½

It's not a bad movie but the ending ruins it.

The Dark Knight

Overrated. You surely got a great Joker's performance and stuff. However, I still like Batman's & Joker's origins as told in Batman 89' much better. They were connected. Not only Nicholson's joker but everything in Tim Burton's Batman was way more comics-like. I honestly didn't like the fact they didn't provide in "the Dark Knight" an origin or motto to the Joker's existence. The female actress has gotten worse and worse, firstly with Katie Holmes and then this Maggie-not-as-good-looking-as-the-others... Four stars because it's been a great alternative way to portray Batman, the Joker and 2 Face. But if you read the comics and watch Batman 89' again I'm pretty sure you'll see what I mean.

Honestly, I prefer the Batman origin as told in the 89' movie much better. The link between Batman and the Joker (one created the other) is way more interesting; 89's story is more dynamic & comics-like than "Begins". Batmobile was REALLY a car and it still looks "wow". On the other hand, the "battank" is ridiculous, inconvenient and just doesn't fit in this new wannabe "sober" approach director's Bale tried to deliver. Thus "begins" is confusing and slow at times. It lacks a real good plot and the villains are not up to what Batman fans are used to. Yeah it shows Arkham Asylum but that just reinforces the fact that "Begins" tried to show everything, tried to be the definitive Batman origin and ends up on the surface delving little into Batman's mysteries and doesn't add much to what has been shown before on the other movies. In a nutshell, Batman Begins is grandiose. Ah... and I guess one last comparison is clearly inevitable, Kim Basinger is way more charming and interesting as reporter Vicki Vale than Katie Holmes's boring character. So I consider Batman Begins a poor effort to bring fresh air to the hero's filmography. Watch the 89' movie again, compare and you'll see what I mean. The standards of Batman in the modern cinema were definitely laid in Batman (1989).

That's ok. I just don't have patience for heroes anymore. If you do you may enjoy it better. Still, don't expect much to it.
