The prototype modern action film. It doesn't have a single really great set piece, and there isn't all that much "action" but man is this movie fun. Also it's not a Christmas movie, it came out in the summer.
This is essentially art house action with more actual action and adventure than some action franchises have in their entirety. A truly special film and essential viewing for all cinephiles.
This film proves James Mangold is the Howard Hawks of his generation. He makes simple, manly films in any genre. Most underrated filmmaker of the last 3 decades.
