The Karate Kid

When the movie is done, I have a positive, warm feeling inside, so overall I'm happy...
But if I take it apart, I do remember that it was made my a couple sections.
It was really slow, and, I think the best word is uncomfortable, for a long while to start the movie. I guess the first movie was similar, and it has a purpose. But the story really caught wind suddenly when the training starts.
Then there is another brief weird period after jaden is really advancing... I guess culminating in jackie's breakdown. So I guess both sections were really quality movie design.
China was a very peculiar scene, with no real explanation why there... but it really grew on me. The eastern beliefs didn't quite bother me, as they still found some universal elements (of course they did... they were trying to sell them to the rest of us, just like china). But it was a bit unbelievable at many junctures... in todays world, people just wouldn't let some of this stuff go on...

And though I thought I wouldn't, the old movie was in my thoughts a lot. I thought the way they managed to reinvent while staying close to the old story was really cool. And the way the mom was used.... classically like the old movie. Still, I thought some things were left out that made it not quite the level of the original.
It makes me sad, sick, of what Hollywood/our society do, what they're about, they'll use absolutely anything to make a buck anymore.

But, still, I definitely think well of it, all-in-all.

Too artsy for my blood. Reminds me a ton of another strange superhero movie. I think it even had Samuel L Jackson in it. Annoying tension throughout the movie, which then just obnoxiously gets resolved aimlessly feeling. I liked the subplot of lost love, but it didn't end up going anyway directly. I liked a few of the art things, like the falling snow constantly, but overall, the color and imagery just bordered on disturbing/grating.

Sorry, just not my style......
I DO believe in fairy tale style romance and in not letting the methods of society's corruption corrupt everything. The harsh message of this movie the whole time seemed to be that real "true love is a fairytale", and that instead true love is more about having fun together and a random, meandering occurrence.

Just because life isn't always all it's cracked up to be, doesn't mean relationships have to merge into that. They overcome that.

And that's kind of what the movie suggested at the end, and yet it's not. The ending really just seemed to be a random ending diametrically opposed to the theme of casting down the "happily ever after image".

If the point of the movie is found in the little girl... and the idea that you shouldn't just blindly rush into "true love" because it's someone, I'm all for it. But the movie made that a shadow image instead of a main idea by the way it played out.

I enjoyed the fact some of the "princess'" ways carried into the real world, and the acting was fair, but overall, just not a movie I can enjoy.

Inspector Gadget 2

I don't like to stereotype, but this is your typical factory kids movie. Not a ton of plot, and this one didn't catch me as that enjoyable. Not horrible, just rather average. I liked the plot between the two Gadgets, but the mix of unrealistic plot ideas (not believing Penny still, and kicking Gadget back off) and the humor just seemed a bit annoying to me. Overly slapstick without the followthrough good humor.
