Jens' Review of Seeking a Friend for the End of the World
What would you do if you knew that there where only three weeks until a meteor hit earth and destroyed it? You would probably do the things you never did, or act the way you always wanted, eat and drink any thing you like, sleep with any one you like, etc. This is the case in Seeking a Friend for the End of the World where we follow the middle-aged insurance salesman, Dodge Petersen (Steve Carell) who's wife Linda (Nancy Carell) literally ran away from him after the end of the world was a fact. While all other people are partying, or kill each other. Dodge is devastated, and try as good as he can to keep on as usual, and even do some work. He's not in the mood for partying, but he reads through some old letter from an old flame. And he comes to that conclusion that he has to find her. Dodge also get an unexpected visit by his next door neighbor, Penny (Keira Knightly) who's also has boyfriend problems and decides to join Dodge on his cross-country trip to find Dodge's true love.
Seeking a Friend for the End of the World is an alright good mid-week comedy. There are some laugh out loud moments, and some pretty reasonable reactions to the end of the world. There's a lot of great comedy performances, specially by Steve Carell and Keira Knightly. But it sometimes get to romantic and there might be a cliches once in a while. But overall it's a funny with with a lot of joy, with some great laughs. Thumbs up.
