Absolutely brilliant film. Greatly enjoyed it. Im not often a fan of romantic-comedies but this had the barest minimum of sentimentality and mawkishness. Instead it delivered an original concept, plot, and narrative with humour, emotionality, and charm
The smaller set-pieces, like the interviews about love, the dance number, and the french film, were suitable, and not clichéd but genuinely entertaining. A wry look at film itself.
The music was brilliantly done, each song pretty much perfectly complimenting the scene.
It's the world's oldest story, boy meets girl...but this film delivers it in a new way. Discussing the parts of the story other romances won't touch. The fact the things you love can be things you hate. The fact that every silver lining has a cloud. The fact that sometimes things don't work out, and love was never love at all, not on all parts. But despite this, it still offers a generally positive message of hope - that sometime you just wake up, and you know....
I didn't want to see this film. I mean, I REALLY didn't want to see this film. I watched it. I loved it. Utterly hilarious all the way through, with Carell, Arkin and Paul Dano blowing my mind. Ending was rather weak, nearly cringe-worthy, but the rest was astounding.
Really funny, on the whole, with some dire bits, wonderful bits from Downey and Stiller, less so from Black, could never stand Coogan. The cameos were genius, in fairness. The parodies such as the fake adverts and the like were brilliant.
Get the DVD or look on the net for the MTV spot. XD
Difficult to get through, slow as a speeding snail, but fascinating in its scope and plot, directing and acting were excellent.
