A solid sequel that will please fans of the original. The additional backstory was compelling without dragging down the film. Legendary character actor Derek Jacoby adds additional heft to the project. The visual effects are proof that the model-building employed is much preferred over pure CGI. Watched on Blu-Ray upscaled to a 4K TV.
Solid and stylish, this title holds up well after watching 16 years after initial release. Beckinsale has that “it” factor that makes me tune into a genre I generally don’t watch. Due to the black levels of the film, watching on Blu-Ray much preferable over HBO Go (how I watched), which suffers from major compression issues in the darker scenes that the physical media does not.
The most pedestrian of entries from Team Blumhouse, who I generally am a big fan of. Was not a horror movie in the least. Lost the magic of the first one. More of a sci-fi comedy in the vein of Weird Science, which is a much better film.
Enjoyable “popcorn” film as my movie watching partner T-Bone says. Would have been way better if I hadn’t seen the preview, which gave away too much. Could have used more action scenes.
