The Brothers Grimsby
7 months ago via Rotten Tomatoes

A crude and generally disgusting film. There are actually a few laugh out loud moments but you're laughing because what you're seeing is just so ridiculous and vile that you feel you should do. Even if you do like the plot your main thought is "Why did Mark Strong agree to this"? There are moments that are completely ruined by the trailer and the action is ruined by the annoying shakey-cam. Sacha Baron Cohen knows what horrifies and disgusts people and this film is no different. It feels like they had a brainstorming session and put any 'gag' they found shocking and then tried to find a way to get the brothers into that situation. Mark Strong's acting is great as he sells the annoyed brother very well. Rebel Wilson's Grimsby accent is laughable and of course there are the usual fat jokes that are HILARIOUS(!)

Goosebumps (2015)

Takes far too long to get into the main part of the story and Jack Black's acting is fun but ultimately distracting. The effects are done well and it's a good story for anyone who is a fan of the books. There are some nice moments of 'breaking the tradition' of heartfelt and courageous moments but the ending feels rushed and just like someone pressed a reset button.

Zoolander 2
Zoolander 2 (2016)

Surprisingly funny throughout. The plot is obviously just stupid and the acting is totally hammy but there are a loads of "ha" moments. Kristen Wiig is brilliantly panto in her role and steals every scene she's in and the cameos from numerous celebrities was great. This sequel was actually better than the first as they really went over the top 'spoofy' but is nowhere near the genius of The Naked Gun films.

Deadpool (2016)

Brilliant. The fourth wall breaking is by far the best parts of the film and the pisstaking of the actors and studio were excellent. The plot is fairly thin but the flashbacking from the action scene rather than making us wait for the "origin story" is done to great effect. The acting is simple really - you can tell the actors enjoyed the roles they were in - especially Ryan Reynolds. The jokes are great throughout with only a couple not really landing and a fair few on the same sexual subject. The Ferris Bueller call back is done brilliantly as is all the references to the X-Men franchise. Great fun!

Room (2015)

Well acted but doesn't use William H Macy to his full potential. The story is clever and the claustrophobia of Room is portrayed well. The only disappointing part for me was that we don't find out several things about the kidnapper but I've been told that the book is from Jack's point of view which would make sense when transferred to the screen. Brie Larson and Jacob Tremblay are superb in this and Brie Larson well deserves her Oscar nomination.
