Not very many of my friends can say that they went to see this in the cinema, but that's exactly what I did in 1981. And the effect was thrilling. The 'futbol' scenes were so impressionable on me. Nevermind that Pele's presence in the film is thoroughly incongruous: Caine shines and even Stallone isn't half bad as a keeper. I wanted to play soccer after seeing this film...

The Big Lebowski

The film for the 20th and 21st century 'everyman'. An urban-Thoreau, The Dude is interested in a good bowling game, a nice rug that "ties the room together", and the occasional herbal supplement. Simplicity, we've been told, is beautiful. But it's pretty damn funny too...

Fall in love with one of the most memorable characters created in the last 10 years...

Peter O'who? So began O'Toole's iconic screen career...reaching his apotheosis in 'King Ralph' opposite John Goodman. Seriously folks, this picture inspired Stephen Spielberg's own film career. The scenes are epic and grandiose. The acting, top-notch, and the effect is a sunburn. Required viewing indeed.

The stunts on the Swiss Alps: Iconic and ground-breaking. This has it all...and not until Daniel Craig was a Bond so plausible 'fit' to play 007. Trivia: The ONLY Bond film where Agent 007 beds 5--count 'em--5 Bond-babes...and is still able to get married by the end!

When my literature class of emo-flunkies rates this B&W 1957 Shakespeare film over Branagh and Gibson...you know something's special about it. Kurosawa was never better and Shakespeare was never dignified as much on screen. Sorry Ken & Larry!
