12 Years a Slave

By this point in my life I've just about reached my fill of slavery movies, which is why it took me so long to watch this one despite the good press. But I finally did and I really enjoyed it. This didn't play like a slavery movie to me; it was a story of overcoming during the time of slavery. Plus I got to learn about an American historical figure I hadn't known about before. It was amazing seeing his story.

The Equalizer

Expected more from this since it was a Denzel movie but this was really cliched, had little explanation, and got a quite boring at points.

This was a very cute and modern remake of the Annie musical. I could have done without Cameron Diaz at all times but it was still really fun, and I loved the way they changed the songs to fit this time period.

American Hustle

I enjoyed this movie, though I still don't understand why it received as many Oscar noms as it did. Or maybe I'm just biased because I think 70s-based movies are kinda nasty. But I will say Amy Adams ruled this film for me and the ending was perfect.

Rurôni Kenshin: Kyôto Taika-hen (Rurouni Kenshin: Kyoto Inferno)

Thank you United Airlines for having this movie with English subtitles on my flight because I had been searching for months! So glad I finally got to see this movie. Definitely enjoyed it but I spent so much of the movie laughing or being disappointed at Aoshi's role I had to downgrade the rating. They made a lot more changes to this one from the anime than the first, which was fine because it worked for the film, but some things did get left by the wayside.

The Maze Runner

I literally want to go read the other books of this series now just so I know what happened after the end of this movie. Also, those monsters creatures were DISGUSTING. Like giant robotic spiders.

The Suspect
The Suspect(2014)

This definitely had a plot that's been used often (kind of Bourne for South Korea). A bit long with some unnecessary fight scenes, but still quite an enjoyable action flick overall.

This movie was certainly different, but I liked it for that. It was like an ode to science wrapped in action movie packaging. But most of all, imo, it was a superhero(ine) origin story. Pretty sure both Marvel and DC got scooped by not doing theirs first.

Rurôni Kenshin: Meiji kenkaku roman tan (Rurouni Kenshin)

This movie was perfect. The only disappointment was that Aoshi wasn't in it, but since he'll be in the sequels, I can deal with it.

Pacing and characterization were awful, while the story seemed like it could have been so much more. There were very amazing standout parts of the story but nothing ever came of them. All of the characters seemed to play one character stereotype and never became actual people. I've never read the book but I hope it was better than this.

Hilarious movie!

The Butterfly Effect

Be sure to see the Director's Cut. It ends way better than the theatrical version.

Beautifully made, wonderfully written, and excellently acted. All you could ask for in a movie. And the 3D was perfect! And I rarely like 3D movies.

Sherlock Holmes

An example of why these actors make the big bucks. The movie was good because Downey and Law were in it. Their on screen chemistry was great!

This is one of the weirdest movies I have ever seen. And I supremely recommend it.

Good movie, great action scenes, not so great ending

X-Men Origins - Wolverine

In a word: disappointing. I went in with great expectations and few of them were met. The ones that were met were because there were amazing actors in this film. Everything controlled by the writers, CGI people, and directors was...disappointing. They also tried to include and foreshadow way to many X-men characters in this one film, often changing and diminishing the importance of these characters.

S. Darko: A Donnie Darko Tale

Not a horrible movie, just woefully unoriginal. It was mostly a recreation of the first Donnie Darko tale, except with Samantha being Manipulated Dead instead of Living Receiver. It manages to not take a deeper look or question things the way Donnie Darko did, causing it to lack as a sequel. Much of it also seemed forced, although this is more due to writing than acting. The film did a have a nice look to it, it was just an unnecessary continuation.

Angels & Demons

This was one of the most horrible book-to-movie adaptations I've ever seen. Not only were characters removed and character parts changed, but none of the main characters were given any reasoning behind their actions. Everything that explained it in the book was not included in this movie. In fact, the best part of the movie was the setting.

Van Helsing
Van Helsing(2004)

The animation was okay, as far as vampire movies go. Hugh Jackman definitely made the film with his acting abilities. Although their Dracula was a good choice.

Finding Neverland

This was a BEAUTIFUL movie

Love the jail bird scene

Benny & Joon
Benny & Joon(1993)

This was too cute! A classic and original love story.

Ed Wood
Ed Wood(1994)

Weird. Just straight...odd.

Don Juan DeMarco

Too funny for it's own good

The Libertine

I LOVED this movie dearly. But it does include just about every moral vice imagniable, so be warned.

The Wiz
The Wiz(1978)

Horrible animations, but it worked for that time period. Besides, the music rocked!

Little Shop of Horrors

Talking, singing plant...what more is there?

The Brothers Grimm

Great, great movie! Can't go wrong with those two actors.

I like musicals...

Sleepy Hollow

More Mr. Depp, if you please!

Day-walking vamp killer who's also one of them...what more is there to say?

I LOVE the Underworld movies!

Always been a huge X-Men fan.

Very interesting and original

Secret Window

I'm so in love with this movie.

Tim Burton's Corpse Bride

Another awesome collabo between Mr. Burton and Mr. Depp.

The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen

This was so much better than I expected! I'd watch it over and over.
