interesting little movie

The Source: The Story of the Beats and the Beat Generation

Calamari Union

i rarely like finnish movies but this is great and full of attitude.

Watchmen
Watchmen(2009)

it's difficult for me to rate watchmen. yeah i loved the soundtrack, the movie was well made and had a lot of fascinating things and good scenes. and still it was too long, had too much and was maybe even too faithful to the original comic. and on the other hand, that's a good thing....and wathcmen is not a bad movie. i probably have to see it again to get a full picture but i don't know if i can sit through every damn scene of the whole three hours again. maybe i'll try.

La Moustache
La Moustache(2005)
½

i see this movie as a metaphor... but for what, i'm not sure.

Milk
Milk(2008)

a great biopic and a great movie. sean penn is amazing in his charismatic performance. milk touched me personally, for many reasons. but it's more, it's not just a movie about an openly homosexual politician. it's a movie about a man who changed life with his courage.
everybody, go see it.

Romance & Cigarettes

better than i thought. and what a cast! buscemi, sarandon, gandolfini, walken, parker.. lord. i liked the songs, i liked the cinematography. not a great story, but still. i liked it.

Camp Rock
Camp Rock(2008)

my eyes, they burn

Filth and Wisdom
½

i didn't expect much. i like gogol bordello's music and the frontman eugene hutz (playing main role in this movie) is a charismatic man, but thought of madonna as a movie maker wasn't very magical to me. but the movie suprised me. i loved it. it would've been nothing without eugene hutz, but with him it was great. i enjoyed, it moved me, it was entertaining and interesting.

Quantum of Solace

i'm not actually interested in bond movies, but my friend wanted to see this so i thought yeah, why not, i feel like going to movies (and next time i can choose the film..). and yeah, quantum of solace didin't give me anything, but i didin't expect it to. it is stylish, sleek and visually good. i liked some little things, and the cast wasn't too bad.

Silent Night, Deadly Night Part 2

oh good lord, this is honestly the worst movie i've ever seen. and i've seen many. but yeah, watching it on halloween night with a group of friends, drinking and laughing for its badness.... we somehow managed to watch it from beginning to an end. but it wasn't easy!

Monty Python and the Holy Grail

the humor of this movie was perfectly random and hysterical for me, and i enjoyed watching this with my friends.

Iron Man
Iron Man(2008)

robert downey jr was a big reason that made this movie if not very good, but nice to watch- he manages to make tony stark interesting character. it also had good humour and special effects, even though at times it was very corny.

The Seventh Seal (Det Sjunde inseglet)

scary and interesting, strong strong atmosphere.

Ghost World
Ghost World(2001)

Rain Man
Rain Man(1988)
½

touching movie, dustin hoffman is brilliant.

The Strangers
½

nice little thriller.
not often i've seen a good horror movie. this one was actually quite alright, i liked the intensity and the atmosphere. some parts i didin't like, some parts were very cool. i read some reviews here and many seem to think that the ending was cheezy. for me those mormon boys were nice detail.

Labyrinth
Labyrinth(1986)
½

i seem to have some kind of a theme to watch movies with my favorite rockstars lately... i bet i would have liked this as a kid. now the story didin't feel too great, but still the movie managed to entertain me quite well. mostly because of bowie, but i'll let the fangirlish things unsaid now... expect that... BOWIE.

Across the Universe

i loved the visuality and the music was good. great symbolism. i love the time, 60's, where the movie is set so i enjoyed it a lot.

Mystery Train
½

interesting, very jarmusch. the first story of the japanese rockabilly teenagers just was the most fascinating one and after that i just waited them to come back.

Waking the Dead

incredibly touching, good movie.

Evil (Ondskan)

suprised me positively. cruel story about violence which still succeeds to show hope, in friendship and few people's belief in justice.

Chasing Amy
Chasing Amy(1997)

great dialogue, as kevin smith seems to always write. funny, and a good story.

Natural Born Killers
½

good story, killer soundtrack. i wish quentin had directed this... but still, interesting disturbing film.

Hard Candy
Hard Candy(2006)

very intense, amazing actor work from both, allen page and patrick wilson.

The Dark Knight
½

this is what movie based on comics should look like, be like, sound like, feel like. great cast, very well directed so even the lenght doesn't ruin the movie. and though everybody knows that heath ledger did something amazing here, i got to say it one more time: his rolework was amazing, really.

oh, david. yeah that's prety much everything i have to say about it..

I'm Not There

i had to write new review because this movie has given so much to me it's difficult to explain. i love it, to me it's brilliant. the idea is very fascinating and works, soundtrack is terrific and all the actors do good work. i have to mention cate blanchett makes the most amazing role work i've ever seen and i'm ready to marry her, anytime. no, actually i want to marry her. NOW. i can quote everything she says in this movie from rote memory.
i don't know what bob dylan thinks about this movie, but i think he might appreciate it. movie from one dylanist to another and kind-of-biopic, but still just wonderful movie which i think anybody could love.
todd haynes, it's official. i love you.

Death Proof
Death Proof(2007)
½

you may say it's pointless or Q has lost his talent but i loved and enjoyed it, quentin is still my man. he respects women in his own special way, he loves movies and making movies with his whole heart and i seriously think he's the best movie maker of this generation.

½

awesome, touching and swinging story with phenomenal leading role, jamie foxx. i recommend, fan of ray charles or not. i didn't know much about him but after seeing this i became sure that i have to start listening his music.
not just music, but the movie is very entertaining and emotional at the same time.

Almost Famous
½

" They don't even know what it is to be a fan. Y'know? To truly love some silly little piece of music, or some band, so much that it hurts."
so much that it hurst, yes. i related to this movie. it was also very entertaining, nostalgic and full of good music.

Four Rooms
Four Rooms(1996)

clever, witty, little absurd. not for everyone but i liked it. and it had quentin!

The Last Emperor

a little disappointment for me, actually. very long and slow-paced but impressive visually and historically.

Shine a Light

the trailer made my cry. the movie made me smile for 2h 4min. i love rolling stones and Shine a light gets you so near them it was like seeing them live. Visually amazing, sound amazing, directing amazing, Rolling Stones - i don't have words.

The Deer Hunter
½

long movie with slow pace, but magnificent actor work makes it interesting. the start felt too slow for me, but russian roulette scenes were so well made they hurt to watch.

The Mothman Prophecies

i liked the idea, things like this fascinate me deeply. script wasn't particularly good but quite interesting movie still.

Romeo + Juliet

½

beautiful movie full of emotions. fascinating cinematography and shakespearish dialogue, sensitive and great actors. unique.

Beetlejuice
Beetlejuice(1988)
½

somehow very entertaining and cute.

No Country for Old Men
½

great, great actors and it has potential, a lot of it. but in the end it's boring. here - i said it. it's intelligent, characters are good and so is cinematography, coen brothers are good filmmakers but somehow this movie just didn't make me interested about it, it didn't blow my mind. it was slow and as i said, little boring. fascinating thing is, how it can be so strong and slow at the same time. i'm still not sure if i like it or not. film critics seem to love it, though.

No Direction Home: Bob Dylan

awesome and long documentary about legendary man of mysteries. maybe not for people who are not interested of bob dylan, but those who are, even slightest, i recommend. he's ultimately fascinating and scorcese really caught atmosphere of 60's and bob's earlier years. contrast between material of really young bob and bob of nowaday talking about his past is brilliant.

A Fistful of Dollars (Per un Pugno di Dollari)

i'm not so into these westerns but.... good music and cool clint.

Mystic River
Mystic River(2003)
½

great thriller with very strong actor work - especially sean penn is amazing.
i was little too young when i saw it for the first time and got really scared. i just watched it again and it's very powerful.

Disco Pigs
Disco Pigs(2003)

not brilliant maybe but it had its moments and some charm with very touching ending. good idea - but something just.... missed.

Magnolia
Magnolia(1999)

this movie broke my heart many times at once. it's full of emotions, desperation, sadness. and you can rarely see movie with so many actors and every one of them does fucking great job. stunning.

Stoned
Stoned(2005)
½

i didn't even know about this movie, then my friend said "watch this, it's about brian jones" and i did. because i love rolling stones more than any other band. i find movies about great musicians interesting. "stoned" wasn't particularly a great movie, but it had good sides and i enjoyed greatly watching it because it was about my favorite rock stars. not bad!

Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street

dark, ironic, very burton, fun. corny maybe and over dramatic but hey, entertaining and twisted. i enjoyed it. musical+blood=win. and depp rocks, again after horrible potc-movies.

Inland Empire

what can i say. oh david, you certainly make me confused. and i can't say that's a bad thing.
one of the most scariest movies i've seen. really, it's usual in lynch movies but particularly this made me feel a lot of fear. one reason is that i watched part of this movie after staying awake for 28 hours but it was quite a trip, inland empire kind of made a weird mix with my half-asleep mind. rest of the movie i watched completely wake but the atmosphere didn't go anywhere.

it's fascinating, it's interesting, it's surreal and full of fear. it's not understandable. but that's not the point.

Mou gaan dou (Infernal Affairs)

really good, great plot and acting. clever.

Juno
Juno(2007)
½

in its genre a wonderful little movie, so sympathic, simple, funny, clever... movie doesn't need to be 3 hours long and tell about drugs or oil or violence to be good or enjoyable. i liked juno and i think it deserves to be oscar nominee with all those Serious Big Films.

There Will Be Blood

maybe i didn't pay enough attention or something, because i couldn't find the greatness of this movie. yes, daniel day-lewis is awesome but movie was quite slow. i'll watch it again and try to understand better. but at least now i know a little what this oscar-nominee is about.

Dead Poets Society

this is maybe not the greatest movie of all, but i love its theme and it made my weep like a baby. lovely film.

As Tears Go By

not best of wong kar wai's movies, but still interesting and beautiful with fine music choices and actor work. i truly believe wong kar wai doesn't know how to make bad movies.

Happy Together (Chun gwong cha sit)

wong kar wai, i want you to know i adore you. i've seen many of your movies and still, again, fortunately, you broke my heart with HAPPY TOGETHER. thank you.

Little Miss Sunshine

refreshing movie, something different. bittersweet, tragic, fun. i enjoyed it.

The Science of Sleep

lovely movie with great visual things, but story wasn't as good as "eternal sunshine of spotless mind". but i liked the dreamy atmosphere and surreal stuff.

Notes on a Scandal

really good movie with amazing lead roles.

My Life Without Me
½

so sad it's hard to handle.

Frida
Frida(2002)

perfect in every way: colors, music, story. you can see how it's directed by a woman, and everybody should see this movie because it's about such a great woman. frida is something i can't watch without crying but still it's something i need to watch regularly because it makes me believe in some important things.

Shark Tale
Shark Tale(2004)

do they really think that kids want to see thousand movies about fish ? finding nemo was nice, though. but enough is enough.

True Romance
True Romance(1993)
½

great movie. script was awesome, who else could write dialogue like that than Q ? nobody. many good actors like christopher walken, brad pitt and gary oldman, also in a roles. amazing movie with violence and humor. this is about TRUE ROMANCE.

The Orphanage

Fine, dynamic film. Scary, but in the good way. Intensive.

Breakfast on Pluto

sweet drag movie, again. how i just love them.

Closer
Closer(2004)
½

closer makes me cry every time i watch it. why isn't love enough.

The Golden Compass
½

i like the books, though it has been years since i read them. i don't remember their plot so clearly anymore, but i remember the dark atmosphere. this movie was nothing like that. it had good actors, nicole kidman was great coulter and dakota made lovely lyra. maybe as a fantasy movie it's alright, but next to those books it was just too epic and dull.

Match Point
Match Point(2005)

i'm sceptical towards all movies by woody allen, but my friend bought me match point as present and said that woody or not, it's a good movie. and yes, it was. scarlett was fabulous and jonathan rhys meyers also good. there was something weird about development of relationships in the beginning of the film, but it got better and more intense. nice twists in the end.

2001: A Space Odyssey
½

i admit; there was so much i didn't understand. difficult and too long.

Taxi Driver
Taxi Driver(1976)
½

strong direction, strong actor work, fine story. i really liked taxi driver, even though i think its plot had some missing things - some reasons were not told. despite that taxi drive is a great movie, with brilliant tension. de niro is perfect and other actors, harvey keitel and young jodie foster weren't bad neither. really worth watching.

Sin City
Sin City(2005)

The Crow: Wicked Prayer

this wasn't SO bad... actually it entertained me, in some way.

Domino
Domino(2005)

i admit, i watched it only because keira knightley (ah, she was awesome-looking in this film) and bounty hunter theme. well, it wasn't so bad at all! interesting, not bad actors neither.

The Rocky Horror Picture Show

Strange? Maybe. Crazy? maybe. Fun? You bet. But also smart, sexy, groovy, cool and brilliant. And oh, what a great music! This movie is fantastic even after 30 years. And such a cult. Tim Curry's performance as Frank is something i can't describe with words. I've started to love rocky horror more and more, it's so many things.

Caché
Caché(2005)

no, really, maybe i'm stupid or retarted or something but i just don't get it why it's so good

Fight Club
Fight Club(1999)

Awesome movie. Brad Pitt and Edward Norton both do unbelieveble acting. One of those movies which made my mind explode. Fight Club is fucking great.

Kill Bill: Volume 1

Some people say, that Kill Bill shows how Tarantino lost his talent. Well, this was first of his movies I saw, and I loved it. I still do, very much. It shocked me but I enjoyed and felt something exciting. Plot is simple, but oh how good it looks. Q's ode to his favorite movies and in the same time genius film.

Lost In Translation

Lost in Translation might seem quite different than my other movie favorites. But it's really important film to me. I've felt so much watching it, I've learned so much, I've felt so related. It's about being lost, being alone, finding new world, finding somebody. I find Lost in Translation so moving, that sometimes I'm afraid to even watch it. This is beautiful, this is why I want to see Tokyo.

Pulp Fiction
Pulp Fiction(1994)

Pulp Fiction. I could talk about Q's work forever. Often the first thing people see is the violence. But I see so much more - brilliant stories, great humour, and spectacular dialogue. Pulp Fiction has all that, it's a cult. To me, this is the perfect movie.

The Prestige
The Prestige(2006)

Great and intelligent film. After this I totally felt like I've been fooled. Actors were all very good.

Battle Royale
½

Battle royal is a good movie, I think. It's not perfect and it didn't blow my mind, but it's clever and brutal. Plot's not fantastic, but idea is interesting.

½

2046
2046(2005)

So beautiful it hurts to watch.

Snakes on a Plane

it thought it would be fun to watch, but it wasn't. it was bad, really bad, but still not bad enough to be good, if you know what i mean. this movie tried too hard to be a cult, and you can see that.

The Machinist
½

dark, intelligent. christian bale was impressive, not only that motivation which made him lost all that weight, but his whole acting. this movie reminded me of fight club and memento, in a good way.

The Lost Boys

I think this is cool and funny, plot's not maybe marvellous but movie has its own charm.

Cowboy Bebop: The Movie (Kaubôi Bibappu: Tengoku no Tobira)

What a style! Great anime with really funky music.
