Movie Ratings and Reviews

Wild
Wild(2014)

What an amazing portrayal of the book. Love that Witherspoon can somehow pull of a woman in her late twenties.

The Maze Runner
½

Hard to rate the a movie that is built upon suspense and mystery when you know what is already coming and noting the differences between the book. Why can't Thomas communicate telepathically with Teresa? What will this mean for the sequels? Will the movies end up being better than the books? Too many differences (not necessarily for the better) right now to tell. An enjoyable cinematic experience nonetheless.

This Is Where I Leave You

Lacking in the emotional depth and complexity of the novel while still being an enjoyable watch.

The Art of Getting By

An attempt at a movie like Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist falls flat with no real drive or purpose. There is no epiphany moment, and there is no real character development. Falls short of everything it could have been.

A Good Old Fashioned Orgy
½

Nick Kroll makes everything he touches delightful.

They Came Together

Adult version of Wet Hot American Summer... but actually cleaner.

Chef
Chef(2014)

Happy, light hearted comedy. Great food shots, and great feel. Loved it. I want to see more from Jon Favreau (and the little boy was so great!!!)

22 Jump Street
½

I think I enjoyed it a bit more than the first. The extreme emphasis on humour, even being supremely meta-fictional, was quite enjoyable and made for lots of laughs.

Walk Of Shame

Whether it meant to or not, I felt it pointed out the many disadvantages of being a woman in our society and the particular hopeless of what shouldn't be such dire straits.

A Million Ways to Die in the West
½

It had a lot of laughs. I really enjoyed it, and I think this is the first time I ever considered Seth MacFarlene cute and very likeable.

Drinking Buddies

Pretty flat, but true to life comedy.

The Wolf of Wall Street
½

Terrible people, great acting

Divergent
Divergent(2014)
½

Better adaptation than I expected

Blue Jasmine
Blue Jasmine(2013)
½

A depressing decent into madness most elegantly played by Cate Blanchett - no one could have done it better

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire
½

Jennifer Lawrence, along with the rest of the cast, gives an outstanding performance. I feel it is exactly as I imagined while reading the novel. well done. I had forgotten how depressing it was and I look forward to seeing how they adapt the third book which is even more horrific

American Hustle

To quote my brother: "Some of the best acting you will ever see in your entire life."
- Common! Jennifer Lawrence is my love!

Saved!
Saved!(2004)

Really good depiction of the Christians from my ex-church

The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug
½

Great cinematics, but completely changed from the book. the movie loses almost all originality by changing each scene into basically a movie long chase

Frozen
Frozen(2013)

no origin story - how did she get her powers when no one else has them? some parts were good but it felt like a thrown together story. didn't really like it

Girl Most Likely
½

I love Kristen Wiig. Not a great movie, but definitely cute and an enjoyable watch

Thor: The Dark World

As always, a fun and exciting watch.

The Winning Season
½

A little cheesy and sappy, but Rockwell delivers an amazing performance as usual.

Humpday
Humpday(2009)
½

Love the dialogue, love that the conversations seem raw and real, love the individual, off-beat characters.

The Brothers Solomon

weird as fuck...but will arnett ...makes anything funny

Tiny Furniture
½

relateable to the recently graduated and unemployed depressed young adult

I Give It a Year
½

Absolutely, retardedly hilariously stupid and wonderful.

The Way Way Back

A tear-jerker for moms, a heartwarming flick, a reality based situation - a must see.

Flakes
Flakes(2007)
½

An offbeat story that doesn't really lead anywhere - not to mention hardly climactic. While it contains a very few clever observations about niche markets and capitalism, there is no "oomph" in this movie that makes you care about the characters...or even how the movie ends.

Oblivion
Oblivion(2013)
½

It reminded me of an "action" version of Sam Rockwell's "Moon." Other than that it felt like a rip-off, it was interesting to watch, explores an interesting concept, and makes you think a bit more than your average action flick

Star Trek Into Darkness

Not a Star Trek fan originally, but this movie was amazing!

Coffee Town
Coffee Town(2013)

Weird, hilarious and enjoyable

Pacific Rim
Pacific Rim(2013)
½

Visually stunning. If I was more into Monster-type movies, I would have given it the full five stars

Man of Steel
Man of Steel(2013)

Despite negative reviews, I loved this movie. I thought the changes made were perfect for today's political and social climate while I believed it maintained its original heroic charm. While others disliked the realism, I found it simply added more dimension to the movie and Superman's character

The Heat
The Heat(2013)

Funniest movie since Bridesmaids. Loved Bullock and McCarthy duo - would see again!

Friends With Money
½

A little bit depressing in its realism but good nonetheless.

Blackfish
Blackfish(2013)
½

Very eye opening. Presented logically with figures and facts. While it was emotional, that was only because of the true content, not because it was trying to change your mind by appealing only to the emotional side. I had no idea how many trainers had been killed by captive whales before this movie

Ira and Abby
Ira and Abby(2006)

Crazy, if not cute, movie

Jack Reacher
Jack Reacher(2012)
½

Really enjoyable action flick with Tom Cruise. Love the character (although I heard he's taller in the novel)

Admission
Admission(2013)
½

Really sweet, heartwarming movie. Tina Fey is always a brilliant charm, and Paul Rudd was his adorable best.

Oz the Great and Powerful

Oz...the REALLY SUCKY. Okay seriously... this movie lacked plot, ingenuity, originality and even the graphics aren't something to look forward to!

The characters' moods swing erratically between happy! excited! sad! scared! oh no!, there is not one good tune to hum along to (I think there was only one, period); it lacks the cute innocence of the original as well as any intensity it had the potential to exhibit.

Nothing like a witch scorned - apparently. This illustrated perfectly the good girl/bad girl dichotomy, and neither was the real winner. Simply atrocious. I cannot FATHOM how anyone gave it over a 50 - really people? Were you THAT high?

God Bless America
½

For critics who criticize this movie for lacking "the thrill of the chase" or "there's not enough plot to hang on that mean people suck" obviously miss the point of the movie completely or are part of the problem. The point is people suck OUTSIDE of the movie. It draws from real life for the plot - and you don't have to look far to find it. This movie takes out the vengeance that we all imagine but are too reformed to take. Maybe not a great time for a movie in the midst of so many real life shootings in America, but at least it's not glorifying that violence like the news stations do.

I really enjoyed this movie and it was very well done.

Identity Thief
½

Very entertaining, better than expected

We Need to Talk About Kevin

Disturbing - but not as nearly as much as I thought. I love the way the story was told. Very effective and captivating

That's What She Said
½

Great movie about women, sex, and relationships. Hey, we get to be vulgar too once in a while. What a RELIEF to have a movie absent of men for once. (in rebuttal specifically to Matt Singer's comment)

Cemetery Junction
½

More drama than comedy, but I liked the themes and the ending. Also Tom Hughes is f**king sexy in this

Why Stop Now?
½

Morgan and Whitlock were a hilarious duo.

Movie 43
Movie 43(2013)
½

It was like they were testing to see just what they could get away with. And they got away with it.

Young Adult
Young Adult(2011)

I didn't believe ending, but it was a decent movie.

So Dear to My Heart
½

Great childhood, classic family film

Watership Down
½

It was pretty brutal near the end. But did fair justice to the book - which was amazing

Line Of Sight

Amazing talent went into this movie. Should be watched either for the story, the danger, or the camera work

The Little Prince

Book good, but this movie was...weird. The water scene with a little boy and a grown man playing isn't as endearing as it's meant to be.

Spy Kids 3-D - Game Over
½

It gets an extra half star for being the first 3D movie I ever watched.

Spirit - Stallion of the Cimarron
½

only movie that brings a tear to my eye

Muppet Treasure Island
½

Best treasure Island I've ever seen

The Room
The Room(2003)

Literally the worst movie I have ever seen...next to the Twilight series.

Lord of the Flies
½

While it lacks special effects, it is an excellent retelling of the novel's story.

Lord of the Flies

Not as good as the original

James and the Giant Peach

The tone of this movie strays too far from the book and just gets creepy

Small Soldiers

Nothing where toys come to life in a creepy way is ever okay.

Feast of Love

Seemingly good movie then BAM sad ending. You were warned.

Olive, the Other Reindeer
½

I was offended by this movie.

Independence Day
½

One of the only alien movies worth watching (for people who don't enjoy alien movies)

All Dogs Go To Heaven

Not appropriate for young children. Scarred for life.

Tarzan
Tarzan(1999)

Well, it was better than George of the Jungle

Pocahontas
Pocahontas(1995)
½

I love the songs in this classic racist Disney flick.

Radio
Radio(2003)

never go full retard.

Death at a Funeral
½

This movie is wonderfully hilarious - its remake is not.

30 Minutes or Less
½

stupid and funny - just what you'd expect

Smiley Face
Smiley Face(2007)
½

I don't understand how this got a higher review than house bunny - other than expectations are lower for a stoner flick

The Outsiders

I thought it couldn't get any worse than the book.

Scooby-Doo and the Witch's Ghost
½

This rating is because of the stellar song by "The Hex Girls" in the movie... lol

The Secret Garden

Not only is it an accurate representation of the novel, it is beautiful, touching, and wonderful.

Envy
Envy(2004)

Every time I watch a Febreze commercial I think of this movie.

Home Alone: The Holiday Heist

Has potential at the beginning...and quickly loses it. Poor acting and even more unrealistic scenarios than the first.

Butter
Butter(2012)

Watching Jennifer Garner play a bitter bitch is the best, especially when she curses.

The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie

This movie ruined the book for me.

Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory

I'm probably one of the few who prefers the remake to the original.

Jennifer's Body

Not original, not scary. The half a star is because watching Megan Fox projectile vomit is hilarious.

28 Days Later

One of the only "scary" movies I can stomach

Fantastic Mr. Fox
½

Dahl and Anderson are a perfect combination in a warm-hearted family comedy
