I'm shocked y'all. BUT I LOVE IT. I want to go see it again as soon as I can. I spent the first 15 minutes thinking it was awful, that they couldn't replace Harrison Ford, that I didn't care about any of these people. AND THEN I GOT SUCKED IN. Go see this movie! If you love Star Wars, this one is for you. They really did Han and Chewie some justice. I did not expect it to be this good. Best film noir space western ever.
I have no idea why others have given this film such a low score. There were definitely some moments in there where I was surprised by the choices the director made, but this movie definitely stands up against most of the rest of the franchise pretty well. There are definitely some twists and turns, and the visual spectacle is pretty tremendous. I would say this film has a lot of rewatch value.
This is a brave movie, I say that because I really doubt it's going to sell many toys. It's not invested in that 7-10 year old demographic. There are some really fun moments in this film, which make it worth seeing at least once. Characters were good, but I didn't find myself completely invested in any of them. I did not leave the theater feeling uplifted or with tears in my eyes. This was a film made of moments, but it lacked the heart to drive its messages home. It was so clunky in some parts I wasn't sure the movie was going to hold up.
Generally I base my ratings of movies based on how soon afterward I would watch the movie again, or whether I could finish the movie if it's really bad. This one I watched all the way through, and kind of enjoyed. But I'm not going to go see the movie again, and I won't preorder the blu-ray. I could see myself rewatching this movie a few years from now. So, three stars on a five star scale.
I'm a lifelong Star Wars fan, and I liked the diverse cast of main characters. Just wasn't a well punctuated film, didn't have enough emotional "force" to overpower me.
A pretty good action adventure story with a fantasy setting. Based on the plot of the first Warcraft game, if you've played it you have a good sense of where the story goes. What you really go see this movie for is the special effects. The magic in this movie is so much fun to watch. The settings are beautiful. The costumes are truly awesome, if I don't see some good Warcraft cosplays at Dragon Con this year I'll be very surprised. Acting and writing can be a little hammy, but again, this is a movie you see for the spectical more than the actual content. Overall, I give it 4/5 stars for keeping me entertained and feeling pretty good throughout.
