Movie Ratings and Reviews

I liked it until the extremely hokey cop-out of an ending. The only worse Nolan movie is Insomnia, and this one could cure that for many people.

Man of Steel
Man of Steel(2013)

Best Superman movie I've ever seen, and I own them all.

Iron Man 3
Iron Man 3(2013)

A great look at what it means to be a hero, and deal with the effects of all that entails, with the backdrop of a militant enemy attacking. Tony Stark cannot and will not call on any of the others from the Avengers at this time in his life, until he deals with the stress that he is dealing with, and you can feel it throughout, as we go on that journey with him.

The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus

Meh.. haven't seen many of Gilliam's films, but after this, I still only prefer one: Monty Python and the Holy Grail. This film meandered around so much, it was ridiculous. It also reminded me of a much shorter film I saw this year, called "Bearskin." It, too, featured Tom Waits in pretty much the exact same role. Disappointingly drab.

Marvel's The Avengers

Everything I've always wanted to see in an Avengers movie, brought to life in a way I only dreamed it would be. Absolutely incredible! Superb!

The Muppets
The Muppets(2011)

Best Muppet Movie in YEARS! Also one of the best movies I've seen this year. It's hard for me to want to actually see anything else while this is still in the cinema.

Super 8
Super 8(2011)

Super8 is not only true to the Amblin name, it's also one of the best films I've seen in years. Thank you, J.J. Abrams!

Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides

Excellent Pirates movie. A return to a simpler storyline style of the original and the start of a new adventure.

Kung Fu Panda 2

Better than the first, it is closer to Pixar quality than anything that Dreamworks has yet made.

X-Men: First Class

Great film, and a terrific look back to the beginning of the X-Men. I look forward to future films in the First Class series.

Awesome movie! Definitely puts Thor into the line-up of Marvel heroes that is joining The Avengers. It was a great introduction for those that don't know anything about Thor, and for those that do, it was very entertaining. It has a lot of moments of levity and incredible special effects. Hope they do a sequel in addition to The Avengers.

Four Stars for Bill Murray's performance, and the Ghostbusters scene.

The Social Network

Good, but not my style of movie. I saw it once, and that was enough for me.

Tron Legacy
Tron Legacy(2010)

Waaaay better than the original... but not as good as The Matrix, which it looked like from time to time, regarding the costume design... and virtual world (which isn't really original to the Matrix either, but not done as well).

The Green Hornet

It was goofy and fun. A bit too much swearing for my taste, but it had the potential to be completely awful, which it wasn't.

Toy Story 3
Toy Story 3(2010)

The best of the three Toy Story films, and a fitting conclusion.

Ramona and Beezus

A great mother/daughter movie.

The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader - I loved this movie. I think it's the best of the three films.

Shrek Forever After

A fitting finale to the series, though I thought of a better ending while the movie was going on that would have brought back the villains from each of the previous films, to team up against the villain of this one, but it does the job.

Iron Man 2
Iron Man 2(2010)

Better than the first, reminded me of Spider-Man 2 in that it was both superior to the first and enhances your enjoyment of the first.

Robin Hood
Robin Hood(2010)

Very dark, very grim and gritty, to a fault. The very last scene should have been the start of the film.

How to Train Your Dragon

Not as good as Kung Fu Panda, but Dreamworks is definitely starting to get better. The big puppy dragon that the boy finds is hilarious like a puppy. Trying to get its' nose into your face for attention.

Turtles Forever

Looked totally awesome. Has a great cast. The problem is that they didn't get anyone from Pixar to go over the story to be sure that it has legs.

Where the Wild Things Are

Very cool movie that isn't really for the young. Much of the film is about the perception of the audience, leaving things open for discussion or your own version of what happens beyond the story. Like the book, the audience is left to fill in the blanks, allowing the film to avoid cliches when they could have resolved everything. Filled with wild things and wild moments, as well as very subtle moments and direction, the acting of young Max really carries the film, as we see it not only through his eyes, but also the eyes of his mother.

Land of the Lost

Unnecessarily vulgar. Not at all in the spirit of either tv incarnation.

One of the best movies of the summer, and highly underrated.

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen

Not as good as the first one, sure, but I still loved it. The fighting was incredible, Optimus Prime rocks. While the film was a little flawed, I'm still giving it a full five stars out of five, because it managed to resemble episodes of the cartoon, by having the robots actually communicate, and it surprised me more than a few times. Not only that, but it was everything it set out to be. A fun summer movie that doesn't seek to be any more than it is. It's based on action figures, remember. I could have done without the swearing, and the sexual jokes / content, though.

Brilliant. Pixar does it again. Fun, heart warming, surprising and creative.

Star Trek
Star Trek(2009)

Seeing as it was the first Star Trek anything that I actually paid attention to, I think I've just been set up for disappointment. Not because this one was so good, but because, I assume, it makes everything else look so bad by comparison.

I blame J.J. Abrams and his team for making Star Trek something that I would watch. Thanks a lot.

X-Men Origins - Wolverine

It's not without its' problems. Too many establishing shots that are just as long as the scenes they've established... or longer. I really did enjoy it for the most part, though. I loved the cameos and I didn't mind some of the changes... but I did wish they had stuck more to the Origin comic book miniseries.

Quite good. Had elements of the first two Toy Story films, but in the end it was fun and entertaining.

Star Wars: The Clone Wars

The animation may take some time getting used to, and the script may be a bit cheesy at times, but as the start of a TV series, it was more than adequate. I really enjoyed it's fast pace. I might have taken some points off for some nit-picky things, but that would be ridiculous: this is to start a TV series, and isn't really a feature film anyway. And it was funny, because during the movie, I thought it felt like an episode of Avatar the Last Airbender. One of the Avatar writers was the director! Go figure.

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull

It was interesting and fun. Very lighthearted and kinda cheesy at times. It was also true to the Indiana Jones mythos.

Kind Hearts and Coronets

Alec Guiness impresses by playing not just one or two, but eight roles.

Hot Rod
Hot Rod(2007)

A lot funnier than I expected. A little wrong in parts, but most of the humor is disarmingly original.

The Water Horse: Legend of the Deep

Very good movie. One of the best of 2007. It's a story about dealing with loss and grief and definitely entertaining. From the director of My Dog Skip.

Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium

Fantastic. One of the most original movies I've seen in years. Don't by into anyone that tells you otherwise. The acting is fantastic. Everyone is great. See it!

Bee Movie
Bee Movie(2007)

Hilarious at times, normal at other times. Very Seinfeld, needed more jokes per minute.

Bella (Beauty)

One of the best movies of the year, everyone NEEDS to see this. Everyone.

Road to Bali
Road to Bali(1952)

Hilarious and random at times!

The Simpsons Movie

It was hilarious but had too much crude humor that was unneeded. Without two things in particular it would have been funny all throughout. It's a shame that they had to ruin whole portions of the film.

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix

Another Harry Potter film that I'll actually own. So far, I own Prisoner of Azkaban (the only other good Harry Potter film thus far) . I really enjoyed it, and am looking forward to the next couple as well.

This was a fantastic movie! A very simple movie with a simple story that you can cherish.

Totally awesome. Makes me want more Transformers films right this moment. I want to see the Autobots establish a base and have the focus on them a lot more next time around.

Bridge to Terabithia

One of the best films of 2007. Don't believe the marketing. Just see it, whatever you do. If you think it's going to be like Narnia, and that's why you're seeing it, don't bother. It's not like Narnia at all. It's really an adventure of its' own, and worth owning. Be sure to watch it with your kids, but watch it first.

Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer

Fun movie, better than the first. Needed a little bit more.

A Mighty Wind

Absolutely hilarious. And it's all improv.

What About Bob?

One of the best movies ever made.

Grave of the Fireflies (Hotaru no haka)

One of the most heart wrenching WWII movies ever made. And it's animated.

Evan Almighty

I saw a test screening of this film. It is very good. A lot funnier than the trailers.

My Neighbor Totoro

Awesome movie about family.

Life Is Beautiful (La Vita Ť bella)

You must see this movie. It will change your life.

Batman: Mask Of The Phantasm

It was the best Batman movie until Batman Begins

The Muppet Christmas Carol

A favorite holiday tradition of mine. Fantastic Muppet Movie!

Singin' in the Rain

One of the best musicals ever made. Everyone should see it!

Saving Private Ryan

Should have won best picture. One of, if not the best, war films of all time.

Beauty and the Beast

One of the best Disney films of all time!

The Matrix Reloaded

Would have been great but for the rave/sex scene.

Chicken Run
Chicken Run(2000)

Classic Aardman! "Oooh, what KIND of pies?"

The Village(2004)

The power of love and what it drives us to. Fascinating.

Another great one from M. Night.

A great superhero film, love the simplicity of it.

The Sixth Sense

A thrilling film from start to riveting finish.

Toy Story 2
Toy Story 2(1999)

Even better than the first!

Toy Story
Toy Story(1995)

Fun, something I wished happened when I was younger.

Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind

How far does technology go before it goes too far? Take a look inside.

Big Fish
Big Fish(2003)

Life is full of stories. This shows how much stories can influence us, but also make life more of an adventure.

Back to the Future

Pure fun Time Traveling action.

Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi

This one was my favorite growing up. Love the greens of Endor and the Luke/Vader fight on the Death Star II.

Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back

This one has a lot of heart and (after the special editions) is less claustrophobic than it used to be.

Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope

The original, the one that changed film forever. Great adventure.

Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace

Psychological drama. Below the surface politics with amazing visuals.

The Princess Bride

Magical. A great film that I have watched hundreds of times, and can watch over and over.

The Shawshank Redemption

Gripping from start to finish. Great story, great music, great film.

The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King

The greatest film "trilogy" of all time. Period.

The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers

The greatest film "trilogy" of all time. Period.

The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring

The greatest film "trilogy" of all time. Period.

The Karate Kid Part II

The lessons continue here, and we can all learn something from it!

The Karate Kid

So many lessons to learn from Miyagi. What a great movie!

Ghostbusters 2

Actually saw this one in the theatre. Loved it as well.

Ghostbusters (1984 Original)

I grew up with this film, and the cartoon. One of the best ever.
