I can't say enough about this incredible film, in terms of HK films this one is loaded with all-stars. Sammo delivers probably his most evil role ever scene and boy does he pull it off big time, major bad ass. Simon as usual lends his tremendous dramatic acting skills. And what more can i say about Donnie, after the release of SPL, it's easy to crown him as the top action star of the Asian film world. I would also recommend him in Flashpoint which is the prequel to SPL, and the more recent IpMan which took the box office title in HK 2008. If you're a fan of martial arts or cop films...please watch SPL.
Fun movie, plot was pretty good for a movie about cars. Surprisingly the story naturally brought back the main characters of the franchise, not too forced. Some kickass stunts, crazy cars, and few hot ladies, that's what F & F is all about. Why wasn't this a summer release!?!?!
Funny stuff, although some of the jokes might be a lil' too concentrated towards N.American born chinese. Great looking film considering the indie budget, good choice of songs for the soundtrack to boost the mood throughout. The main character is kinda like a Chris Tucker except with Chinese people jokes, hehe.
An incredible action hero film! I absolutely have nothing to knock when it comes to TMOZ. Great chemistry/acting from the entire cast even the 2 main baddies. Banderas displays his ability to deliver great comedic timing, not to mention his prowess when it comes to action scenes. Not to be outdone is Hopkins who helps ground the serious parts of the film. Being ZetaJones breakout role, nothing i need to say here.
Takes the familar origin kinda story but puts a nice spin on it, as the characters' relationships are weaved over a 20year span. Even tho it's over 2hrs, i wouldn't cut anything out. Action scenes are spectacular, especially the horse riding and sword fighting scenes. And this is before CGI was all over the place. Awesome music score by James Horner as he helps take the viewer back into the early days of California/Mexico/Spain, threw in a nice love song to round it out too. Easily one of the best action movies to come out of the 90's, and good wholesome fun for the whole family.
Just checked this out at the VancouverAsianFilmFest, didn't really know what to expect but i have to say i was entertained. Positives were: John Cho taking a serious role, Grace being more then just a pretty face, and the overall asian american feel of the movie, good change not having to read subtitles all day. Negatives: took me awhile to figure out who the heck John was trying to help/protect as it wasn't too clear, the opt for a happy ending when it coulda been something a lil' edgier, and the version we saw was a rather poor transfer...lots of artifacts/pixelation, camera had trouble w/lighting in a few scenes. Anyways, for it's budget, pretty well done.
