Liev Schrieber gives a heavyweight performance in this bittersweet and honest biopic about Chuck Wepner, the big dumb lug who was the real life inspiration for the film Rocky. That said, between his addictions, infidelities, and overall self-destructive nature, this man had a much more in common with The Raging Bull than Italian Stallion.
I laughed a little, but there is absolutely no reason for this film to exist. Also, for an 80 minute comedy, it is really exhausting to sit through. C
Masterful direction, white-knuckle writing, and gonzo performances across the board, Apostle is like Black Death meets the Wicker Man (not the Nick Cage one) and the results are gut-wrenchingly disturbing.
I know critics hated it, but I thought it worked. Of course, I'm claustrophobic as fuck.
Stop, Bruce, please! Why do you hurt those of us who love you so?
Forced, insincere, phony, joyless hipster schmaltz. I can't remember the last time I had so little fun.
Good, but a little heavy on the CGI and melodrama. That said, it is touchingly apparent that Crimson Peak was a labor of love for Guillermo del Toro.
Gore-geous B moviemaking! Puppet Master The Littlest Riech is purely for the fans. Unapologetically ugly and low-rent. Also, props to Thomas Lennon who was a surprisingly solid leading man.
I have no idea why audiences and critics alike were so hard on this one because conceptually and artistically it is pretty f**king awesome. Brilliantly acted, flawlessly directed, and admirably devoid of gratuitous violence.
Layer Cake is British badassedness and easily Matthew Vaughn's best film. Fun, refined, and as gorgeous as Sienna Miller.
Bound to test the patience of many, but I had an absolute blast with Army of One. It's fun, fast, unpredictable, sweet, and boasts a Nicolas Cage performance that is as brilliant as it is ridiculous. Not sure how much of this actually happened, but the end result of this "true story" is one of the most delightfully bonkers films I have ever seen.
