Jasen's Review of Skyfall
Action, intrigue, suspense Skyfall has it all but is short on fun. Skyfall is a great spy movie but not my favourite Bond movie. Director Sam Mendes knows how to make a movie look good and bring out the best in actors which he does here in James Bond #23. Daniel Craig is clearly the greatest Bond ever and the old and new supporting cast, Judi Dench, Javier Bardem, Naomie Harris and Bernice Marlohe are great in this story.
Skyfall is a tough one because I can't say anything bad about the actual movie, it has a great villain, tragedy and several nods to classic Bond flicks but lacks any memorable "Holy Crap!" moments like the crane jumping scene or the poker scene from Casino Royale and glamorous locations like Venice, Austria or The Bahamas.
Another personal issue I have, is that too much is revealed about James Bond's past, who he was a kid, which I didn't want to know. I love that international man of "mystery" quality about him, opening up about his childhood takes away from the mystique of the iconic character.
This is a slower, darker more melancholy "not as much fun" Bond but still Bond none the less.
