I am a period buff, especially if its European monarchy. The Duchess tells the life story of Georgiana, Duchess of Devonshire and her marriage to the duke, her kids, her affair, her fashion statement, etc. I enjoy the entire movie, especially Keira Knightley's performance as The Duchess but it seems that's the best thing about the movie. Her life story is interesting but not too memorable compares to Elizabeth or Marie Antoinette for instance. Though watching this movie makes me realize that affair, sex and power greed has always been there way before presidential government exist, which comes to a conclusion that humanity has been way fucked up even before we were born lol!
Scream series is more of a comedy slasher than a horror for me, so when Scream 4 turns out to be humorous, I accept it with open arms. The opening scene was epic in my opinion, it define the trademark of Craven and Williamson. I enjoyed the entire movie, some scenes were draggy and some actors are miss match here (Emma Roberts!), but at the end I'm glad they made the movie and can't wait for the next installment if they have any. The trio stars are back, but only Courteney Cox acts the best. From the young generation, I like Hayden Panettiere (I dig the boy'ish hair cut) and Erik Knudsen. Other actors were wasted and just for fun purposes.
Being the first movie of maestro horror, John Carpenter after almost a decade, one will raise their expectation bar very high! Same case here, I went in to the press screening and came out satisfied. Was it that good? to avoid spoiler I will just mention that's it's nothing different, but The Ward does levitate horror/slasher genre by a bar here. Loved Amber Heard, a sexy and talented actress. Other girls did good too, as one would expected. Give it a go.
After hiatus of good movies in Jakarta's theaters, at last there is something worth enough to watch (Source Code)! This thrilling, science fiction parallel universe action movie is a bit draggy but overall satisfying. I won't say it's the best movie or even worth the praise of a good science fiction movie (same case like last year's Surrogate), but its good to go film. Jake Gyllenhaal has definitely become easy in my eyes (not a fan still), and Michelle Monaghan is definitely annoying. Vera Fermiga take the trophy here, nothing stellar but memorable. I like the ending, feel good ending.
