Movie Ratings and Reviews

The 7th Voyage of Sinbad

lots of fun and a very young Jane Seymore. Also stars John Wayne's son who was a total hottie.

Charlie Wilson's War

excellent and educational

Becoming Jane

Very pretty to watch on the big screen. Touching romantic story, decent acting.

It's strange to rate this because I didn't see the whole thing. It started out stressful and miserable and it gave me a kind of "Leaving Las Vegas" feeling - and I didn't want to spend and hour and a half of my life feeling like that and worse as the movie progressed so I stopped it at around 15 minutes. Not really my kind of movie - I just rented it because Luke Wilson is in it, and I was kind of hoping it would be sort of silly watchable. Oh well.

Wild At Heart

This movie was my favorite from when it came out in '90, all through the 90's. Rented the dvd from Netflix and watched it this weekend. It held up great! I still love the whole Wizard of Oz theme throughout, and the combination of fucked up horror and comedy throughout. The characters are great and no one can tap pure emotion like David Lynch. The extras on the dvd are great too - from deleted scenes to interviews to promos. This movie/dvd ROCKS! I highly recommend this movie to anyone who has ever been (and remembers being) crazy in love and 20 years old, and who has all their lives felt left of center and a bit psychotic.

Inland Empire

This is my second favorite David Lynch movie - the first being Wild at Heart. This movie was like being in someone else's dream. It was psychologically compelling and mesmerizing. It was both disturbing and profound. I want to see it again and again and that's really something considering it's a 3 hour movie! Rock on David Lynch! The extras are like another whole movie and they are awesome!

Year of the Dog

Inconsistent characters and bad storytelling. I so wanted to love this movie - and I thought Molly Shannon's character would be a hero. Instead she is lame character - one whose whole life centers on her dog, yet when he dies it appears she is back at work and just a bit sad within a day or two of his death. Events lead her to embrace veganism and when this happens, she also becomes a "nut" and makes bad decisions concerning the care of children she is babysitting and even trying to "hunt and kill" a neighbor so that "he knows how it feels to be hunted". It's so sad that a movie that could have had such a positive message about the health and humane benefits of veganism and the hearts and minds that drive vegans, instead chose to equate veganism with mental breakdown.

Blades of Glory

This movie was cute but I had really high expectations after being told the movie was hysterical so I probably would have liked it more if I had expected less. A couple of laugh out loud scenes (and I favorite new line - "I called it my head.") but some of it sorta dragged. Overall I liked it.

Not my kinda movie.

Bad portrayal of women - they were either evil or insignificant - they were given much stronger roles in the graphic novel than in the movie. The story was full of cliches. Reviews are comparing it to the Princess Bride - but I say NO WAY!!! The humor in this movie was lame and the characters were not strong.

The Number 23

Such a disappointment!

Story got kinda silly but some of it was pretty creepy and the acting and characterization was great.

Hot Fuzz
Hot Fuzz(2007)

Little bit slow but very cute towards the end. Wasn't nearly as funny as I had expected it to be.

No Such Thing

Inconsistent characters and story. Aside from a couple of really nice scenes and symbolism, I don't understand what the point of the movie is.

The Host
The Host(2007)

The story and characters are awesome - the monster is a fierce and tragic creature since it is created by a guy ordered to intentionally dump lots of formaldehyde in a river and it didn't choose to be the way it is.

Really excellent!

Best Fantasy movie ever!!!!

Beautifully filmed, touching story.

Who Killed the Electric Car?

This is a MUST SEE! Everyone should know about this!

A thoroughly enjoyable movie. Lots of stars. Mandy Patinkin is great in this too. Made me want to read the book and learn more about that time period.

The Cave
The Cave(2005)

Right up there with The Fog as one of the WORST MOVIES EVER!!!! It was so bad it was funny!

This is a great great movie!

Strange Brew
Strange Brew(1983)

funny as hell when I was a teenager!

Slums of Beverly Hills

A really fun and enjoyable independent film

The Butterfly Effect

Hated the scenes with animal cruelty, other than that I thought the movie was good.

VERY cute movie!

Over the Edge

This does a good job of reminding me what it REALLY felt like to be a teenager in the 70's - unlilke That 70's Show, where some of the stuff is right but some of the stuff is made all nice for tv.

Dellamorte Dellamore (Cemetery Man) (Demons '95) (Of Death, of Love)

Very STRANGE movie - almost a surreal/horror/comedy.

Not scary at ALL!!!!

The Ice Storm

This movie is cool and will keep bouncing around in your head long after you're done watching it. A little on the intense side.

Stephen King's It

One of the BEST Stephen King movies! SO scary!!! The book is even better!

House of Wax
House of Wax(2005)

One of the worst movies ever!

The Fog
The Fog(2005)

One of the worst movies EVER!!!!!

Children of Men

The concept is better than the movie.
