Actually, I liked this as well, strange for me. Grant's best role since the obvious one...Four Weddings...

50 First Dates

Sandler being Sandler again but it was good.

Love Actually

Enjoyed this way more than I thought.

Save the Last Dance

They should've saved it...

Pretty Woman
Pretty Woman(1990)

I can see why women love it, it's ok.

Funny until it inevitably goes to mush.

The Ring
The Ring(2002)

Preferred the Jap original to this more obvious 'made to make you jump' version.

Sin City
Sin City(2005)

I was impressed. Looked astounding as well.

The Matrix
The Matrix(1999)

I'd give this era-defining film 6/5 if I could.

Saw II
Saw II(2005)

Excellent follow-up, I liked Saw and this bettered it.

War of the Worlds

The futuristic bot/machines and on-screen destruction looked impressive, but the rest was so-so.

Mr. & Mrs. Smith

Plot seemed like fun, wasn't all that bad. And Angelina looked amazing.

Meet the Fockers

It was ok. I recall it was Ben Stiller overkill when he was in this and two other films that came out around the same time. De Niro saved this one.

There's Something About Mary

Again, this surprised me, and Matt Dillon was great, so slimy.

Ace Ventura: Pet Detective

The first two or three times, I nearly died laughing!

The Longest Yard

Good remake, but Sandler plays himself once again.

American Pie
American Pie(1999)

Some very funny moments.

Shrek 2
Shrek 2(2004)

Very surprised at how good it was!

Yeah it was ok.

King Kong
King Kong(2005)

Great remake, better than the Jeff Bridges one, not sure if it beats the original though. The fight scene with the dinosaurs is incredible.

Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith

Saw it twice in the cinema. Easily the best of the new bunch for me.
