Hitch
Hitch (2005)

½

The film starts promisingly enough, with an interesting premise, quick-fire witty dialogue, engaging performances and a good soundtrack. Sadly, the final third of the film loses the momentum and descends into Romcom 101.

Rise of the Planet of the Apes

The CGI mo-cap performance by Serkis adds great depth and humanity to the ape Caesar, who feels more real and better developed than most of the live action performers. The script is fine and the drama suitable, but the effects work on display is the real attraction here.

X-Men: First Class
5 years ago via Flixster

Ironically, by going back to the past, the future looks bright and new life is breathed into the mutant franchise. Michael Fassbender deserves special praise for his portrayal of the young Magneto and the use of a real life event as a backdrop for the story is inspired.

Transformers: Dark of the Moon

½

The effects are better than ever, and the human character's are utilised more effectively, but the film has many plot holes and feels every minute of it's 150+ minute running time.

Green Lantern
Green Lantern (2011)

For a character with such a rich history, interesting setup and such scope of superpowers, Green Lantern is very pedestrian. The film brightest days are the sadly all to few scenes on Oa, with the planet and the alien Lanterns are visual treats. The Earthbound segments of the plot have little to offer besides some fairly standard action scenes and admirable performances from Reynolds and Sarsgaard.
