Dorian Gray
Dorian Gray (2009)

The latest attempt to bring Oscar Wilde's "The Picture of Dorian Gray" falls short. I will admit that Victorian London was recreated fairly well. The acting, however, could have been better. The only performance I enjoyed was Colin Firth's portrayal of Lord Henry. The rest of the cast didn't seem to put much effort into the venture. While Ben Barnes looked the part, he showed the emotional range of a teaspoon. I really wanted to enjoy the movie, but it just fell short. It did, however, make me want to read the novel again.

Law Abiding Citizen

As someone who studied the justice system, I found the topic of this film interesting and thought provoking. While I can't agree with Shelton's actions, I tend to agree with his hatred of the hypocrisy of the justice system. The acting was great, especially from Butler and Foxx. The violence was a bit much at times and some of the facts were over dramatized. Overall, an interesting movie that is definitely worth watching.

Hiroshima (2006)

A great production from the BBC. It covers the events from the testing of the bomb in New Mexico to the tragic aftermath in Hiroshima. Interweaving reenactments with actual footage made you feel you were experiencing the events yourself. Watching the aftermath was very emotional and makes one hope that something like this will never happen again. In addition to the great reenactments are fascinating interviews with people involved with the event, which helps you understand both sides. A great documentary that you should not miss.

Gamer (2009)

A grim look at a possible future where gaming is taken to a new level. A majority of the movie is spent in a live action version of Counter Strike where Gerard Butler channels Leonidas in 300. There is a slight story hidden in all of the action that is summed up in the last 15 minutes (I think they forgot there was supposed to be something besides action). The funniest moment was when Michael C. Hall lip-synchs Sammy Davis Jr. and has mind controlled back up dancers. Overall, a lackluster action movie that fails to actually have a message.

Bitch Slap
Bitch Slap (2010)

It's so bad, it's almost good. Well, maybe not. I think this was trying to be an homage to other movies, but is just an exploitation flick. While there is eye candy aplenty for guys, the dialog is gag inducing. The fight scenes are over the top and are only missing mud. There are a couple surprising cameos of Lucy Lawless and Kevin Sorbo. Overall, a movie better left unseen.
