War for the Planet of the Apes

This movie was the perfect ending for what has become one of the best trilogies I have ever seen! Just seeing the apes on screen and forgetting that they are just CGI motion-captured characters is amazing to me! This movie was so full of emotion and shocking moments that it was hard to find a scene that didn't matter. Plus, Bad Ape supplies great comedy for an otherwise tragic story, and the filmmakers have cleverly found ways to tie this final prequel movie into the original Planet of the Apes.

Spider-Man: Homecoming

I had very mixed feelings on this one. As many know, Spider-Man is my favorite superhero. This movie has further made me believe that Tom Holland is the best Peter Parker and Spider-Man so far, and it was great that they incorporated RDJ as Tony Stark in this movie. Michael Keaton is also a great villain to an otherwise ho-hum gallery of villains from the Marvel movies. My main concerns came from how much they changed from the comics. I understand and appreciate that Marvel was trying to make a completely different story for this second reboot to make sure people weren't bored with it, but I wish they would have at least shown a short montage of his origin. It's too bad Marvel didn't get the rights from Sony before the Amazing Spider-Man movies so they could do the origin justice in the MCU. Still, this movies action scenes were pretty decent, and it might be the funniest movie the MCU has made to date. However, it may come as a surprise that I would say that this movie still isn't one of Marvel's best movie or even the best Spider-Man movie. I still hold the first two Sam Raimi movies with Tobey Maguire as the ideal.

A Cure For Wellness

Super weird movie! Not sure if I liked it or not.

Despicable Me 3

I still enjoy the first one the most, but this one was slightly better than the second. I really enjoy that this franchise focuses so much on family values and relationships. It was fun to see Gru and Dru play off each other, and the main villain was entertaining with his 80s flair. Plus, the minions are funny as always.

Cars 3
Cars 3 (2017)

I was a little nervous about seeing this one due to the failure of Cars 2. At first I thought it was an unnecessary sequel to make. But I was actually pretty surprised! It's a perfect companion sequel to the first Cars. In the first movie, Lightning is a rookie just starting his career, and in Cars 3 he is getting close to retirement and has to pass down the torch to a new car. Lightning and his protege have great, fun chemistry and it's rather touching. Plus, Pixar made the wise decision of not mentioning the 2nd movie in the series and keeping Mater's role to a minimum. I would actually say Cars 3 is my favorite of the franchise. Still not one of Pixar's best, but definitely a good addition to the Pixar library unlike the embarrassment of Cars 2.
