mildly amusing

Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa

In a lot of ways this is actually better than the first one. the humor is brilliant and the characters are not quite as anoying (mostly alex, who seems to have grown up)

this guy is not messing around! it was just a little short

The New World
½

a vastly undervalued, touching, and beautifully photographed film.

Confessions of a Superhero

kinda pathetic and depressing

Super Size Me
½

now that is comitment

Sleepy Hollow

It would have felt more personal had tim burton stuck wtih the original story. there needed to be a larger struggle between Ichabod and "Brom bones" who only had a very small part. Ichabod Crane is also supposed to be a school teacher, not a forensic scientist. In the stage production the horseman only targets Ichabod's school children (on his own accord; no one is controling him) adding to the chillingly gruesome effect.

On the other hand the film is increadibly visual, and on that level it is up there with Burton's best work.

Shattered Glass
½

creadible performances all around; especially Hayden Christenen

What About Bob?
½

warm, fuzzy, and full of chuckles

Mortal Kombat

they overplay the theme song. some of the fights work great, others not so much

Bulletproof Monk
½

catchy title - not so catchy movie. the unlikely combination of characters just doesn't work: a genocidal Nazi looking for imortality, the daughter of a russian moffia convict, a lusty human rights executive, an american pickpocket, a Japanese man who owns a Chinese theater, and of course Chow Yun-Fat as a tibetan monk (here is the cliche) protecting a scroll. i guess i just wasn't expecting an action comedy

Daredevil, Vol. 1: Guardian Devil

This isn't a movie, its a graphic novel by kevin smith. brilliant work by the way

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
½

so why is everyone bashing this movie so hard? sure its not Raiders, but its still a good eddition. the first part of the movie has some great ligit action but it gets a little carried away with the cgi later on, which is what i was afraid of. It is entertaining and its definetley Indiana Jones, though it did fall short in some areas. At this point another sequal is out of the question.

Capricorn One

reminds me a lot of Dan Brown's Deception Point.

Hellsing I

The Hidden Fortress (kakushi-toride No San-akunin)

Okay, so Star Wars is not really based on this movie, though George Lucas dose admit to borrowing a few ideas from it. I have heard rumors of a remake. I think it stands fine on its own without star wars or a remake.

Billy Budd
Billy Budd(1962)
½

a young naive sailor meets the harsh realities of the real world aboard a British naval vessel. Claggert is the ultimate antagonist

The Medallion

jackie chan yet again teams up with an obnoxiously ignorant side kick

THX 1138
THX 1138(1971)

It amazes me that this movie is next to unheard of, considering it was the sci-fi adventure George Lucas made prior to Star Wars and that we see the THX logo in front of virtually every movie we watch these days. Lucas shows us his raw talent as a briliant filmaker without the use of CGI. the photography and editing are increadible, and both deserved Oscars. However, it does not surprise me that they did not recieve them. why? anyone who knows much about George Lucas will tell you he is a rebel and was trying to break away from corporate hollywood, frustrated with the lack of creative freedom, around the time he was making this film. Its interesting because that is exactly what this movie is about; being unwillingly controled and monitored.
By todays standards, it has a very slow pace, but i recomend it to anyone who has been influenced by Star Wars

Intelligent

Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story

though in some parts it is obviously stylized a bit, this is an inspirational story about the legendary martial artist, Bruce Lee, and how he overcomes personal demons and racial prejudices.

The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor

When i first heard about this movie i thought "what the heck? Jet Li and Michelle Yeoh in a mummy movie? maybe they are trying to recreate a temple of doom thing or somthing." I thoroughly enjoyed the first mummy and the second one was alright, but this was terrible. A bad actress playing Eve, terrible effects, an excuse to throw in 3, obviously computer generated, yetis, and finaly Jet Li transforming into a three headed dragon and a beast that looks like somthing from "where the wild things are" all boils down to a big cheesy mess. there is no such thing as a Chinese mummy. China and the mummy franchise, though great seperatley, simply do not go together. All i can say is that it has been a bad a year for Jet Li, first the Forrbiden Kingdom and now this. . .shame shame. it's also official, i hate Rob Cohen

Letters to Santa: A Muppets Christmas

the muppets yet again deliver a fun christmas adventure in this holiday special

Across the Universe
½

it seems like they stretched the story a bit to accommodate all the beatles songs but all together a musically and artisticly well done film. you don't see movies like this everyday

The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian

its way too long with not much going on. a bit of a let down from the first.

Waterworld
Waterworld(1995)

the bad guys are a bit silly but all in all its a great adventure. look for jack black in a small non-speaking part of a pilot, but he's hard to recognize - his face is covered in soot.

The Age of Innocence

a complex character driven story. personaly. i would be more attracted to winona ryder than Michelle pfeiffer. . .

Twilight
Twilight(2008)

i have mixed feelings. . .

Enter the Ninja
½

it takes you in a direction that doesn't quite belong in a ninja movie

Kung Fu Panda

jakie chan should have had a larger part.

Inherit the Wind

although it is biased, it really makes you think

The Simpsons Movie

i think they picked a good topic, but they should have pushed it a bit farther, but what did i excpect? im not a huge simpsons fan, but i felt they did a great job: plenty of laughs and a realitively good story line.

After the Sunset

mediocre capper, though there are a few unexpected supprises

Runaway Jury
Runaway Jury(2003)

excellent support cast, a tense bathroom scene between Dustin Hoffman and Gene Hackman will leave you speachless, though it is not my cup of tea it is one of the better courtroom-thrillers i've seen

The Terminal
The Terminal(2004)

Kagemusha
Kagemusha(1980)

this film is not for everyone. you have to put in some effort in order to get anything out of it. but, if you do it will be worth your time.

Liar Liar
Liar Liar(1997)
½

who serves drinks before take-off?

Sergeant York

allow some time to get into it in the beggining

The Forbidden Kingdom

i was expecting a heck of a lot more from Jet Li and Jackie Chan teaming up. the story was way too americanized with karate kid meets west side story meets kid in king arthur's court. i kept watching, waiting for it to get better, but it never really does. the movie is really quite simple and silly, but not cheesey; which means its not even worth laughing at. now Jet Li and Jackie Chan do get to fight each other, which is definetly the highlight, and possibly the only really good part. Jackie Chan does a decent job playin an imortal drunk, but it seemed like Jet Li was completley out of it. as a side note there are some interesting hair styles: Jackie Chan has some wild dread locks, the monkey king look like somthing out of planet of the apes, and this evil chick with really long white hair. . .

Troy

½

Wolfgang needs to make the odyessey with sean bean returning as Odyesseous!

Star Wars: The Clone Wars
½

ok to start off lets just say it does not exactly kick ass so dont go to the theater with that expectation. but, that being said, it can still be very enjoyable. the pilot to the new tv series on cartoon network is just that. it has a heavy cartoon network/ saturday morning style. the music takes an exciting and somewhat exotic turn than what we have heard from john williams. Anakinks padawan is absolutley adorable, and so is Jabba the hut's son lol. dont expect to hear the voices of all our favorite star wars stars, what with ewen mcgregor claiming he regretted being apart of star wars all together and the other stars continuing on to other things. However, the more seasoned, loyal actors samuel l. jackson, anthony daneils and Christopher Lee remain loyal. two highlights of the film include a verticle battle and the climatic remach between duku and anikin on tatooine. over all i look forward to the series, but i am especialy looking forward to the live-action show and i hope Lucas has a greater influence upon that one. rated pg for brief language and momentary smoking? what?

Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind

this movie proves that jim carrey doesn't need wacky facial expressions to hold a solid performance. its a great movie, it reminded me a lot of another jim carrey movie: the Truman show

Man on Fire
Man on Fire(2004)

the jumpy editing gets anoying but it is a good touching story. dakota fanning is amazing as always

The Dark Knight

will the real batman please stand up? this is it baby. but this doese not discredit tim burtons 1989 version, jack nicholsons performance in that film, or the new direction batman begins took the franchise because this film is all about the joker. but thats no surprise since we have been salavating over the pictures of ledger since they were relesed nearly six months ago, and on top of that his sudden death could only boost the sucess of the film. and heath ledger delivers. he nails the character in every direction and in every way, he becomes the luatic pshyco path killer maniac, and on top of that hes actually funny. . .in a quirky, desturbing kind of way. The interigation scene: THE BEST INTERIGATION SCENE IN CINEMATIC HISTORY! I think it will be one of the most memorable part of the film. and even though it wasn't advertised, there is another villan: two face. i found his story line to be a fasinating one to follow. but as far as batman goes, well to be perfectley honest i was not that imprest. whether its because the character has been done to death or the filmakers were more focused on the villans, somewhere along the line his character was dropped a little, so they could have done some more with him. I also think they could have tied up the ending better. over all the dark knight is awsome; easily the the best film of the year and arguably the best comic book best comic book film ever. i think that would be great if the acedemy made a posthumous oscar for heath ledger

Lost In Translation

i think it was artisticly well done, but the story could have been more focused. . .

Lost Treasure

it starts out as a buddy cop and eventualy turns into an almost interesting treasure hunt

The Elite
The Elite(2001)

uh oh counter-terrorism has been left in the hands of a bunch of pretty boys

Amblin'
Amblin'(1968)

before man-eating sharks, dinosuars, and aliens, spielburg shows us he doesn't need a big budget, movie stars, or dialogue for that matter to tell a good story.

Sons of Provo

10,000 B.C.
10,000 B.C.(2008)

a simple story about a man trying to protect his people that takes place in one of the few areas left unexplored by hollywood.

Hancock
Hancock(2008)

i was a little hesitant to go see a non-marvel superhero movie, but i went because some friends were going. and it actually starts out to be pretty cool. the original idea of a super hero who does not feel apreciated and turns to drinking was kind of interesting but then it suddenly twists into another direction that was so unexpected it didn't feel like it belonged in the film

Raw Deal
Raw Deal(1986)

watchable gangster-action flick

Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within
½

how come they always kill off the funny guy everyone likes?

Meteor
Meteor(1979)

yet another post-star wars attempt at a space adventure. not even sean connery could save this one. watch armegedon instead

The Count of Monte Cristo
½

Excellent film, i actually liked it much better than the book. Although the book dose have a much deeper and more complicated plot, i found the movie to be much more exciting mostly because of the characters. For instance Dantes revenge on Fernand is much more personal because he was once his best friend, in the book he is barely an aquaintance. And Jacopo, though a smaller character, i think most people will agree he brings a lot to the film by being the count's loyal companion and is a very likeable personality, but he is only mentioned once in the book. Over all the movie does a great job of adapting the main points of the book and condensing it into a fast paced, edge of your seat film. If you dont have anything else to read right now it is one of the best classics i've ever read.

National Treasure: Book of Secrets

Disney has some serious sequel issues. . .seriously it bored the crap out of me

Robin Hood: Men in Tights

maybe not mel brooks' funniest film but it never stops being fun.

Hero

Jarhead

½

i think people should stop killing people over oil. lets switch to hybrid!

Ultraviolet
Ultraviolet(2006)

the movie is visuall pretty, smooth, and sleek, a little too much so. however, this is justified by the societies fear of jerms. the comic book style action that pushes cartoony i found to be very exciting, but most people im sure will find it fake and cheesey. all in all its awsome eye candy with amazing choreography and cinematography.

Spanglish
Spanglish(2004)

quite tastefull and touching, even for adam sandler, who belive it or not, is a pretty likeable guy when he is not being crude pushing vulgur. on the other hand the script should have been more focused

ahh back in the day when the opening credits were longer than the closing...

Home Alone 4
Home Alone 4(2002)

there is a complete new cast in this one(again). the bad duo(marv an his wife) are poorly casted. the actor playing marv acts a lot more like Ernest, and one look at the villaness should prove that her acting capability does not exceed jr.high. I am actually quite impressed with the kid who plays kevin; he handles the part very well. but the only actor with any credability what so ever is Eric Avai who play the butler. this time kevin visits his his dad and step mom at a luxurious smart house, only to find marv and his wife ploting to kidnapp a visiting prince; natrualy no one belives him. unfortunatly the 4th instalment brings little originality to the table. over all it is a slow-paced film which lacks the the charm of it's predessesors, which, as far as i can tell is due to the absense of screenwriter John Hughes and a half-way decent budget

The Undefeated

an unlilely entertaining western

Stardust

The Fourth Wise Man

High School Musical
½

ok so i finnaly decided to watch this just to see how over-rated it actually is. 25 year olds acting like 15 year olds for 5 year olds. where is the mentality here? I hate it when disney trys to recreate high school, because the middle-age directer packs it with "cool" cliches. The whole "Vanessa" scandle destracts from her over all performace. the film might be the best disney channel movie, but the fact that it is so over rated makes you want to hate it more. However the film does do a good job at conveying it's message: be yourself.

National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation

one of the better national lampoon flicks

Shrek the Third
½

i know what you are thinking. . .crude, right? actually there is not much more crude content than what is shown in the trailer. come to think of it there isn't much more content than what is shown in the trailer period. sequals in hollywood are rarely any ware close to as good as the origional because it lacks the originality of the first. shrek the third lacks the freshness of the first and the humor of the second. so does shrek the third really deserve 3 thumbs up? you decide.

Beethoven Lives Upstairs

just about as classic as james bond gets

Casino Royale
½

casino royale is the original bond novel, but it is almost nothing like this movie which happens to be an unfunny spoof. even die hard bond fans will find it hard to digest.

Moonraker
Moonraker(1979)

some say this was the worst film in the franchise, it does not maintain the original bond quality, however roger moore makes if fun and funny

Diamonds Are Forever
½

really cool car chase in down town vegas

Live and Let Die

Spider-Man 3
Spider-Man 3(2007)

can they live up to the expectation? can they beat the previous film? will they be able to squeez 3 villians and a good love story into it? can they pull it off? these are questions i asked myself before i saw it. although it is not perfect with a few silly ideas and not as good as the first 2, you will not be unsatisfied by the time you walk out. the thing that keeps it going just like the other films is the indepth characterization. you want to see this, trust me. (this one might just set a box office record)

An Inconvenient Truth

"this is not so much a political issue as it is a moral issue" this is the scarriest movie you will ever see. contains the same science that is used in the day after tommarrow, only this is not fiction
