i like comedies and i discovered melissa mccarthy through this. she was incredible on snl a few weeks ago. really talented comedian that i hope blows up like jane lynch did a few years ago.
this movie was obviously unrealistic and played for laughs but that's fine by me as long as its funny. again, the male characters were pretty flat but that's also the main draw of this movie.
i've got that wilson phillips song in my head all the time because of this movie. man time has not been kind to chynna phillips. i think carnie is looking better than she does.
definitely one of the best movies i've seen this year, but that's not saying much. it hit all the things i love about movies. an homage to movies like et, alien, close encounters but not in a snarky edgy quentin tarantinoesque way but just straight forward love of the genre. loved the geeky talk about making movies, i'm sure both abrams and spielberg were like this as kids. just an enjoyable experience all the way through.
entertainingish documentary on the financial crisis. this is kind of one of the reasons i want to learn more about the topic. it just seemed so one-sided, there's got to me more going on. i think we are in a screwed up situation but i'm not sure i got the true account of what were the key factors in bringing it to this point. i hate when people say things like "there were multiple warnings beforehand". yeah well, kooks are always going to say the world is going to end so the day it does you just happened to be lucky to have been the most recent person to forecast its doom. i dunno, again, i just felt like, nice movie but i don't feel like i learned much from it.
i've been a conan fan for years so i loved this inside look into what kind of guy he is. nothing shocked me about his behind the scenes persona. i guess i can understand when people say he's kinda an a-hole but like his way of relating to people is exactly the way i relate to people--annoying them to death. i love the scene where he keeps repeating the same joke over and over probably hours. i do that all the time.
to be honest, i'm a colbert man now. i still watch both but if i had to choose, i'd go colbert. he's just so much more innovative than conan although i will always have a special place for conan. i fear that cuz his ratings aren't that great he wont last that long on tbs. idon't know what he'll do after that.
hard to rate a movie like this. visually stunning. plotwise predictable. messagewise absolutely atrocious. i was actually seething from the hidden agendas in this movie: don't trust your mother, fall for the bad boy, your hotness and naivete will win him over, a girl's worth is based on her singing ability and falling in love with the right guy, etc., etc. i'm just a bitter 35 year old single guy so this obviously isn't a movie for me. ugh, i hated the evil witch and the way she manipulated rapunzel. we know its evil, but isn't that basically how every single beauty product is sold? "don't be foolish, of course you aren't beautiful enough." argh, just thinking about this movie is getting me enraged.
