Movie Ratings and Reviews

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen

Very disappointing. The "comedy" bots were atrocious and the plot was poor. Left a bad taste in my mouth, especially since I enjoyed the first one.

For some reason, I've always liked this movie.

The Nanny Diaries

An interesting look at the nanny concept. Well done. Made me want to read the book

Love Actually

Liked some of it, but definitely needed editing for decency.

Sleepy Hollow

Ick. Creepy and yucky. Thought it sounded cool, but I couldn't get past the witchcraft and body parts.

Very cool premise. Wahlberg was awesome and really pulled off the character.

Interesting premise. Otherwise, kinda goofy.

OK, the effects look dorky now, but c'mon, it's a classic. I had to watch it.

Becoming Jane

I am a HUGE Austen fan and so it was neat to see her life story. It's mostly accurate, somewhat sad, but as good as any of her stories. What a life.

P.S. I Love You

OK, it was sentimental and sappy, but it made me bawl. I can imagine the pain of going through what she went through, and the fact that he went to so much trouble is touching to me. A chick flick, but enjoyable.

Step Up 2 the Streets

The story was kinda dumb but the dancing was pure adrenaline! I would love to dance like that. Their final dance blew me away and was worth watching the movie just for that finale.

Stomp the Yard

The dancing was unbelievable. Sweet!

Bella (Beauty)

It was good, but not what I expected. The ending was touching.

This was very cool. A little editing, but mostly it was great. Strong characters, interesting plot, and a crazy ending. I liked it a lot.

The Other Boleyn Girl

Depressing and disgusting and sad. The movie looked sumptuous, but the story was terrible, even if it was true.

Iron Man
Iron Man(2008)

I loved it!!! Downey Jr. was just absolutely perfect for the role, and the suit...well, the suit was a highlight for me. I just wish they'd shown more of it! I loved watching it move and adjust. AWESOME. Want to see it again!

Terrific premise and very cool effects. I enjoyed the way it changed my imagination's perspective of time and space.

Be Kind Rewind

This had me laughing. Some editing required, but still something about its quirky optimism was enjoyable. I liked it.

Miss Potter
Miss Potter(2007)

FANtastic! I love Beatrix Potter's books, and this movie was a terrific blend of her life and her perspectives. Mostly factual, it was entertaining, clean and fun.

Better than I expected! A believable look at what the future could hold, and how a brave man tries to defy expectations and overcome prejudicial limitations. Also a study of people and their motivations, which was interesting.

Galaxy Quest
Galaxy Quest(1999)

Cheesy but still quite fun and quirky, especially if you're a sci-fi fan.

Vantage Point

Awesome concept, cool action, plenty of twists, fun movie!

Unexpectedly raw and intense.

Man of the House

Cute and corny. Tommy Lee Jones has an old-fashioned charm that enjoy.

10,000 B.C.
10,000 B.C.(2008)

Just wanted to see the sabertooth tiger. Which was AWESOME. Can't say much for the rest of the movie...

The Three Musketeers

Good performances from the cast, which makes for a fun and swashbuckling movie.

Balls of Fury

Offbeat but somewhat funny. Plot was watery but the craziness made up for it, at least in part.

Almost Famous

Strangely haunting. I actually enjoyed most of it, although there are moments that should be edited.

Planet of the Apes

Still interesting after all these years. Charlton Heston is incomparable, even in a goofy movie like this.

Interesting, with good effects, but a little but of a weak plot.

I actually loved the twists in this and loved the computer-related plot. Remember, this was when the Internet was just emerging, so cut it some slack. I enjoyed it thoroughly.

Live Free or Die Hard

I haven't seen any of the other Die Hards but I loved the grit and the action and the madcap pace. Willis rocks!

What About Bob?

Hilariously funny and outrageous!

That Thing You Do!

A terrific movie! The soundtrack rocks, the story is fun and the characters are lovable.

Shrek the Third

Terrific and funny. Animation was quite impressive.

Facing the Giants

The acting was sometimes stilted, the story was a little predictable, and yet I loved it! It was encouraging and inspiring and had some great life lessons. It stayed with me long after the film ended.

Alex Rider: Operation Stormbreaker

The books are better, but the movie was great too!

The Hand that Rocks the Cradle

Creepy and disturbing, but a great movie.

Roman Holiday

A classic! Peck and Hepburn - does it get any better?

Slap Shot
Slap Shot(1977)

Umm...had to watch it because it was hockey. Needs a LOT of editing, but it had a few moments.

Fun and frisky. Paulie has an attitude.

Young Frankenstein

Freakishly funny and iconically crazy. Look at the cast, and you'll get the idea...

A fun fairy-tale romp complete with good guys, bad guys, love, ghosts, and royalty.

Beautiful, though not completely historical. A wonderful portrayal of a great horse and his men.

Sky High
Sky High(2005)

Wow, actually quite cute and funny. Had fun with it.

Always thought it was creepy.

Good Morning, Vietnam

Some racy language, but Robin Williams is incredibly funny and dynamic.

An incredible portrayal of Ray Charles' troubled but powerful life.

Singin' in the Rain

INCREDIBLE!!! A must see. Kelly, O'Connor and Reynolds are awesome.

Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World

Disappointed the first time, but it grew on me.

Stuck on You
Stuck on You(2003)

Terrific! Funny and awkward and sweet.

Uncle Buck
Uncle Buck(1989)

Needs editing, but the raccoons make the movie...

A classic inspirational sports movie. Loved it!

The Ultimate Gift

I really enjoyed it. Drew Fuller did a pretty good job at pulling off the transition and Abigail Breslin put in a spectacular performance. Clean, with a good message and a timely reminder for all of us of what's truly important in life. Remember to look for the gifts we have.

Moulin Rouge!

There was something about it. Obviously the premise was not good, but the singing was beautiful and it had a strange, other-worldly feel to the style. Interesting if nothing else.

Open Season
Open Season(2006)

Disappointing. Previews were good but the plot was unfortunate. Kutcher was annoying as Elliot and I only liked the annoying bad guy when I found out Sinise did his voice. No way!

The Green Mile

Unexpectedly heartwarming, chilling and heartbreaking.

Lucky Number Slevin

Wow. A bit hard to follow, but the ending made it worth everything. Never saw the twist coming...but then, I'm slow when it comes to those things. :) Loved the reversals and confusion.

Phone Booth
Phone Booth(2003)

Strange but interesting. Surprisingly heart-pounding. Needed a lot of language editing, though.

The Mask of Zorro

Funny and dashing. My kind of movie! Hopkins and Banderas were incredible together.

Wow. Spectacular and intriguing. Loved the stylized and beautiful cinematography, amazing martial arts, and twisting plot.

Kind of cute. The talking animals were pretty good looking and there were some laughs.

I Am Legend
I Am Legend(2007)

Incredibly disappointing. The previews rocked and I looked forward to seeing this, but found myself still waiting for the story to begin when the movie ended. Wha-? I must have missed something because it was just randomness - a guy living alone. Whoop.

The Brave One

Heart-jerking, emotional ride with a surprisingly satisfying ending. It caught me off-guard and really made me think about how I would handle such an awful situation - how would it change me? Unsettling and gripping.

SWEET! Did not expect to love this movie as much as I did. The story was simple but the action was spectacular and Agent 47 was easy to empathise with. Loved it!

The Game Plan

Blah. The plot was weak, the characters were stiff, the comedy was predictable and I was not impressed. There were a few laughs but overall it fell a bit flat.

A pretty decent movie about a difficult time. Some of the situations were adult topics, though.

27 Dresses
27 Dresses(2008)

I actually liked it more than I expected - and I wanted to see it for quite a while! It was sweet and not too ridiculous. I like Heigl anyway, and it was just a fun flick.

Definitely, Maybe

Boring, and kind of sad and messed up. Didn't really like it.

August Rush
August Rush(2007)

Strange movie. It was pretty good but not at all what I expected and so I wasn't sure what to make of it.

Not knowing anything about the story, I really loved the movie. Don't take it too seriously - but other than that, it was a great ride with the fast-paced action and ridiculous scenarios I love!

Get Smart
Get Smart(2008)

I enjoyed it more than I expected. A few off-color references but otherwise, the comedy was right up my alley and it was a great movie!

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull

I wanted to love it, and there were certainly things to love about it. But it's been too long since Indy was around, and compared to the other movies, it fell a bit flat. The plot was creaky and the skull was simply ridiculous. Even so, the ending was satisfying and overall, it was worth a watch.

Not exactly what I expected, but still fun and humorous. Pretty good show.

Hotel Rwanda
Hotel Rwanda(2004)

Moving, heroic and inspiring. Under horrific circumstances, it shows clearly the strength of the human spirit.

3:10 to Yuma
3:10 to Yuma(1957)

This story has clean lines yet builds the characters with such complexity that it keeps a viewer at the edge of their seat, waiting to see what they'll do next. It's a movie of honor and doing the right thing whether others do it or not. Yes, the ending was happy and maybe worked out too well, but its marching cadence leads steadily to the climax and was quite fulfilling.

As You Like It

Incredulous in Shakespeare's quirky way, yet still charming and fun. Loved it.

3:10 to Yuma
3:10 to Yuma(2007)

Compared to the original, it made less sense with pointless action and overblown plot. Lost the quiet beauty of the old version. Yet Crowe was much easier to look at, LOL!

Curious George

Better than expected. They made it funny yet kept the feel of beloved George in the books. The plot was dumb but otherwise it was a cute movie.

Wild Hogs
Wild Hogs(2007)

So disappointing I don't know where to start. The comedy was flat and the plot was...wait, was there a plot? It kind of meandered. Shoulda been great, but it was kind of just lame. Wish I hadn't wasted my time.

Amazing Grace

A powerful movie about Wilberforce, a force to be reckoned with who never gave up his life's driving fight against slavery. Eye opening and well crafted.

Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason

Better than the first. However, I really didn't like the first that much, so...

Blue Crush
Blue Crush(2002)

Two words: Lame-o. But seriously, I liked the fact that they worked so hard to make it real, and I also liked the girl-power in it. Very cool to see the real surfer women on the waves.

Charlotte's Web

I LOVED this book as a kid and the movie was fun as well but fell short of the book, of course. Not quite as good as I'd hoped, but still a good family film.

Because I Said So

It could have been decent, maybe even good, if it weren't so yucky. Needs to be cleaned up in a big way to be watchable.

Ocean's Thirteen

Loved it! Better than 12. Funny and witty, and the bad guy got his dues so it was fulfilling as well. :P

License to Wed

The premise is great! The follow through not quite as good as promised.

Kind of fun with lots of energy, but I just couldn't get over the freakiness of Travolta as a woman. Eeww.

Not at all what I expected. Hitchcock never ceases to amaze me!

We Are Marshall

Wavering between heartrending and heartwarming, it was a pretty good movie about the true life events. I thought they portrayed the pain and loss and tough choices as well as can be expected.

Racing Stripes

Amazing animal acting combined with some pretty darn good computer animation to make them talk. Fun, though thoroughly ridiculous, story.

Home on the Range

I admit it, I got a few laughs. Worth checking out if you like animated flicks.

Blades of Glory

While it still had some inappropriate areas, it was better than expected and actually had some heart in it as well as some laughs.

Ghost Rider
Ghost Rider(2007)

Bleh. Hard to make it much lamer.

Lady in the Water

Actually way better than I expected. If you like fairy-tales with unexpected twists, give this one a try. Parts were slow and a little boring, but I love Shylaman's ironic humor and that made the whole thing work.

Employee of the Month

Slightly better than I expected, but still prettty dumb.

Fun and over the top. Pretty likable, even if it's a little crazy.

Happily N'ever After

Good, but it had unrealized potential. It was funny and I loved the premise, but I just never bonded with the characters for some reason. Kinda flat.

Not as bad as I feared, not as good as I hoped. The suspense was pretty good but after a while, I zoned out because it went on and on.

High School Musical

Had to see what the hype was about. Maybe I'm a little too old for it. I do confess that I loved the singing and dancing. I only wish I could be a part of it!

Something about this made me love it. When I think back, I have no idea what it was, but I really enjoyed this movie. The Transformers were sweet, and the action was pretty cool. The plot was a little lame-o, but the scenarios they got into were funny.

Cute and fun. Pretty funny. I enjoyed it.

Ever After: A Cinderella Story

Every time I watch this movie I love it more. It is sweet and touching and the characters are interesting and lovable (or hateable as the case may be).

The Legend of Zorro

I love Zorro and Banderas was perfect as the masked man. An odd twist with his son, but overall still an enjoyable romp.

Lara Croft Tomb Raider - The Cradle of Life

Better than the first, though still pretty silly. If you can let go of yourself and just go along for the ride, though, it's worth a watch.

A well-crafted idea, and some of the action was pretty good, but something about it just wasn't satisfying. Also needs some editing.

TERRIBLE. I love historical films but the plot was boring & confusing, there were too many naked butts, and on and on. Parts of it I tried to like, but it was really not something I should have wasted 3 hrs of my life on.

Planes, Trains and Automobiles

Somewhat funny with some editing. The ending was rather touching.

Fell just short of Gladiator's towering stature, but still very good. Interesting, good fighting, with even a bit of romance thrown in.

Man of the Year

Williams shined. We need someone like this to run for office, for real. Interesting conundrum in the plot, and good ending (though I wish he'd actually become president.)

Dan in Real Life

Actually a good movie. Although some say it's unrealistic, it was still a fun glimpse into a family and a relatiionship.

Bridget Jones's Diary

So-so. Strange girl and two guys. Couldn't get into it, as much as I love Firth and Grant....

Stranger Than Fiction

TWO THUMBS UP!!! One of the most creative plots and most visually interesting movies I've seen in a long while. What an amazing idea, and what exciting concepts it opens up!

The Prestige
The Prestige(2006)

Wow. A bit disturbing because of the lengths they went to, but overall quite interesting and mind-bending. Unfortunately, someone figured out the ending before the ending...but still, great movie.

The Holiday
The Holiday(2006)

If you can get over the fact of the immorality, it was a great love story and interesting plot.

The Number 23

A weird and twisted psychological thriller. Didn't like the unrated version but otherwise, there were a lot of interesting twists.

I confess there were a couple funny parts, but the language was foul and overall there was no plot. If you like non-stop senseless action you might enjoy the ride.

Blazing Saddles

OK, it's a classic so I finally saw it. Very funny, in parts. Dealt with tough topics like racism with suprising comedic agility. Hats off to Brooks.

The Good Shepherd

I love Damon, but this was confusing, boring and depressing.

As a Star Wars fan, it was a pretty funny farce.

Despite some early bad reviews, I thought the ending was a great thought-provoker. Really made me stop and think. I liked it more than I expected to.

Chasing Liberty

Very blah. Interesting premise but just missed the mark somehow.

Me, Myself & Irene

Hilarious in parts and very inappropriate in parts.

Pearl Harbor
Pearl Harbor(2001)

Not sure of the historical accuracy, but it did make me think about our soldiers and what they go through for our freedom.

The Break-Up
The Break-Up(2006)

Not a great movie, but the ending surprised me.

The Bourne Ultimatum

Cha-ching! This one was too similar to the second installment, but even so, I loved it! AMAZING ending.

Fight Club
Fight Club(1999)

Wow. Powerful and strange and mind-bending, like an out-of-body experience.

Déjà Vu
Déjà Vu(2006)

An intense ride. I loved the story line and the twists and turns of the plot. Well crafted!

I expected to hate this movie. I usually do because the girls are either wimpy or too macho and either way are not relatable. But this was amazing. Gracie was a real kind of girl, tough but not a guy. Great story, very touching to me personally.

Good and intriguing, but not as good as I was hoping. I guess I had my hopes too high. Even so, an interesting concept and fun to think about. Spurred deep conversations afterward.

Hot Fuzz
Hot Fuzz(2007)

Silly? Absolutely. Outrageous? Of course! And fun and crazy to boot!

Terrifically fun and hip. Made me wish I were still in a band! Drummers are cool. :P

Dead Poets Society

So it was a classic and I wanted to see it. Very powerful story, but slow-moving.

I Am Sam
I Am Sam(2001)

It made me cry. Good representation of an autistic man and it made me think about what life would be like with autism. The ending was perfect - as good as could be expected.

The Illusionist

Well crafted and thoughtful. I enjoyed it thoroughly, and wanted to watch it again as soon as it was over.

Disappointing. Boring and dumb. The previews looked cool.

Into the Blue

Better than I expected, actually...but I confess, it was mostly because Walker looked very good. :P The underwater action was sweet, though. Can't imagine what it would be like to make a movie like this.

Lara Croft - Tomb Raider

About as good as you'd expect. Jolie was actually cool and it was fun, though silly.

Catch and Release

Very strange and quirky, but an interesting ride.

The Silver Stallion (The Silver Brumby)

I had a horse and it had Crowe, otherwise...

Flags of Our Fathers

A bit difficult to follow, but worthy story.

Cold Mountain

Sappy and bland, but with a couple redeeming points.

Demolition Man

Better than you might expect, but still cheesy.

Mona Lisa Smile

Interesting but not that great.

You have to watch this at least once. It's required.

Perverted and funny. A culture classic.

Shall We Dance

Deeply moving if you've ever been in a relationship. A terrific story of love, life, and moving on.

Field of Dreams

Although farfetched, it fulfills that secret dream of all sports fans.

Star Wars

A sci-fi classic of all time. What can I say?

D3: The Mighty Ducks

Worth watching if you're a hockey fan. I would say it's the second best of the trio.

To Kill A Mockingbird

An amazingly powerful and thought-provoking classic. Peck is imPeckable in his portrayal of this subtle story.

A pretty fair adaptation complete with some great and lusty songs.

FernGully - The Last Rainforest

Bad memories of this film from childhood.

Terrific storyline that makes me want to cheer and be a better person.

Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves

Not a favorite of mine. Too many other great Robin Hood movies that are far more worth my time.

The Prince & Me

Pretty good. Stiles and Mably do the flick justice.

Beverly Hills Ninja

I have a fondness for Farley because of my brother...I confess, I liked the ninja music too...

The Devil's Advocate

Couldn't finish it - it was terrible in multiple ways.

Paris Je T'aime

A very strange story with a lonely ending.

I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry

Not sure about historical authenticity, but a well crafted, moving story set within the heartrending events of 1941.

Mr. Bean's Holiday

Saw it despite heavy peer criticism, and was deeply disappointed despite the historical setting.

While it wasn't pure movie magic, it had redeeming value, namely the lesson.

Rescue Dawn
Rescue Dawn(2007)

Better than expected in a quirky, fun way. So over the top, I kinda dug it.

Great in the footsteps of Gladiator's greatness. Not quite as good, but very well done and very moving.

Chariots of Fire

Hadn't seen it in a while. Well crafted tale, and the music is to die for. Inspirational.

HILARIOUS couples' movie. I laughed through most of it.

The Pursuit of Happyness

Wow, sure made me count my blessings. Also inspiring to go out and DO something.

The Queen
The Queen(2006)

Not as good as I expected, but still worth a watch. It focused on a single instance in the Queen's life rather than an overview as I expected.

Marie Antoinette

It was well done and sumptuous. The story-line meandered a little, though.

Take the Lead

It was good, but not spectacular. Had some language and the plot was a little flat. Step Up and Shall We Dance? far outstripped it. Banderas was the only saving grace. :)

Watched it again and it's even better than before. I love this movie!

The Sentinel
The Sentinel(2006)

Disappointed by the affair, but otherwise the plot was twisting and the action was fast-paced. OK, but not great.

The Departed
The Departed(2006)

As a movie it was pretty well done, but personally I disliked the excessive violence and langauge. The ending was incredibly powerful, though.

The Guardian
The Guardian(2006)

The ending was sad and not unexpected - it was the only way out, really. But, it was cool to see what the coast guards go through in training and in their work. I have new respect for all those men & women.

Transporter 2

Excellent action flick. Love Statham's character. This one was even better than the first one.

Little Miss Sunshine

Terrible. Thumbs DOWN. Foul and stupid and dumb. Not worth your time.

A great "western" story about the special bond between a man and his horse, set in the Middle East. Mortensen was great, and so was the horse! Loads of fun if you love "underdogs" as much as I do.

The Nativity Story

This was actually an incredibly thoughtfully crafted movie. Well acted, well shot, well handled. It made me think about things I had never thought about before - like what it really must have been like for Mary, like the sacrifices Joseph made... Excellent movie.

One Night With the King

It was better the second time through, honestly. I really loved the visuals of the palace - wow. The acting was pretty decent, actually, but there was still something missing. Something didn't quite work, but even so, it was a great movie and still an amazing story, all the better because it's true.

Worth watching if just for the sake of thinking about what African American forbears endured. A moving story of humanity's deepest need - freedom.

The Shawshank Redemption

I have rarely seen a movie as unique and deeply impactful as this one. It stayed with me long after the credits rolled. Definitely worth a viewing, but watch out, the language and content is a bit rough.

Kangaroo Jack

Terrible. If you want to laugh, you'll probably not want to watch this. This movie is more likely to produce repeated groans than any true chuckle. Painful.

Antwone Fisher

Heartfelt and powerful. A moving drama.

Meet Joe Black

Curious twist at the end. Intriguing storyline. Good movie.

Just My Luck
Just My Luck(2006)

I actually loved it! Thoughtfully crafted humor (and yes, some slapstick thrown in there too).

My Super Ex-Girlfriend

OK, I didn't expect much but it was actually cute and fun. Worth a watch if you have a free hour and a half.

Glory Road
Glory Road(2006)

I loved the triumphant feel. The struggles they faced really made me think. Great job with the casting and great performances.

Coming to America

Funny with unexpected bits. Some innuendo.

The Man in the Iron Mask

I shied away because of the DiCaprio factor, but when I finally watched it, it was actually a decent movie.

A story of loyalty above all that is kind of touching - even from a dragon.

Patch Adams
Patch Adams(1998)

A happy/sad movie that is emotionally charged. I liked it, but it was draining.

Blade Runner
Blade Runner(1982)

A cyclical thought-provoking film. Well crafted but with a low-budget feel.

Cute in a giggly-girl kind of way. Paxton is incredibly cool despite the fins.

Two Weeks Notice

No big surprises here. Boring, predictable plot.

Inspector Gadget

As dumb as expected. Go into it for dorky fun and you might like it.

Once upon a Time in Mexico

NOT good. Depressing, gory, and foul.

Around the World in 80 Days

Silly enough to be riotously funny! I love Chan in this. It's in the crazy, goofy action style of Shanghain Noon.

The Last Samurai

An against-all-odds heroism and a glimpse into zen-like-peace, not to mention the theme of how people can change, were the only redeeming parts. Hidalgo did the whole remorse-filled life better, though.

Funny, when it avoided being dorky. I enjoyed the hokey emotions and theme of belonging.

Enjoyable in a strange, familiar way. Like hanging out with a good friend, with no plans.

Tommy Boy
Tommy Boy(1995)

LOVE IT!!! In my opinion, the best of Farley's movies. Touching, gut-splitting and goofy in the way only he can pull off.

The Blues Brothers

FUNNIEST MOVIE EVER. If you like Aykroyd or Belushi's comedy, this is an all-time classic MUST SEE.

The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy

Better than expected! I actually enjoyed it. Thought it was OK when I first watched it, but thought back fondly for long afterward.

The Mighty Ducks

Funny despite itself. I have to cheer for the motley hockey crew.

Jingle All the Way

Yeah, I know it's a Christmas story, but it is still belly-laugh hilarious!!!!

The Fox and the Hound

Always made me cry as a kid. Sad, but good.

Lost In Translation

Surprisingly BAD. Boring, confusing, and just depressing.

A Knight's Tale

Naked Bettany buns and dorky love scenes? Um, no thanks. Pass!

Dennis the Menace

Dennis is annoying. But sometimes kinda funny. Only sometimes.

A Little Princess

Excellent movie, though it always makes me cry.

O Brother, Where Art Thou?

An odd movie that seems sometimes non sequiteur, but funny in parts.

The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants

Compared to the book? Bland. As a movie about friends? Passable.

Peter Pan
Peter Pan(2003)

Better than I expected. I loved the characters and the dream-like realism of Never Never Land. Far outstrips previous Pan versions.

The Wedding Date

Surprisingly funny and enjoyable. Some innuendo, which spoiled it, but the relationship wisecracks were riotously funny.

28 Days
28 Days(2000)

A fairly decent portrayal of addiction, forgiveness and real change.

Captain Blood

Love the swashbuckling antics of Flynn!

Must Love Dogs

So-so. Kinda cute but cheesy.

Little Women
Little Women(1994)

I loved the book and while this wasn't quite as good (movies never are) it was still very enjoyable.

Ernest Goes to Jail

My favorite of the Ernest films. Lovable ol' Ernest gets into wacky situations - who can resist laughing?

Interesting concept, but disappointing follow-through.

Seven Brides for Seven Brothers

A classic! The songs are genious and I love the dancing.

Quirky and mind-twisting but superbly engrossing. LOVED it!

Nacho Libre
Nacho Libre(2006)

Dorky, yes, but somehow ingratiating. Better than expected.

Love Comes Softly

Not as good as the book, because everything changed, but still slightly enjoyable.

Love's Abiding Joy

Touching, but too unlike the book to really be enjoyable after reading the terrific story.

Love's Long Journey

Although different than the book, this movie spoke to me in a profound way. I liked it.

Love's Enduring Promise

I loved the book, but the movie was quite disappointing. Everything changed, including the plot, character names/ages, etc.

Just Married
Just Married(2003)

Funny and dumb in equal parts, with some innuendo. Loved the ending, tho.

Down With Love

Entertaining story, but full of innuendos. Stylized 60's feel was different and fun. Definitely a quirky movie.

One of my favorite animated flicks. The familiar story is told from multiple perspectives, giving a fresh look at a familiar tale. The comedy is potent and non-stop! Check it out!

Pirates of the Caribbean: At Worlds End

Although long and a bit slow in parts, this trilogy-ending outdid Dead Man's Chest, in my opinion. There was some weirdness, but that was expected, right? And even I wasn't sure how they could wrap up so many storylines satisfactorily, but they did a super job. The ending especially fit well, not leaving it in a depressing light, but looking forward and maintaining the lovable status-quo. Well done! I loved it!

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest

The first viewing had me laughing at parts but left me feeling a bit disillusioned. I found myself thinking back on it fondly, though, and it improved upon further viewings. It's always tough to follow up a blockbuster of such magnitude, but aside from a few weak scenes, they did very well on this one!

Sydney White
Sydney White(2007)

I absolutely LOVED it!!! It was better than I expected. Sweet, with a fun fairy-tale twist and a triumphant, albeit predictable, ending. Amanda Bynes shined as an every-day girl trying to find her place, and the goofball humor had me laughing all movie long. If you are looking for a fun, uplifting flick, definitely check this one out.

Inside Man
Inside Man(2006)

This was a great movie. Creative, classy, a battle of wits...but did the best man win?

Good Will Hunting

Although the language was pretty rough, the story is worthwhile.

The Island
The Island(2005)

This was a GREAT movie!!! Fast-paced and riveting. Would you make it if you had no clue about normal life?

The Aristocats

So cute. The cats are adorably spunky and mischievous.

Gone With the Wind

Forever a classic. But be prepared to sit for a while, because it is awfully LONG.

The Flintstones

I confess, there are parts of this movie that are entertaining. And I thought Barney was cute. Even so, not on my top 10 list...

The Little Rascals

Fun family movie without much plot.

Dante's Peak
Dante's Peak(1997)

It was pretty fast-paced and enjoyable, yet not exactly scientifically accurate...

Funny as all get-out, but has a few off-color areas, of course. Very hilarious spoof!

Super Size Me

Eye-opening - a must-see. Well worth the time. Even so, there are some gaps in his scientific proof, and I still love french fries. So sue me.

Kingdom of Heaven

Boring and bloody. There were some redeeming points, but I don't remember what they were so they weren't that good.

The Brothers Grimm

Pretty good for a fantasy flick.

I liked the action (as opposed to vampires sucking blood all movie long) and also liked the idea of werewolves vs. vampires. Cool concept. Even so, the movie was blah.

The Full Monty

Hilarious, but obviously not a good premise. Nudie-patootie is a factor. NOT a family movie.

Casino Royale

Better than the others? I can't say - I haven't seen them. It was an OK action flick, but nothing to write home about.

Violent and somewhat confusing. Not that good, although an interseting story.

Thumbs down. Boring, confusing, and very dull. Did I mention boring? I couldn't even stay awake through it and I tried two times. Something about the oil industry, I think???

Good, but not great. More focused on the fight than I thought. Loved the triumphant ending and portrayal of a good but troubled man getting his life in order to make something of himself.

Ladder 49
Ladder 49(2004)

A gripping human story set in the everyday drama of firefighers' lives. Heartbreaking but warming. Made me appreciate rescue workers far more than I ever have, and realize what they really do for us, putting their lives on the line every single day.

Rocky Balboa
Rocky Balboa(2006)

Way better than I expected! This is the perfect way to end the Rocky series with a look back, a look forward, and a better understanding of Rocky - legend and man. Especially great because we were in Philly just before we watched this.

Man on Fire
Man on Fire(2004)

A sad look at a man on a mission. The ending was heartbreaking but the characters were powerful.

Jerry Maguire

Finally watched it because it was so popular. The story was actually better than expected, as well as the acting, but the language was not good.

Guess Who
Guess Who(2005)

A fresh look at love and in-laws, with social commentary that gives interesting perspective without being overbearing. Enjoyable laughs that anyone who has been in a relationship can apreciate!

A Lot Like Love

Far better than I expected! Despite a couple brief scenes that would have been better left out, the plot twists and turns as quickly as the characters' fates. A satisfying and enjoyable romantic comedy!

Blood Diamond

Despite the violence and language, this is one of the most powerful stories I've seen of late. Packed with emotional turmoil to go with the physical turmoil of the civil war, the themes of loyalty, friendship, family and love are stretched to their limits and back again in a satisfying conclusion.

Children of Men

Recommended by my brother, but not quite my taste. Still, an interesting and disquieting concept which was well-rendered.

Changing Lanes

A disturbing look at the things people do to each other by serving their own interests. Yet, the ending redeems the movie.

Better than expected, with an intriguing story-line and some decent action.

The Story of Robin Hood and His Merrie Men

My favorite of all the Robin Hoods, with the possible exception of the Errol Flynn version. An excellent romance and adventure story, with solid doses of humor and nothing foul. First rate!!!

Something about this movie has always captured my imagination. Maybe it's the vulnerability of Ivanhoe as he battles life-threatening wounds, the love triangle between the woman he loves and the woman who loves him, or the inherent coolness of the arrogant knights bent on killing him. I don't know. But I do know that this movie is one of my favorites.

The Wedding Planner

Cute romantic comedy. In my opinion, it's better than average for its humor and lovable characters.

My Fair Lady
My Fair Lady(1964)

I inherited the love of this movie from my mom. The songs are absolutely contagious and you can't help but love Hepburn as she struggles to become the lady she always knew she could be.

Cary Grant and Audrey Hepburn together - I think that says it all. The suspense will keep you at the edge of your feet and I'll bet you'll never see the final plot twist coming! Not to be missed!!!

The Adventures of Robin Hood

One of the best Robin Hoods you'll see. If you love classic Errol Flynn or classic Robin Hood, this one is for you!

Robin Hood: Men in Tights

As far as cheeky, cheesy humor goes, this movie may take the cake. You'll split your sides laughing at the non-stop puns and blatant, irreverent wisecracks.

The Italian Job

You want action? This movie is packed with action. After being double-crossed, this classy gang of thieves comes up with clever ways to keep the movie moving. The Mini Cooper chase scene is exhilarating!

The Princess Bride

If there was ever a perfect fairy tale, without a doubt this is it. Complete with cliff climbing, romance, torture, swordfights, secret identities, true love and rodents of unusual size, this terrific tale is unequalled.

Batman: The Movie

Cheesy, yes. But if you are a kid at heart, these guys are utterly lovable. It was my favorite movie through half my childhood!

Sleeping with the Enemy

A tense look at an abusive relationship. Scary to think about the people for whom this is reality, but as a movie, it was suspenseful yet oddly disappointing.

Erin Brockovich

Interesting in that it was a true story. I also liked that the real Erin was interviewed and sported a cameo appearance. All-in-all, though, a little slow for my taste.

Saving Private Ryan

One of the best war movies I've seen. A powerful tribute to the armed forces. Spielberg's handheld filming makes one feel that they are right in the midst of the action, which is terrifying and gut-wrenching. I have redoubled respect for veterans and current military personnel because of the reality of this movie.

Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind

The story is oddly intriguing and touching. It's filmed in an unsettling abstract form, yet manages to convey powerful emotions. Raises thought-provoking questions.

The Importance of Being Earnest

Hilarious and witty! Despite some liberties that are strikingly silly, the dialogue and plot are irrisistable. My personal Wilde favorite.

An Ideal Husband

Although perhaps not Wilde's best, this is a witty and fun romantic comedy full of Wildesque twists and turns.

Black Sheep
Black Sheep(1996)

As dorky and lovable as all the Farley films. Not quite to the well-rounded level of "Tommy Boy", but features some key scenes no Farley fan will want to miss!

Anna and the King

A notable remake, though despite the lovely scenery and great storyline, I missed Yul! If you liked the original, you'll want to give this one a shot.

Space Cowboys

Who says they're over the hill? A story of second chances, filled with humor and even a happy ending.

Office Space
Office Space(1999)

Some inappropriate language and situations, but anyone who has ever worked a job, especially an office job, will find plenty to laugh about despite the corny ending. The quotes are priceless.

Very strange, although better than I first expected. Deals with prejudice and hypocrisy in an unusual way - at times it seems tinged with a surreal aspect, almost like a fairy-tale.

Grosse Pointe Blank

Quirky but fun! The plot is imaginitive and has built-in interest.

How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days

The sheer dedication they have to their own agenda, despite the other's opposition, makes this a funny flick. I laugh every time I watch it!

The Pacifier
The Pacifier(2005)

I can't say I expected much, but Vin Diesel proves his adaptability and pulls off an enjoyable performance as a tough SEAL-turned-babysitter. Sometimes corny, but still lovable! The absurd contrast and his intense approach to the job makes it even funnier than expected.

Step Up
Step Up(2006)

Surprisingly heart-warming and bittersweet, with awesome dance sequences and an ending that will make you want to cheer or cry.

Return to Snowy River

This movie is a great follow-up to the "Man From Snowy River", but focuses more on the rocky romance and the relationships between the people. It still has some incredible horsemanship, and some horse sequences that will nearly have all horse-lovers in tears of happiness.

The Man from Snowy River

If you love horses, romance, scenery, and horses, you'll love this movie as much as I do!

Stick It
Stick It(2006)

Gritty, sassy and energetic! Peregrym managed to balance the toughness with the vulnerability to make her character believable and lovable. The gymnastics sequences made me want to get back in the gym! More importantly, they were well-blended to make the action look real.

The creative storyline could have made this a great movie, but as it was, it was disappointing and predictable.

This was a strangely haunting film, but also thought-provoking. Somewhat a heavy film, along the lines of "A Beautiful Mind", but the story drew me in. I had mixed emotions at the end.

Night at the Museum

An enjoyable romp as history literally comes alive. I've always dreamed of interacting with historical characters, so I loved meeting Teddy, Sakajawea, Attila and all the rest. Enough humor to keep it light, and enough action to keep it interesting. Yes, there is some corniness, but not enough to ruin the fun, IMHO.

A Beautiful Mind

This is a well written biography of John Nash. It manages to take the viewer into his world and through the emotional journey he and his wife are thrust into. It's a deep, heavy subject, but rewarding and triumphant nonetheless.

Cool Runnings

Uplifting and HILARIOUS!!! Time after time, this movie has me laughing and cheering for the Jamaican Bobsled Team and their heart.

Rain Man
Rain Man(1988)

At once heartwarming and heartbreaking, this movie is worth at least one viewing. Hoffman was great. His portrayal was inspired. Cruise's character changed too abruptly and radically to be quite belivable, but still managed to be touching. The entire performance manages to give the emotional impact of the love and the struggles that are inherent within a relationship with an autistic person, and showed how love can change people.

Les Miserables

While it was severely abridged, I loved the look and feel of this movie. The story, of course, is timeless, and Neeson did a great portrayal of Valjean - indeed, all the cast was terrific. The ending took a slight detour, as the reviewer points out, but still left me wishing there was more to watch at the end.

Better than expected. The characters were well-rounded and human, and the action managed to be fairly seamless and cool. Loved the futuristic feel. Hated the psychic stuff.

The Scarlet Pimpernel

Intrigue, passion and swordfights plus a strong historical plot and subtle wit make this movie a must-see. As soon as it's over I always want to watch it again!

Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl

The humor, strong characterization, exciting plotline and way-cool visuals blew me away the first time I saw it, and it just never gets old. Depp's performance is especially unforgettable, and you'll be quoting the one-liners long after the movie's done.

The Phantom of the Opera

Boy, they can sing! The music is inspiring and haunting, like the tortured phantom behind it all. Like the theatrical version, it leaves the viewer with an emotional attachment and sense of triumphant sadness. Well portrayed. Three thumbs up!

While You Were Sleeping

Romantic comedy and sentimentality at its best! It's light-hearted and fun - easy to relate to - and has a happy ending. Who could ask for more?

Despite the intrinsic violence, the powerful acting and strong storyline lift this movie to epic proportions. One of my all-time favorites!

Pride and Prejudice

Far and away the best P&P movie adaptation. In my opinion, it is also one of the best movies ever made.
