It starts off really well and has flashes of brilliance but overall, I didn't care much for this, particularly when the story shifted to the shenanigans at the frat house.
"It's a carefully crafted slice of strange that is just weird enough to be a cult classic. "
Solid performances from the leads who all look the part but the highlight here is definitely the outstanding production design and soundtrack which really add to the overall enjoyment of the movie. Great banter between the leads but the action, of which there is much, feels completely lifeless on screen. The editing simply doesn't work.
I hope they manage to make enough money for a sequel. I just hope Guy Ritchie doesn't direct it. This needs the magic touch of a director with a better sense for directing action.
The individual performances are great as is the story but as a whole, Serena just doesn't work. Part of it is the editing which feels disjointed but it also feels passionless. No idea how Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper managed to go from great chemistry in Silver Linings Playbook to nothing here. Great performances from the supporting cast as well including the always great Sean Harris who needs to be in more stuff.
A forgettable blip in Jennifer Lawrence's CV.
"Though it treads familiar territory, Air is definitely worth a look as it features an interesting story, great style and compelling performances."
