Movie Ratings and Reviews

A Sound of Thunder

One of the worst time travel movies ever. All the logic that you're used to in time travel films gets thrown out the window. Instead of instantly changing to a different timeline after you get back from the past, everyone/thing is the same and then come "time waves" which cause changes. First the weather gets warmer, and then these dinosaur-gorilla hybrids spawn.
Not worth it.

Table 19(2017)

A rather boring movie. Watchable, but a lack of interesting characters or funny plot elements will leave you wanting something more.

Side Effects
Side Effects(2013)

Women are liars and whores. This movie is an omen of what is to come.

Central Intelligence

It was really funny and better than I expected actually. The plot was secondary to trying to get laughs but that was fine because they made a funny film and it's not meant to be taken too seriously.

Deadpool
Deadpool(2016)
½

A good movie but if you can't stand Ryan Reynolds you won't like it

Trainwreck
Trainwreck(2015)
½

A little longer than it should have been but still pretty funny. But overall not my favorite of the Apatow films.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2

Tobey Maguire is my spiderman. I know that's a pretty strange statement, since it's only been seven years since Spiderman 3. But the Andrew Garfield spiderman doesn't do it for me. He's too cocky and smug to be a little dweeb like he should be's.

The Benchwarmers

This really wasn't that bad of a movie. I mean Rob Schneider annoys me and David Spade is always a skeever... but somehow it was pretty funny.

Oculus
Oculus(2014)
½

If you are a fan of the horror genre you might not enjoy this like I did. A lot of the cheap low quality horror movies rely on random scares, things popping up unexpected. They're good for a quick jolt but quickly forgotten. Oculus is much more effective and has more staying power. The "jumpy" scenes are few and far between, and it is better because of this.

The story is interesting and well-acted. I've always enjoyed mirrors as a kid, and some have said I have a photographic memory so the idea of this thing that alters your vision and your perception really interested me.

This movie is good for a lot of people but maybe not the teen horror demographic.

Noah
Noah(2014)

I'm not Christian at all and it didn't offend me. It just wasn't interesting or engaging. Some of the early stuff about Cain's cities being built and destroyed was interesting but as the action got more intense it was less engaging.

Rio 2
Rio 2(2014)
½

A mediocre romp. Rio was a decent movie but Fox will always be behind Pixar and Dreamworks in both animation and story. Rio 2 is not a great sequel. The new characters do not add too much to the story.

Kids will enjoy it. It's full of bright colors. But at the same time, I don't think this G rated movie is any more (or less) appropriate for kids than Mr. Peabody & Sherman, Legos, or Frozen. It's a "G" rating meaning it's more for kids than anyone else, while "PG" means for everyone, usually.

This movie will be playing at every daycare this summer. See it if you must, but it's not that good.

Ride Along
Ride Along(2014)

This is one of those movies that is enjoyable even if the critics panned it. Kevin Hart does a good job and I enjoyed his nerdy video game friends playing a role in it too.

Saving Silverman

It wasn't really enjoyable. I thought it was average or a bit below even when I was 16 and loved pretty much any raunchy comedy. Amanda Peet's characters have always grated on me.

The only memorable thing in this movie was Steve Zahn and the Safety dance.

The LEGO Movie
½

While the story and music are not as magical and captivating as Frozen, How to Train your Dragon, Up, Wall-E, etc... the laughs come faster and hilariousli-er than anything ever has.

Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa
½

This was pretty funny. I've never seen any Jackass movies before so I might not be the best source of what a good Jackass movie would be... but it was funny without being too cruel to its characters. Obviously they have to be somewhat cruel with all the stunt and pranks going on but it was funny and didn't cross any lines too badly.

But at the same time, it wasn't amazing enough that I'm going to go out of my way to watch the older Jackass movies.

The Nut Job
The Nut Job(2014)

It's not quite the worst cartoon there ever was but it's pretty boring. The last 10-15 minutes are somewhat interesting in terms of action but none of the characters really seem to stand out from one another. Sure there are squirrels and rats and moles and dogs but no one stands out, there's no real character in a traditional sense of a word.

A poor man's Over the Hedge,
.

Gravity
Gravity(2013)

Good but it didn't blow me away as it did the critics. The visuals are amazing and set some new standards for use of 3D... but the story and acting were nothing special. Not terrible, but just kind of second to the visuals.

Carrie
Carrie(2013)
½

Not terrible... but I imagine it might frustrate some to know that this is the only version of Carrie I've ever seen.

It wasn't bad though not great either... I'll have to go find the original to compare.

½

A decent movie, but not up to Judd Apatow's normal standard. More drama than comedy.

Men in Black III
½

I was really surprised. I love time travel, period

21 Jump Street
½

Classic mirthmaking. Even Jonah Hill can't ruin this.

Dr Seuss' The Lorax
½

Amusing but not that great... the environmental message was watered down.

How Do You Know
½

I really wasn't feeling it here. The movie seemed to drag on and lacked the typical humor and heart you find in Paul Rudd films. I found the characters rather uninteresting and the plot very generic.

The Green Hornet

I like most anything Seth Rogen is in, but this wasn't really good. Entertaining but cheesy... fit for a Saturday morning with hyperactive kids eating Chocolate Frosted Sugar bombs.

Hugo
Hugo(2011)

I enjoyed it ,but it wasn't really amazing... too preachy.

The Breakfast Club

A classic movie that I should have watched a long time before I actually watched it.

Hot Tub Time Machine
½

Amusing enough, but it just didn't add up to a classic.

Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol
½

Tom Cruise runs weirdly. But it'
s good.

The Ides of March

Maybe it's the politics nerd in me, or my appreciation of Ryan Gosling's acting, but this was an amazing film.

Beauty and the Beast
½

Excellent film, though I remember the original being a bit different. Maybe I confused it with something else.

Chronicle
Chronicle(2012)
½

An excellent film. It really did well. I think the camera angles were a bit annoying at times, but it all worked out.

Moneyball
Moneyball(2011)
½

An amazing film. I had a few minor dorky qualms with it and would have liked to see a bit about Nick Swisher, but amazing.

Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa

Boring. I walked out. Just more of the same, silly kid crap.

Role Models
Role Models(2008)

I liked it. It had LARPing.

Over Her Dead Body
½

Underrated and a flop, but worth a rental.

Sicko
Sicko(2007)

Facts mixed with fiction make another Moore propaganda film. His heart is in the right place but his brain is missing the whole picture.

Premonition
Premonition(2007)
½

This isn't a 2004 movie, it came out in 2007. ANd it sucks.

Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story
½

The date I saw it with was a fat cunt but it was good.

Sideways
Sideways(2004)
½

A bit overrated by the indie crowd.

Hulk
Hulk(2003)

Not nearly as bad as everyone says it is.

Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle
½

Another generic stoner comedy. About hamburgers. This movie is not the great work of art everyone makes it out to be.

License to Wed

Another one of those poor Robin Williams comedies that isn't even funny to start with. Worse than RV, which is saying a lot. Don't see it.

The Perfect Man

Probably the worst movie I have ever seen. Hillary Duff plays a psychotic bitch.

A Christmas Story

A classic Christmas tale. Well, not all that classic, but we watched it in day care every year I think.

Meet the Robinsons

Very nice film. I was glad that a nerd was the hero. Usually nerds are mocked in movies, or if they are heroes, it's not because they are nerdy and smart, it's despite that fact, as they are superheroes otherwise. NERD PRIDE.

V for Vendetta
½

This movie is okay, but it plays to the fantasies of those that actually think swords can battle guns, which they really can't.

Last Holiday
Last Holiday(2006)

Queen Latifah plays her annoying self.

Fight Club
Fight Club(1999)

A little overrated by its insane fans, but good

Shrek
Shrek(2001)

The best animated film ever... really turned Disney crap on its head, sadly the next two did not

Knocked Up
Knocked Up(2007)

I only managed to see the second half so far after work. But I want to see it all! Very funny. Much like 40 YOV.
